Role of the European Union in protection of the marine environment
Andreska, Dominik ; Žákovská, Karolina (advisor) ; Franková, Martina (referee)
The presented thesis focuses on marine environmental law. Aside from providing an overview of marine environmental law on both intenational and European Union (EU) level, the thesis aims to show through an analysis and comparison, what the European Union takes on in the marine environment protection. The thesis approaches the EU in two different aspects, first as an supranational entity and second as an international organisation. The thesis in detail compates the international and EU law on prevention of vessel source pollution or pollution from land-based sources. It also includes an analysis of the new Framework directives on marine straegy and maritime spatial planning. The thesis arrives at conclusion that the duality of the EU being a supranational organisation on the one hand and an international organisation on the other enables the EU to achieve more stringend protection of maritime environment of European seas and also gives the EU better negotiating position as an actor on the international level.
Social utopias - a comparation
Zukal, Jan ; Franěk, Jakub (advisor) ; Sekerák, Marián (referee)
Utopia, a perfect place, a place that doesn't exist. A place that is separated from the outside world and fully self-sufficient. Conception of an ideal state system dealt with dozens of philosophers and political thinkers. In ancient times it was Plato in his writings Constitution and laws. In early Christianity religious community that sought to live in the ideal commonwealth according to God's word. In the Renaissance, it was Thomas More, Utopia which gave its name to the whole genre, or Tomasso Campanella and the Sun. These authors became pioneers of utopian socialism. Utopia is at the same time also dealt with Francis Bacon, who rather than socially conceived scientifically. They were followed by modern utopian socialists, such as Charles Fourier, and Robert Owen. The last part of the development consists of so-called utopia dystopia, or anti-utopia. The best known dystrophic parts are Matrix, or 1984 by George Orwell.

Flídrová, Eliška ; Honusková, Věra (advisor) ; Scheu, Harald Christian (referee)
in English - The application of the non-refoulement principle at sea The aim of my thesis is to analyse how one of very important principles of the international law- the non-refoulement principle is applied at sea and what questions should the states bound by this principle ask in order to apply it properly. The thesis itself is composed of three main chapters. Chapter One deals with the non-refoulement in general and defines its content and how this principle is enshrined in international and regional documents. I also examine what are the aspects of the prohibition of refoulement in customary law and whether can it be at present considered as Customary International Law or not. In Chapter Two the excursion into Maritime Law occurs and also indispensable definition of individual maritime zones of Internal Waters, Territorial Waters, Contiguous Zone and High Seas is provided. In this chapter I also focus on the possible application of the non- refoulement outside the state's territory, i.e. its extraterritorial impact. Last but not least in regard to the operations held at sea it is necessary to define their character and different rights and duties arising from them. Subchapters deal with the "search and rescue" and also with the maritime interdiction programs issues whereas the Tampa case and...
Geographical division of the World Ocean
Kohoutková, Lucie ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Šobr, Miroslav (referee)
Geographical Division of the World Ocean Abstract Delimitation of ocean boundaries has a big importance for coastal as well as continental countries due to economical, political and other concerns. Division of the World Ocean varied a lot in the past and significant regional differences of its concept were formed. Not only the location of boundaries but even the number of identified subdivisions of the ocean varied. Some oceanographic schools which don't recpect international agreements and delimitate their own ocean boundaries still exist. Thanks to that there are still many problematic areas where neighbouring countries arque about a part of the ocean. The prefence for boundaries delimitation is very important and often also controversial. Tree main oceans - Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean - are traditionally delimitate separetly for what many reasons exist. Many authorities still doubt about the independence of the Southern Ocean. The publication of 4th edition Limits of Oceans and Seas where the Southern Ocean should be officially accepted will be very significant. Keywords: Division of the World Ocean, ocean boundaries delimitation, the Southern Ocean
