Motyčková, Kateřina ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Malý, Radek (referee)
This thesis focuses on four prose works of contemporary Czech literature. These are the novel Možnosti milostného románu (Ways of Writing about Love) and the short story collection Hra pro čtyři ruce (The Game for Four Hands) by the writer Jan Němec, the novel Smrtholka (Deathmaiden) by the writer Lucie Faulerová and the novella Přípravy na všechno (Preparations for Everything) by the poet publishing under the pseudonym Elsa Aids. The thesis focuses in particular on how the themes of alienation and the transformation of intimacy are manifested in the selected works. The thesis first defines these concepts theoretically. Then focuses on contemporary Czech literature and the ways in which it relates to the present and its problems. It will then also theoretically define the concepts of literary criticism and interpretation. In the practical part, the interpretation of individual literary works will be carried out. It will also include an analysis of critical responses that have appeared in the Czech media, most of which are culturally or literary oriented. The aim of the thesis will be to map how the selected works reflect feelings of alienation and modern transformations of intimacy and how these themes are addressed by literary critics and reviewers. Czech Literary criticism on internet
Kučera, Štěpán ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
This rigorous thesis surveys Czech literary criticism on internet and its relationship towards printed literary criticism, or generally, relationship between new and traditional media. I define what "Czech literary criticism on the internet" can mean, and describe its situation in 2009 and 2012. I created an imaginary central line going from the pole of traditional media to the pole of new media and aligned the groups of websites on this scale. I found important projects there that exist in the periphery of Czech literary life (as reflected by the traditional media). Then I asked members of the web projects to fill in a short questionnaire focused on literary criticism on internet and its relationship to the culture of traditional media. Also, I posed the same questions to Czech book publishers as representatives of the traditional culture. In comparison of 2009 and 2012 I found out that the websites connected to the traditional printed culture tend to parish, or on the contrary, transform into professional projects (usually with state financial support). The closer to the pole of new media, the more viable the websites tend to be. I also notices increasing role of social networks, such as Facebook. For some websites these networks have become a welcome platform to address wider audience, while for others...

The Eternal Boyhood of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic
Kolařík, Karel ; Vojtěch, Daniel (advisor) ; Lishaugen, Roar (referee) ; Merhaut, Luboš (referee)
The thesis attempts to describe the life and work of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic through an analysis of his lifestyle, i.e. the way in which he organized, embellished and individualized his life. Karásek sought to shape his existence as an artwork, in accordance with the inspirational concepts of the contemporary and antecedent thinkers and artists (e.g. Oscar Wilde, Walter Pater and Maurice Maeterlinck). He accented its integrity and orientation towards beauty. In accord with his aesthetic vision (and his literary work) Karásek conditioned beauty with sadness and pain and attempted to emphasize melancholic beauty, unity in disunion. For that purpose he would accentuate particularly the disintegrative, critical elements, evoking the impression of unsuccessful, self-destructive endeavor to reach life's high ideal. This corresponded with his tragic concept of the artist immolating himself for his Art. I approach Karásek's lifestyle through the use of the terms youth and (eternal) boyhood, which Karásek himself employed as symbols of mournfully beautiful existence in his literary work. I define a youth - in accordance with the romantic and symbolist interpretation - as a person at odds with reality (contemporary truths, customs and rules), a solitary, unique being, trying to construct a new world - only...

This bachelor's thesis describes the development of literary criticism conception and it's earlier typology. The thesis deals with the difference between literary criticism and reviews - how these dissimilarities appear in theory and in practice. The applicable typology for present Czech literary criticism has been suggested in this thesis. The typology mentioned divides literary criticism into two main types: text-oriented criticism and context-oriented criticism. It discusses the development of value conception and what is a value even nowadays. For contemporary literary critics it is originality, credibility of the work and composition. It provides information on how criticism is presented by individual Czech periodicals including Host, A2, Revolver Revue, Tvar, Souvislosti and Literární noviny.
