The comparative case study analyzes the specific involvement of the international community in the post-war reconstruction of Rwanda and Burundi with emphasis on two main areas, political/constitutional, and socio-economic. Based on the findings of the analysis, possible measures are suggested to make development cooperation in post-conflict reconstruction more effective, especially in the case of Burundi. The results of the analysis show that the international community should in case of these two countries, among other things, mostly focus on securing political stability, supporting civil society, or building infrastructure, and thus help to achieve the goals of post-conflict reconstruction.

Impacts of China's development aid and investment in Africa, focusing on Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2000-2015
Leová, Leona ; Procházka, Pavel (advisor) ; Zeman, Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with development aid in general, presents its definition and analyzes in particular the development of various attitudes that were previously discussed. This theoretical background is an essential part of finding more effective approaches, as it can generally be said that the Western assistance to date has failed to do so. The work is thus further dealt with by other development cooperation alternatives that could be capable of 'the poorest' billion out of poverty. The second part then deals exclusively with the role of China in Africa, first attempts to map out the activities it deals with, and acquaintances with forms of cooperation that are different from those with other countries in the past. It represents the type of cooperation on which the most valuable investments of this bilateral aid are built, which are projects for the construction of transport and energy infrastructures in exchange for access to African natural resources, especially oil. In addition, the work focuses on the characteristics of the current socio-economic situation of Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo and evaluates the development of the most important economic and social indicators such as GDP and HDI. It finds that these variables generally record growth and improvement, which is not so significant in the social sphere, indicators that are more tangible about the quality of life of the people in these countries. In general, the work comes to the conclusion that China's presence in Africa is largely positive, as China, as a country with experience of transformation from a backward country into the world's second largest economy, has chosen a different approach to cooperation with the Third World, Exploiting their comparative advantage, which is the presence of mineral wealth and cheap labor, in exchange for what they are acutely needed - the development of transport and energy infrastructure.
Poverty in selected developing countries 1996 - 2016 - are the problems being solved?
Peterka, Šimon ; Vostrovská, Zdenka (advisor) ; Bartůsková, Lucia (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the topic of poverty in developing countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. The goal of the thesis is to identify the factors of poverty in this region and suggest possible solutions to the problem. The main causes of deprivation in the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa are deemed to be the governance system, war conflicts, dependence on natural resources and an insufficiently diversified economy. All these factors are applied to the example of Nigeria, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gabon. In order to make aid from more advanced countries more effective, it is proposed to participate more in the resolution of conflicts as a mediator in the negotiation, rather than trying to reform the developing countries politically.

Kofránková, Alžběta ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
Master thesis called Factors Determining the Allocation of Czech NGOs' Development Assistance Projects aims to find out what are the factors that determine the allocation of development assistance projects funded from private sources. The study is based on the humanitarian and development discourses that both have their origins in the constructivist theory. The study uses data from the year of 2013 provided by Czech NGOs that work in total of 34 countries. In order to achieve its aim, the master thesis uses a method of regression analysis. The first chapter provides a broader overview of the theory of development and presents the constructivist theory with both discourses. The second chapter explains the anchoring of Czech NGOs engaged in the field of the development assistance. In the third chapter, dependent and independent variables are introduced alongside with their descriptive characteristics. The fourth chapter provides tests and the empirical analysis of the models. The estimated results of both models confirm the humanitarian hypothesis, which states that the allocation of resources for development assistance projects by NGOs is greater in countries with a higher poverty level. The development hypothesis is, however, disproved and it can be concluded that the level of democracy and...

This thesis analyses Czech foreign policy based on these three features and compares it to selected Balkan countries. All of the Balkan countries used for this comparison are introduced with respect to relevant factors for this analysis. The same applies to foreign policy relations of the Czech Republic and Kosovo. Given this comparative analysis, it enables us to evaluate the results of Czech diplomatic efforts towards Kosovo.
