Information spread in online communities: Example of the Czech foodie community
Němečková, Hana ; Souček, Jiří (advisor) ; Diviák, Tomáš (referee)
This master's diploma thesis focuses on the dissemination of information in the context of the Czech community of so-called foodies (people who like good food and are constantly looking for new experiences in this field). The theoretical part outlines the development of online communities environments, from web forums to social media. It also examines the possibility of applying Katz and Lazarsfeld's model of the two-step flow of communication in the online environment. We also explain the features of online food communication and present widespread social media foodie platforms, including the Czech app Scuk. The research part of the thesis uses the social network analysis method to identify opinion leaders of this online community in the environment of Twitter, Instagram and Scuk and examines how the information spread and the form of this community changes with regards to the particular online environment in question. The thesis also includes qualitative research on the impact of the online information spread on the offline environment - more specifically, on sales, visit rate and reputation of selected Prague restaurants.
Webs of crime: Corruption in the perspective of social network analysis
Diviák, Tomáš ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
In this thesis, I attempt to apply the network perspective to the study of corruption. First, I deal with current state of theory and research on corruption, which I find to be ignoring relations and interactions among offenders themselves. Then I review literature in the field of covert and criminal networks. The theoretical part of this thesis ends with brief descriptions of two major cases of political corruption in the Czech Republic - so called Nagy case and Rath case. In the methodological part, I introduce basic concepts of social network analysis as well as methods for positional analysis, especially the blockmodelling. In my research, I deal with exploratory analysis of both the aforementioned networks. Using proxy data, I analyse cohesion, centralization, centrality measures and cliques in these networks. Then I use conventional blockmodeling to search for roles and positions within these networks. My results suggest that both networks are dense and centralized with overlapping cliques contrary to other covert networks possibly accounting for their eventual disruption and failure. Positional analysis using varius methods such as CONCOR or different types of cluster analysis reveals a structure resembling the core-periphery model, which is supported by measuring coreness and finding a good...

This thesis has an aim to bring theoretical and empirical knowledge, which can be used to improve quality of multi-agent based modelling of public opinion. In the theoretical part is introduced the analytical sociology as methodological basis and the theory of the public opinion process as substantive basis. Based on these theories is defined the aim of the empirical work: explore the stability of communication structures leading to emergence of mutual awareness of actors in the public debate. For the research are used news comments and its rating by other users from the news server iDNES.cz. The data are analyzed using social network analysis. It is revealed that a number of characteristics is applicable to multi-agent model. At the same time work brings interesting findings about the internet discussion and public communication. The main empirical finding is that despite large turn-over of discussing individuals, communication structures remain stable over time.

Skála, Vít ; Potůček, Martin (advisor) ; Majerová, Věra (referee) ; Kupčák, Václav (referee)
The issue of rural areas in the Czech Republic concerns about 5,800 municipalities, what is 93 % of all municipalities in the CR. These municipalities cover more than three-quarters of the CR territory where live over 3 million inhabitants, more than one third of the total population of the CR. Although there is consensus that the countryside faces a lot of problems which affect the lives of many people on a large territory, the adequate attention to this topic is still not given by official authorities. This confirms the facts that the CR has not adopted a clear definition of rural areas yet and the rural policy is not a priority of programs of political parties. But the urgency of solving problems in recent years stepped up. Quantity of scientific teams that focus on countryside problems increased. They are defined different typologies of rural areas, are seeking methods for dissolve disparities among different areas, there are efforts to measure the development potential of municipalities. This work is in accordance with these initiatives and by mixed research methods defines Development Potential Index (DPI). The DPI consists from 101 individual indicators. Verification of created index was done on data of 18 small villages located in three different regions of the Czech Republic, for which...

The thesis' structure corresponds to the methods used for metting the aims set and compo-ses of seven parts. The first part summarizes motives for social media analysis, deals with the approach to the topic in the contemporary scientific papers and discusses comercial tools that could be used for such analysis. The second part describes gathering of data with a crawler, setting the connection and getting the access rights to the data sources. The structure of downloaded documents and appropriate choice of data sources is also described in this part. The third part adresses the tools used for the analysis, namely Elas-ticsearch and Kibana. The fourth part defines possible questions that may be asked in the context of Czech sports image on Facebook. The fifth part identifies the metrics necessary for the questions assesment and describes corresponding data selection. The sixth part completes the analysis itself and summarizes its findnings. The seventh part describes Ki-bana's dashboard use for effective summarizing of selected metrics. The main bachelors' thesis contribution lies in the illustration of social media analysis pos-sibilities on the example of Czech sportsmen and Czech sports in general on Facebook. A crawler has been used to gather the data for the purpose of the analysis. The other em-ployed tools included Elasticsearch and Kibana, which have enabled the data selection and visualisation. The analytical approach consisted of four parts; definition of analytical que-stions, definition of methods and metrics to find answers to these questions, followed by the analysis itself and the summary of results. The following points belong to the analysis' findnings: identification of sportsman with the highest marketing potential, comparison of analysed sports according to the perceived image by fans and desgination of the pages with most interacting followers.
