Life of Ukrainians (Including other selected nationalities) their integration in the South Region
LISOVOL, Oksana
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to describe the lives of Ukrainians, Russians and Kazakhs in the territory of the Czech Republic and their integration in the linguistic, economic, social and cultural spheres. Specifically, the thesis is focused on foreigners who live in the Czech Republic in the South Bohemian Region. I have chosen a target group of foreigners because I am a foreigner as well and this inspired me to describe the lives of my compatriots and other selected nationalities in the Czech Republic in the South Bohemian Region. At the same time, it was enriching for me to look into this issue with a different point of view and to remember my own experience. I have obtained the information from the informants via a qualitative research strategy along with a combination of a narrative interview and a structured interview. Target questions were focused on the foreigners' integration process in different fields into the Czech society from their subjective point of view and on their personal reasons for migration to the Czech Republic. Other questions were focused on how Ukrainians, Russians and Kazakhs perceive their lives in the territory of the Czech Republic. For the data collection, I have used in my thesis a technique of snowball sampling. Altogether, 10 foreigners residing legally in the South Bohemian Region participated in the survey. It was possible to stop the research at the number of 10 participants, as the respondents' answers were repeated in the interviews. To process the results, I have used a grounded theory along with a coding method. It is obvious from the research results that every foreigner is going through the integration process, although each informant had different reasons for migration and the results of integration both positive and negative. It is clear the foreigners are not native speakers in the given language area, therefore they often face up to prejudices or discrimination, however in the field of culture, there are new opportunities to learn the Czech culture, customs and traditions. In the sphere of economics, the foreigners use different means or possibilities to obtain a job and their self-sufficiency. In the social field, they have the opportunity to meet and communicate with the local population, as well as with their countrymen. It was interesting to see how the process of integration is going on by each informant, although they all have a lot in common and have to overcome similar obstacles.

Vágnerová, Vendula ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
This thesis deals with the Ukrainian minority associations in Prague from 2001 to 2013. The Ukrainian minority in our country has a long tradition, although the nature of its activity is influenced by different waves of migration and socio-political changes since the early 20th century to the present. After a long period of repression, national minorities activity was restored in 1990, when official registration of minority civic associations was granted. The first of these were established by the Ukrainians from the earlier migration waves or by their descendants, while the new associations registered after 2001 were usually created in connection with the significant increase of Ukrainian migrants, coming to the Czech Republic since the 90s, and caused by the diversification of the Ukrainian minority. The thesis therefore presents a report on the Ukrainian organizations in Prague in the period from 2001 until 2013, reflecting their development, differences, and introducing the specific activities as a means to achieving the goals of associations and needs of their members. At the same time, this work highlights several elements that associate the social activity of the Ukrainian minority. At the same time, the purpose of the introduction of the Ukrainian diaspora in Prague is to offer a better...

Based on the current level of knowledge it seeks to grasp the phenomenon of the integration of those children in all its complexity, and therefore focuses on the different dimensions of integration - structural, social and cultural including language. In examining all the mentioned integration dimensions in tracks how the immigrant children handle the cultural heritage of their country of origin, but also how the adopt Czech culture in its broader sense. Foreign Students of Czech Language in the Czech republic (A contribution to the problematics of Migration and Students-Migrants in the Czech Context)
Franc, Aleš ; Pargač, Jan (advisor) ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
in English The dissertation thesis deals with foreign students in the Czech republic, specifically immigrant students coming from all over the world - from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and then from China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. The basic objective of this work is not a real attempt to display the everyday reality of certain groups of migrant-students of Czech language in the Czech Republic in such a way that it only focuses on the problems and barriers they encounter in their studies in the Czech language. It also deals with their adaptation and integration into mainstream Czech society. At the same time, however, we realize that this work is only a partial contribution to the knowledge of migrant-students' life in the Czech environment between 1998 and 2011. This work is based on relevant literature and the research is based on interviews with students and teaching observations. The choice of qualitative methods was intentional to serve our matter the best, since there has been a lack of research in this particular area in recent times. This focus on qualitative techniques is also dependent on the characteristics of the sample group, especially in the linguistic and sociocultural realm. The research was carried out at the Institute of Language and Training of the Charles University in Prague...
Integration of the Ukrainians in the České Budějovice
ŠILLEROVÁ, Veronika
The diploma thesis is named Integration of Ukrainians in České Budějovice. The first chapter explains the basic concepts related to the topic of integration of foreigners, such as migration, immigrant or refugee. The second section refers to the concept of integration, which is defined in detail. The third chapter describes the integration policy in the Czech Republic. The fourth chapter is dedicated to legislation and two basic laws governing this issue. The fifth chapter concerns foreigners in the Czech Republic in terms of numbers and statistics and sixth chapter includes basic characteristic of Ukrainian immigrants in the country. The last chapter is devoted to organizations aimed at helping foreigners in the České Budějovice. The aim is to find out what the positives and negatives are in the integration of Ukrainians in the České Budějovice. They were provided the following two research questions: 1. What are the positives and negatives in the integration of Ukrainians living in the České Budějovice? 2. Do Ukrainians attend some organization focused on helping foreigners in the České Budějovice? Results related to the first research question revealed some positives and negatives that occur in the integration of Ukrainians in the České Budějovice. The main negatives were revealed in language skills - Problems with the pronunciation of certain letters (ř), incomprehensibility of laws and more technical texts, writing diacritics over letters or filling out forms. The interviews revealed some positives. For example, what can helps informants or could help the negatives be reduced or removed. They do not recommend settling down only with Ukrainians, but should find Czech friends and communicate with them and participate in the work process. It also helps to watch Czech TV and listen to radio. In the field of economic and social self-sufficiency, I focused on two areas - Employment and housing. In the field of employment there exist several serious problems. For the vast majority of informants their job does not correspond to the education acquired in the Ukraine. It is connected with young immigrants with university degree, who try to get a job. They met with discrimination at the interview because of their origin. The positive thing is the less-educated immigrants do not find it difficult to get a job and that all the informants are also satisfied with the salary. Several negatives were also shown in the housing sector, but informants were not talking about their own experiences, but the experiences of their friends. These are mainly problems with landlords who refuse to issue a certificate of accommodation for immigrants from the Ukraine. Informants are satisfied with their housing, and they say that is not a problem for them to get adequate housing, which are clear positives. According to informants in the field of society and culture is a major downside of poor orientation of immigrants in the law, in rights and duties and employee access at offices. Culture is, according to them, similar, but they see major differences on important matters such as the family and family life, how they lead children to education and they do not like celebrating festivals at a different time. Another part of research were relations between the majority and the minority. Negatives also occur in the form of shyness in Ukrainians when making conversation with Czechs, they also bothers them little activity from the government to promote good relations between nations and the lack of interest of the Czechs in establishing conversations and friendly relations with Ukrainians. Positives could be a multicultural event that the government could organize to improve relations between Czechs and other cultures and promoting inter-cultural education in elementary schools. The second research question concerns the organizations that are trying to help them. It turned out, immigrants do know about these organizations they do not attend them that much.
