Preparation of fosters parents for a temporary period - from fosters parents perspective

The present thesis deals with the process of preparation for a temporary foster care. The aim of the thesis is to reflect on foster parent's personal experience and their preparation process. Specifically, the work focuses on various issues during the preparation process, its usefulness and the impact on their personal and family life. The theoretical part deals with the system of foster care. Furthermore, we will look at the temporary foster care itself, its inclusion in the system of foster care, and a special emphasis will be placed on the system of preparation for foster parents. In the practical part we will analyze and interpret the data of qualitative research which was carried out using the method of semi-structured interviews. Despite some shortcomings in preparation, such as the lack of practical information or the approach of lecturers, the research showed that the respondents perceived the preparation as beneficial. Above all, they appreciated the introduction to the issue, in harmony with professionals, or in self-experience. The preparations had impact not only on the respondents themselves, but also on their families and loved ones. The story of temporary foster care mother: proposals for system improvements

This thesis is a qualitative probe into the story of a temporary foster mother. The thesis captures, analyses and classifies this story into systemic context. It does so with an emphasis on the temporary foster mother's personal experience and also with using personal experience of other participants involved in this particular case - including mine. This thesis is largely a reflection of my own role in this story, it is looking at it from different perspectives that evolve over time. The thesis is grounded in theoretical sources, especially methodologies of temporary foster care and methodological recommendations. Theoretical sources are critically viewed and connected to personal experience. The resulting storytelling, which provides an insight into the wider context of temporary foster care in the Czech Republic, was based on this procedure. Capturing systemic context is used in this thesis to create suggestions for possible systemic improvements.

Temporary Foster Care

The topic of this bachelor thesis is temporary foster care. The piece is divided into the theoretical and practical part; the theoretical part deals with the definition of terms in temporary foster care, adaptation of the child in the family, the role of a social worker, contact between the child and the parent and the issue of attachment. The aim of the work is to explore how foster parents cope with handing over the child and to bring into focus the formal flaws viewed by the foster parents. The thesis will also investigate whether there is contact between the foster parents and the child after handing the child over. The thesis establishes two research questions connected with the previously stated aim: 1. Which procedures help the foster parent cope with the separation from the child? 2. Are there challenges in temporary foster care that significantly influence the occupation of the foster parent? The practical part uses qualitative research strategy, the method of questioning and the technique of semi-structured interview. Statements of four communication partners were used for the purpose of collection of the data. The results were formed by the method of clustering. There were specific procedures discovered from the collected data, that help the foster parents cope with the leaving of the child. There is also a description of formal flaws that cause difficulties in the foster parents' occupations. The results of the work may serve as a basis for further research, as a compilation for comparison with recent researches, or as a supporting material during the teaching of similar subjects since there was a thorough examination carried out in the lives of the foster families. The contribution of the work may be the close view into the work of long-term foster parents and the determination of formal flaws that make the everyday reality in foster care difficult.

Foster care for a temporary period - financial aspects as motivation

The thesis deals with the topic of temporary foster care and with the motivation for becoming a temporary foster parent. In the beginning the temporary foster care is introduced as a substitute form of the parental care in Czech republic. The theoretical chapters inform about the matter of this institute, about its financial support and the situation in the Pilsen Region. The next part briefly explains the term of the motivation and focuses on the motivation of foster parents for a temporary period. The theoretical findings are supplemented by the results of the qualitative research which was realized in the form of semi structured conversations with four foster parents and two workers of the substitutional care from the Pilsen Region. The research focused on the foster parent´s motivation and the role of financial motivation in making decision to become a foster parent.

Transformation and Deinstitutionalization in Substitutional Child Care System in the Czech Republic

Substitutional child care is an indispensable part of system of social and legal protection of children. Until 1989, institutional care was preferred, while after the fall of communist government it had been gradually replaced by substitutional family care, because of the inappropriateness of institutional care to fully compensate for family environment. Deinstitutionalization means transforming the system of placing children to alternative care and it is understood as transition from institutional care to types of substitutional family care, eventually to more individual type of care with more family character. An amendment to the Social and Legal Children Protection Act, which aimed at transforming the system of substitutional care towards more individual work with endangered children, came into force in 2013. The amendment restored the institute of temporary foster care and modified the institute of long-term foster care. Utilization of Foster Care for Interim Period at Sanitation of Family

The thesis has a theoretical section and a practical section. The theoretical part defines the key concepts: family, dysfunctional family, family rehabilitation, social and legal child protection, social and legal child protection tools, substitute family care, and temporary foster care. The practical part analyses statistical data from the Regional Authority of the South Bohemian Region, Substitute Family Care Department, over the six years that temporary foster care has been provided by the Authority. It focuses on clients who returned to their biological families. The objective of the research is to identify and describe efficient tools for successful rehabilitation of children who have been placed in foster care in the South Bohemian Region.

This master's thesis deals with the present legal regulation of foster care as one of the forms of a substitute care. Foster care is a traditional private law institute with public law elements. Its purpose is to ensure substitute care to children whoes parents, or even custodian are not able to care for them because of various reasons. So foster care is a subsidiary to biological parent's care. On the other hand, based on law, foster care has priority over institutional care. Due to the reformation of the substitute care system, foster care went through lots of changes lately. Primarily it was approached to the extensive amendment of Act no. 359/1999 Coll., on the social and legal protection of children and with the effectiveness since the 1st of January the family law regulation has been incorporated to the Act No. 89/2012 Coll., civil code. Long term foster-care and the temporary one - psychological aspects of the foster-parent view and child's view.

This thesis primarily deals with foster care. The readers are acquainted with the basic informations from the topic. Further on it deals with the issue of creating connections with foster parents. It points out differences and permanency of the realionship between the long term foster care and the temporary foster care. It outlines the specifics of psychological aspects in both forms of foster care on the side of the child and the foster parent himself. In the second part the qualitative proposal of research is submitted which is focused on children's experience with the foster care. It is trying to point out subjective view of children in their positive and negative form, due to the foster care, emotional anchoring in foster family and last but not least the children's view of transitions between families and problems connected to it. One of the outcomes of this research is to create hypotheses which will be used as a support for next research projects. Alternative(Substitutional) family care - development at newly defined legal environment

This bachelor's thesis describes the topic of foster care and its development in the newly defined law system. At the beginning it shows the importance of attachement, which is based on the basic needs of the child. It charted the development and types of attachement. The other part focuses on the topic of pathology of attachement. It is briefly defined terms of deprivation and separation. The next section shows forms of treatment processes in cases of deprivation and separation. In cases of deprivation is a given treatment process in the form of adoption and long-term care. It includes a basic definition of these terms and changes resulting from the new modification of the legal definition of this issue. In the section describing the healing process in case of separation is defined the foster care for a temporary period. Here it is pointed to process of attachement, interruption, or its transfer to another, new caregiver. It follows research proposal which can be the basis for subsequent studies. It is a comparison of the formation and sustain of emotional relationship in long-term foster care cases and in cases of foster care for a temporary period.
