Legality of the realization of the right to self-determination of nations in the form of unilateral secession Abstract This rigorous thesis deals with issues of statehood, nations, the right of nations to self- determination and its realization in the form of a unilateral secession. The second chapter introduces the most important theoretical approaches to secession theme, such as J. R. Wood, M. Hechter, D. L. Horowitz and especially A. Buchanan's Remedial theory. The second aim is to find out how players' motivational structure changes depending on the level of gaming. Relationships between motivation and the monitored variables (belonging to the given team - level of competition, gaming load) were evaluated using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Comparison of motivation at clubs at different levels of competition was performed using the t-test. By comparison, the data were compared with the results of other relevant studies. Results: On a given sample (n = 50), we found a correlation of the positive and the negative direction. At the alpha level of 0.1, a negative amortization correlation was found at the descending team level (R = 0.26; p-value = 0.07). A similar result was given by the result of the t-test, when we found a significant difference between the players from AC Sparta Praha and non-selective clubs (T = 2.8;...

Western Sahara - on the way to international recognition within the geopolitical context
Krupa, Mikuláš ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
The primary concern of this thesis is the topic of international recognition of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. It attempts to connect this issue with the conflict in Western Sahara and with the geopolitical context of this dispute. The dispute has constituted a major threat to regional stability and it impedes regional cooperation in the Maghreb region. From a legal prespective, the people of Western Sahara have the right to self-determination, but in spite of lengthy negotiations and several attempts at UN mandated referendums on the future of the territory, the conflict has not yet been resolved. The paper also focuses on the historical context and the origins of the dispute and the development of Western Sahara question. In the conclusion, it attempts to summarize the findings and to present the assessment of the possibilities of the dispute resolution. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
"Better Red than Dead": American Indians' Struggle for Sovereignty Rights in the 1960s and 1970s
Staňková, Olga ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof (referee)
In my thesis, I argue that the Native American activism of the 1960s and 1970s does not fall into the category of Civil Rights Movement because of its significantly different goals, and that the fundamentally different character of sovereignty rights also keeps the Indian struggle invisible in American understandings of U.S. political and social history. According to my analysis, the terms tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and treaty rights describe the ultimate goals of the Native American activists in the 1960s and 1970s the best. The decade between 1964 and 1974 witnessed the rise of radical Indian activism, which succeeded in reminding the general public and politicians that Indians are still present in the United States. Furthermore, it influenced a whole generation of Native Americans who found new pride in being Indian. However, this current of American activism is not known so well by the general U.S. public. This thesis will describe this state as "selective visibility" deriving from U.S. selective historical memory, only noticing and remembering those events and images concerning Native Americans that can be simply understood, somehow relate to the U.S. set of values, and fit in the national historical narrative.

Ročejdlová, Markéta ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The Abstract The work "The Impact of the Good Friday Agreement on the Protestant Community" deals with the Protestant community in Northern Ireland in the period between signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 and the St. Andrews agreement in 2007. The object of analysis is the change in perception of the Catholics, the Great Britain, Republic of Ireland and the Protestant community by itself in the relation to the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement, respectively its three principles (right to self-determination, power-sharing and parity of self esteems). The work is divided in several chapters. The work contains chapter describing the Good Friday Agreement and the profile of Protestants in 1998 and further chapters for each of the principles and their impact on the Protestant community. Thanks to more or less successful implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and the lost of the hegemonic position there was a significant shift in the identity of the Protestant community. The shift was accentuated by the intertwined religion, etno-national and political identification. After the 1998 there was a weakening of the ties with Great Britain and the British identity at the advantage of the identity Northern Irish. During the examined period the shift from the tradition division of the Northern...
Gibraltar in international relations
Vodenka, Aleš ; Kochan, Jan (advisor) ; Žalek, Lukáš (referee)
This Bachelor thesis addresses the status of Gibraltar in international relations. The issue is examined in the context of the process of decolonization. I have concentrated primarily on the analysis of development and current position of this British Overseas Territory. The territory is significantly affected by a sovereignty dispute between Britain and Spain since the second half of the last century. The thesis presents a framework of the question of Gibraltar, which aims to the ability to decide if it is currently possible to consider the territory to be de facto decolonized. Theoretically, Gibraltar is still on the UN list of Non-Self-Governing Territories, i.e. subject to the decolonization process. From understanding the concept of decolonization, the analysis of the politico historical development of Gibraltar, putting the issue into framework of the UN and examining arguments of the relevant parties in connection with the territorial dispute I come to the conclusion that it is the persisting dispute which keeps the territory from being internationally recognized as decolonized. But - considering the right to self-determination a paramount principle of international law - it is paradoxical that not only did the Gibraltarians speak out in favour of the present status of their country, but they also contributed to shaping it, which implies that they currently do not consider themselves a residue of colonial rule.
