1 Abstract This Master's thesis aims to explore the impact of the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons released in March 2020 for the Nintendo Switch console on players during the Covid-19 pandemic by analyzing forum posts and articles. The thesis further typifies the community of players of the game that post on the forums Animal Crossing Community and The Bell Tree Forums, their motivations for playing, and the ways in which the game provided them with an escape from the reality of the pandemic. Furthermore, the thesis partly focuses on media reflection of this phenomenon through the analysis of articles describing their own experience with the game. This thesis intends to achieve this through qualitative research methods, specifically through a case study using the method of analytical induction. The first chapters in the theoretical part of the thesis show that the existing knowledge about the impact of games and media in general on the mental health of people, and adolescents in particular, is contradictory. However, the research part of the thesis, which is divided into chapters based on the individual research questions, shows that in the case of this particular period, i.e. from the release of the game during the months of the most severe pandemic measures to their temporary easing in the summer of...
The bizarre sensation of real
Zacharová, Dominika ; Spáčilová Blažková, Kateřina (referee) ; Gravlejs, Ivars (advisor)
This work explores the subjective nature of reality. Our view of reality evolves with our surroundings and shapes our unique image of the world. Although a complete escape from reality seems unattainable, we try to look for moments in which we might slow down in an endless stream of events and phenomenons. One of these is the induction of relaxation, which acts as a temporary release from physical and mental stress, even if the actual escape is only temporary. By incorporating works into this space that carry with them a certain disturbing element, I seek to provoke an uncertainty or surprise in the viewers . The work creates situations that confront viewers with an unexpected experience in a seemingly relaxing environment. Which is induced by the appearance of the objects.
Helmet for Virtual and Augmented Reality
Buš, Ondřej ; Přinosil, Jiří (referee) ; Říha, Kamil (advisor)
The thesis focuses on the construction of a functional headset for multimedia content consumption. The acquired theoretical knowledge was used in the design and construction of the resulting headset. The theoretical knowledge was consolidated and extended by practical tests on currently available commercial AR/VR headset solutions. In the practical design, increased effort was made to keep the resulting solution as simple as possible. The components that were used in the work can be obtained relatively easily via the internet. With the help of advanced techniques, the thesis tries to optimize the visual experience. The most suitable parameters of the optical lenses are selected. The optical system is enhanced to provide an extended horizontal field of view. The thesis discusses the fabrication of the headset using the 3D printing method on a 3D printer. Subsequently, the individual parts are assembled into a single functional unit. The result of the thesis is a working prototype headset suitable for multimedia content consumption.
Escapes to Documentary - Escapes to Fiction. Film Directors-"Amphibians" and Questions of the Representation of Reality
FILIPOV, Jakub
The diploma thesis deals with the characterization of two basic film categories which collectively identify individual genres, fictional and non-fictional film. At the same time, it finds the arguments necessary for the theoretical anchoring of documentary film as a separate genre and comes up with its general definion. It also touches on issues of film style and, in part, issues related to the different types of reception of stylistic means attributed to specific modes of film depiction. The main aim of this work is to process the question of representation of reality and approach the way the directors of the so-called "amphibians" - Agn?s Varda and Werner Herzog - moving in the field of documentary and fiction, work with depiction of the actual world and how does it project itself into the fictional world. The interpretation of selected film works makes it possible to point out the specific role of authorship and thus thematize the atypical approach in which both directors are working with the film medium. Based on the interpreted films by director Agn?s Varda and director Werner Herzog, the work analyze the thematic similarities and stylistic elements characteristic of fiction and documentary works and their different uses across film genres. At the same time, the way in which the traditional boundary dividing films into fictional and non-fictional ones is systematically demolished, the fixed boundary which is almost impossible to define in practice, is like the film style that cannot be strictly divided into fictional and documentary because it is part of one cinematographic-historical unity.
