The Transformation of Karlin in the context of Marc Auge's theory of non-places
Šmídová, Markéta ; Váša, Ondřej (advisor) ; Marcelli, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with the most dynamically evolving Prague district Karlin. In the context of the theory of Marc Augé about non-places, it primarily addresses the transformation of Karlin after the floods in 2002 and its consequences. For easier orientation in this area it is at first outlined the theory of Marc Augé and the history of Karlin. It is followed by the practical part, which refers to the production of non- places. Against the backdrop of the industrial heritage it refers to the conversion of industrial buildings and the creation of new administrative centers that show signs of non-places. Construction of new office centers started the process of new development of Karlin. The nature of this process and the direction Karlin is moving , is presented with concrete examples. I note in particular the changes in the structure of newly opened businesses - shops and catering facilities . In the last part of the thesis I mention the typical expression of non-place in Karlin - the underground and its surroundings. The aim is to point out that the conversion of Karlin relates to the production of non- places. Keywords : conversion, industrial buildings, Karlin, Marc Augé, non-places, office buildings, office centers, underground.
Principles of information visualization in public transport's information systems
Farkaš, Pavel ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Ovesleová, Hana (referee)
The diploma thesis Principles of information visualization in public transit information systems considers the ways information design affects one of the most common activities of people in an urban environment: the use of public transit system. In this work, the city space becomes a framework for several disciplines connected to the concept of wayfinding. The author sets the topic in a wide historical and architectural context and links the connections with cognitive science. The case study describes principals for information design using the example of the Prague subway and their application to an experimental station with a new information system installed.
Public transportation in Prague during socializm
Frajková, Lucia ; Štemberk, Jan (advisor) ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (referee)
Diploma thesis maps functioning, problems and troubles of public transportation in Prague during socialism in years 1948 till 1974. These years represents the beginning of communism in Czechoslovak Republic and year of putting the Prague metro into operation. The aim of the work was to examine this limited period in terms of public transportation, its impact on urban development, how different types of public transportation interacted and complemented each other, what was its impact on passengers alone and , for example, how metro planning during this period affected the operation of busses, troleybusses and trams. We found that despite the fact that the metro was at first just an unnecessary plan, later the entire system of public transportation began to concentrate and change precisely because of its implementation. Key words: Public transportation, trams, buses, metro, city development
Formation of pole assymetry during the Xenopus laevis oocytes growing
Pácalová, Eliška ; Vávra, Jiří (advisor) ; Drutovič, David (referee)
A frog Xenopus laevis is an important model organism used in developmental and cell biology and physiology. Oocytes of this species are frequently used for study of mechanisms of oogenesis and membrane proteins. Through oogenesis an animal-vegetal axis is established by asymmetric distribution of determinant molecules which are important in embryogenesis and establishment for another body axes. The main aim of this thesis is to overview transport mechanisms for establishment of asymmetric molecule (especially mRNA) and organelles asymmetry to animal and vegetal poles and their regulation. Key words: Xenopus laevis, oocyte, animal pole, vegetal pole, cytoskeleton, intracellular transport, mitochondrial cloud, METRO, early pathway, late pathway
