The effects of total sleep deprivation and ammonia inhalants on the cognitive and physical abilities of military personnel

Given that this dissertation is built up upon three sequential studies, the objectives, methods and results of the thesis are accordingly divided into three distinct subsections (a, b, and c), each corresponding to an individual study. Title: The effects of total sleep deprivation and ammonia inhalants on the cognitive and physical abilities of military personnel Objectives: a) Conducting a literature review to identify the current understanding on the topic and substantial gaps in the literature by investigating the impact of ammonia inhalations on cognitive and physical performance. b) Conducting a methodological study to examine lacking test-retest reliability of standard-issued static and dynamic military shooting protocols for comprehensive investigation of the of total sleep deprivation impact and ammonia inhalants on handgun shooting accuracy. c) Conducting a control trial study to investigate the effectiveness of ammonia inhalants in altering the impact of 36 hours of total sleep deprivation on battery of cognitive and physical performance tests relevant for military personnel. 2 Legal regulation of weapons and ammunition Abstract The topic of the presented thesis is the legal regulation of weapons and ammunition analyzed in the context of two legal systems, namely the legislation of the Czech Republic, contained mainly in the provisions of the Weapons Act, which is the subject of the first chapter of this thesis, and the legislation of the United States of America, especially on at the level of federal regulations, including the Second Amendment to the Constitution, but with the necessary overlap into the regulation of the individual states of the federation, which are contained in Chapter Two. Structurally, the chapters are further divided into sub-chapters, and within them the reader is introduced not only to the legal provisions of the relevant regulations, which the author of the work prepared, and in the case of those in foreign languages, also translated, but also to the related jurisprudence and the context of this complex issue, which is further mediated thanks to foreign language and domestic literature, from which the work is also based. Constitutional law questions of weapons ownership with a focus on the Czech Republic Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the issue of ownership and disposal of weapons by civilians in the context of constitutional law with the aim of presenting the reader with a complex basis for understanding the individual institutes related to this topic. The primary focus of this thesis is the area of firearms disposal as a central point of the social debate on this issue. The thesis is divided into seven chapters, each of which is devoted to a different systematic unit. The first chapter is devoted to the definition of the term "weapon" by comparing the concept of this term across different branches of law and making a division of different types of weapons based on their partial characteristics. The second chapter will take the reader through the history of the legal regulation of weapons in our territory, which has been reflected in the current legal concept of weapons in the Czech Republic. Forensic ballistics Abstract The topic of this thesis is forensic ballistics, a technical forensic method, examining firearms, ammunition and other conditions of committing a crime using a firearms for criminalistic purposes. This thesis focuses on placing forensic ballistics in the general context of criminalistics, criminal law and international aspects. For this purpose is this thesis divided into three main parts. The first part deals with forensic ballistics as one of technical forensic methods. Attention will be paid to the definition of forensic ballistics, placing forensic ballistics into the system of criminalistics and areas of forensic ballistics. Particular objects of forensic ballistic examination, especially specific tangible and intangible assets examined by forensic ballistics, will be presented. According to objects of forensic ballistic examination will also be presented the issue of ballistic traces. Particular sections of forensic ballistic examination will be defined at the end of the first part. The second part is focused on procedural aspects of forensic ballistics, especially its connection with other forensic sciences and methods of criminalistics and criminal procedural law. Illegal arming and misuse of firearms

This thesis is focusing on the issue of illegal arming and misuse of firearms. The exact number of illegal weapons and their incidence is virtually undetectable. Illegal armaments and with that closely related misuse of firearms are global problems, which are not necessarily connected with criminal activities. The objective of this thesis is to theoretically and empirically map the issues of illegal arming and misuse of firearms in the Czech Republic. In the introductory theoretical section are define fundamental concepts and summarize the Czech "weapon" legislation in force. The section also describes the preparation for the implementation of European norms and with that connected preparation of the Czech weapon legislation change. The section follows with a description of the types of weapons, methods of obtaining legal weapons and firearms license, incursion of weapons into the black market, illegal weapons, their legalization and use of legislation in the fight against illegal armaments. There are also specific cases connected to the misuse of firearms, which illustrates the topicality of the addressed topic. The data, of the practical part of the study, were obtained from the official statistics of the crime department and statistics from the Police Presidium of the Czech Republic. The objective of the study is to descriptively map and analyse development of emergencies with the use of firearms in the Czech Republic in the years 2010 - 2019. Three basic research questions are formulated, to which an answer will be sought. The questions will be answered using the mapping of the development of illegal arming and the misuse of firearms in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the definition of the activities of individual components of the integrated rescue system in the intervention against an active shooter and legislative measures focusing on the issue of firearms in the civilian sector. In the period under review the results of the collected data show that the incidence of cases of illegal arming stagnates and the misuse of firearms has been declining for a long time. Legally held firearms are more often misused to commit crimes. It was also found that weapons are the most frequently misused for dangerous threats, intentional assault and robbery. The results of the research and the conclusions can be used for study purposes and as material for the protection of the population. It is important to address this issue, as the effects of illegal arming are significant. The long-standing unresolved issue of illegal weapons could cause many serious problems with an impact on human health, lives, the economy or possibly society as a whole.

Firearm Type Identification in an Image

Main goal of this work is to design, implement and test an approach for classifying firearms in an image into categories with short and long fireams, and then with single shot, multi-barreled, repeating and semi-automatic/automatic firearms. This problem was solved using SVM classifier together with Harris corner detector, FREAK descriptor and Bag of Words method. Accuracy of final program is up to 13,3 %.

The content of this thesis are also methods of surface treatment of the barrel rifling. In conclusion, the thesis describes weapon life and deterioration of barrel firearms.
Suggestions for changes in the production of a part "revolver trigger"

The study deals with production technology of “revolver trigger“. Final assembly is short firearm ALFA Steel and its model series of ALFA-PROJ, Ltd company. Introduction submits an explanation of trigger technology suitability. The following analysis describes current manufacturing process, which has manufacturing inaccuracy problem. Furthermore rootcause of manufacturing inaccuracy was determined and analysis of suggestions for changes (including modifications of technological process) was realized. Based on experiment dimensions were measured on provided samples of suggest production in Technical Control Department. Dimensions of triggers manufactured by current production were verified during the experiment too. Results were compared according to the rejects of production. In the final phase of the study manufacturing labor costs were compared for the one piece of trigger with the new suggested technology.
