The Czech-German Military-Security Cooperation vs. the Arising Strategic Culture of the Czech Republic
Stojanovová, Kamila ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Dvořák, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor thesis depicts the Czech-German military-security cooperation in context of the security cultures of both countries. It focuses on the specific German strategic culture, however, the process of emerging strategic culture in the case of Czech Republic as a possible limiting factor for the military cooperation with Germany has also been pointed out. The theoretical base of this work are the concepts of political- military culture from Thomas U. Berger and strategic culture from Kerry Longhurst. The key criteria for the compatibility-analysis of both strategic cultures are the historical experience with the use of military force, the attitudes to army and use of force across the political elite, in the public opinion and in strategic papers, and the legitimation process of military missions. According to this, the aim of the work is to find the reason why in the period prior to the accession of Czech Republic to NATO the cooperation in the political and practical spheres didn't take place in the same intensity. At the same time, it tries to find the reason why the participation of the Czech Army in PRT Faizabad has been the only significant moment in the military cooperation with Germany after the NATO-accession in 1999. However, this work doesn't leave out the recent development, which...

Folta, Adam ; Marjanovič, Teodor (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
In this bachelor thesis called Embedding the approach to war reporting I would like to bring coherent material about embedding. The first part of the text will cover the historical setting of embedding in context. It roots into the ancient times and through World War I. or Vietnam War the text terminates with Ukrainan crisis. Another part of the work will bring information about objectivity whether embedding shows complete and comlex reporting. If is it true that journalist, who spent a time with troops, will be affected by the troops, thus the objectivity will turn up a dilemma.. In the bachelors thesis I would like to present principle of journalist ethics, which are usefull for being in a conflict or crisis situation. The legislation is also part of the text and it is connected with rules, which have to be followed by embed. These rules are part of the bigger concept of ISAF organization. Another part of my bachelor thesis involves an attitude of Czech army and shows how Czech system works. In the practical part of the work I will publish the transcript of three interviews with journalists like František Šulc, Michal Kubal and Teodor Marjanovič. These journalists were embedded with Czech and American troops in the Second Gulf War in 2003, and during operations in Afghanistan. In my bachelor...

Melich, Ladislav ; Štalmach, Pavel (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is "Security capabilities optimalization of Czech armed forces". The original research aims to propose the strategic optimalization of the security capabilities of Czech armed forces. After the description of the evolution of the transformation of Czech armed forces from 1989 the thesis has offered an analysis of threats, risks and assets to Czech republic made on the basis of Czech strategic security documents. On this basis matrix of security risks has been created. Then preventive and liquidation measures that are necessary to adopt in case of emergency situations have been formulated. In the next section necessary security capabilities for realization of the measures have been suggested. Although the author examined all security capabilities necessary for elimination of security risks, major emphasis has been given to military capabilities. The actual military capabilities of Czech armed forces have also been described. The main aim of this thesis has been to define the strategic gap - the difference between desirable military capabalities and actual military capabilities - and to present strategic goals for approximately next twenty years.
The Reflection of the Army of the Czech Republic in NATO and EU Operations in Czech and Foreign Newspapers
Žilková, Věra ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The master thesis examines the war reporting of two Czech dailies (Mladá fronta DNES and Právo), specifically their coverage of the Czech Army mission and deployment in Afghanistan. In the theoretical part the quality of reporting, topic and factors that influence the journalist work are considered. A major theme is the relationship of media and political elites and some of its manifestations - the CNN effect connected with the media and public push on the departure of US military from Vietnam, and peace- journalism a concept of reporting on wars by exploiting more themes like reconstruction and peaceful solutions rather than war and combat. The quantitative analysis aims to verify these phenomenon in the Czech media. This is done mainly by analysing the reports sources and looking for the presence of three frames derived from the theoretical literature on this topic: heroic framing applied on Czech soldiers, national framing reflecting the national interests, and humanitarian and development aid framing.
