New Electrolytes for Modern Electrochemical Applications
Reiter, Jakub ; Mička, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Opekar, František (referee) ; Vlček, Antonín (referee)
1. Introduction Electrochemical and mechanical properties of polymer gel electrolýes have been intensively investigated since the introduction ofthe 1" generation of solid polyrrner electrolýes by M.Armand [1]. Their electrochemical application includes secondary lithium batteries, supercapacitors, chemical sensors and electrochromic devices. Wide application of the gel polyrner electrolytes is allowed due to the hrgher ionic conductivity compared with solid polyrner electrolýes and due to the higher safety properties in comparison with common liquid electrolytes. Organic methacrylate-based polymers are perspective materials for their low toxicity both of monomer and polymer forrn, when methyl methacrylate (MMA) is widely used in the dental praxis. Poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA was used in electrochemistry for the frst time by Iijíma [2] and than either pure or in different polymer modifications including varlous copolymers [3, 4]. Aprotic solvents like sulpholane, organic carbonates, N,N- dimethylformamide, and formamide are usually incorporated in the polymer structure to form ternary electrolýe polymer-solvent-salt. PMMA polymer gel electrolytes with embedded particles of nanosized TiO2 [5], carbon [6] or proton-conductive membranes with different organic acids t7l oÍ orthophosphoric acid [8] were...
Substrátem kontrolované fyzikální vlastnosti tenkých vrstev magnetických oxidů pro spintronické aplikace
Maleček, Tomáš ; Veis, Martin (advisor)
As conventional electronics approaches its fundamental limits, new paradigms are re- quired. Integration of new spintronic materials with current silicon technology shows great promise. This thesis demonstrates the possibility of growing textured stress-free La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 (LSMO) thin films on silicon with properties comparable to epitaxi- ally grown layers on SrTiO3 (STO). Growth of LSMO is achieved by a two-dimensional nanosheet (NS) seed layer of Ca2Nb3O10 inducing epitaxial stabilization of LSMO films. Samples of LSMO on NS/Si, prepared by pulsed laser deposition, have been shown to have lower magnetization than samples of LSMO on STO yet also possess a higher Curie temperature by more than 10 K. Spectral dependence of the full permittivity tensor was calculated from optical and magneto-optical measurements. Spectra of the off-diagonal element have been fitted with three diamagnetic transitions located around 1.9, 2.9 and 3.5 eV for samples on NS/Si as well as for samples on STO. Similarities between the samples open the possibility of integration of LSMO into silicon technology using NS. Temperature-dependent optical and magneto-optical properties of a sample of LSMO on STO have been evaluated.
Psychodiagnostics in personnel psychology - Selection process for a position of Air traffic controller. (Analysis of success of candidate in training based on results of selected tests).
Šustíková, Klára ; Wagnerová, Irena (advisor) ; Štikar, Jiří (referee)
The first purpose of this study was to map the field of psychodiagnostic methods in the selection process for the position of Air traffic controller in selected countries in Central Europe. The second one was to see how differs the results of FEAST and psychological testing among different groups of candidates in relation to their success in training. This is a quantitative research. The method used in collecting data was the analysis of results of selected tests for individual candidates. The research was realized at 93 candidates who successfully completed the selection procedure for the position of the Air traffic controller at ŘLP Čr from 2005 - 2009. The data were analyzed using SPSS statistical program. In the vast majority of performance or personality tests did any statistically significant difference was not found between the group of successful and unsuccessful candidates in training. A statistically significant difference was detected in the scale "Noticed matches" in the FEAST test battery, where unsuccessful candidates scored above. Another one was discovered in the test CAQ in factor Q1: Radicalism, where successful candidates achieved lower scores than the unsuccessful. We believe that candidates who manage the selection procedure are so good that it is not possible their further...

Koubínová, Darina ; Zima, Jan (advisor) ; Macholán, Miloš (referee) ; Martínková, Natália (referee)
Phylogenetic relationships of a sample comprising 248 bats belonging to 19 species and four families (Hipposideridae, Rhinolophidae, Molossidae and Vespertilionidae) from Senegal (Western Africa) were investigated with the use of multi-locus sequence data and non- differentially stained chromosomes. The karyotypes of Hipposideros ruber, H. tephrus, H. jonesi and H. cyclops were described for the first time. The standard Hipposideros formula was recorded in H. tephrus, H. jonesi and H. ruber (2n = 32, FNa = 60, FN = 64). The karyotypes of H. cyclops (2n = 36, FN = 66) and H. gigas (2n = 52, FN = 64) substantially diverged from this typical chromosomal complement. Rhinolophus landeri and R. fumigatus shared the same diploid number (2n = 58), but differed in the chromosome morphology (R. fumigatus - FNa = 60, FN = 64; R. landeri - FNa = 64, FN = 68). Rhinolophus landeri was found karyotypically distinct to other African populations, thus signalling a possible presence of cryptic forms within this species. The karyotypes of Chaerephon pumilus and Mops condylurus had a 2n = 48, FN = 54 and were similar to other previously studied species of this chromosomally conservative family. Chromosomal, Bayesian, maximum likelihood and genetic distance analyses revealed an indication for the existence of cryptic...
Development of a bioanalytical method for the determination of novel drug candidates derived from thiosemicarbazone in a biological material
Suprunová, Vlasta ; Stariat, Ján (advisor) ; Kučera, Radim (referee)
Nowadays, high-performance liquid chromatography is widely used analytical method for separation and quantification of drugs in biological material due to its high sensitivity and selectivity. HPLC is suitable for quantitative as well as qualitative analysis. 2-benzoylpyridine-4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (Bp4eT) is a potential drug from the group of thiosemicarbazones, which are currently intensively studied and developed as anticancer agents. Their specific mechanism of action, based on chelation of iron, might overcome resistance to standard chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to develop and assess essential validation parameters of an HPLC-MS/MS method for determination of Bp4eT and its main phase I metabolites in rat plasma and to utilise the method for the analysis of samples from a pilot pharmacokinetic study in rats. The separation of Bp4eT and its metabolites was achieved on chromatographic column Discovery HSC18 (75 x 4.6 mm, 3 µm) protected by the same type of guard column using the mobile phase consisting of ammonium formate and acetonitrile in ratio 40:60 (v/v). The isocratic elution and the flow rate of 0.4 ml/min were utilised. Mass spectrometer was chosen as a detector and the quantification was performed in selected reaction monitoring mode. Plasma samples were treated using the...
Analysis of antimicrobial peptides in venom glands of bumblebees.
Janechová, Daniela ; Cvačka, Josef (advisor) ; Monincová, Lenka (referee)
The growing resistance of bacteria to traditional antibiotics promotes the interest in finding new substances for their production. Antimicrobial peptides have comparable effect to conventional antibiotics, but a different mechanism of action and they do not provoke bacterial resistance. These peptides were characterized in all forms of multicellular organisms. Hymenoptera venom contains many biologically active substances including antimicrobial peptides. For this reason, this thesis focuses on the acquisition of antimicrobial peptide sequences from selected species of bumblebees (Bombus terrestris, B. hortorum, B. hypnorum, B. pratorum, B. lucorum, B. lapidarius, B. humilis and B. bohemicus). The isolation from the venom glands was performed by high performance liquid chromatography with reversed phases. Subsequent analysis was performed using the methods of mass spectrometry, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization with time of flight analyzer and electrospray ionization connected with hybrid linear ion trap analyzer with orbitrap. The sequences for the found peptides were determined by tandem mass spectrometry methods "de novo" and Edman degradation. In this work we characterized 17 sequences of peptides extracted from bumblebee venom glands for which antimicrobial activity was determined...
Thermoregulation in ant genus Formica, an individual vs. colony conflict
Kadochová, Štěpánka ; Frouz, Jan (advisor) ; Dauber, Jens (referee) ; Domisch, Timo (referee)
This thesis deals with thermoregulation in red wood ants, in Formica rufa group. Our aim was to better understand the mechanisms by which red wood ants maintain thermal homeostasis in their nests. Red wood ants are known to keep high and stable temperatures in their nests from spring to autumn. Most emphasis is placed on the role of the nest mound as a solar collector or on a heat production by microbial community present in the nest material. However, some researchers believe that wood ants are able of active nest thermoregulation in which they can affect the nest temperature by behavioural reactions, mainly by sun basking, increased metabolic heat production or heat transport. The thesis consists of three research articles. The first one is focused on the timing of thermoregulation in red wood ants, the second one investigates in more detail one specific aspect of red wood ant thermoregulation - a sun basking behaviour. These two papers provide data from long-term field observations and experiments. The last paper is based on laboratory experiments where we tested a hypothesis resulting from field observations. Thanks to the field research we found out that ant activity (traffic on ant trails) significantly correlates with nest temperature; once the activity decreased the thermal homeostasis...

Heydová, Radka ; Záliš, Stanislav (advisor) ; Slavíček, Petr (referee) ; Srnec, Martin (referee)
Title: Theoretical study of spin-orbit coupling on spectra and photophysics of rhenium complexes Author: RNDr. Radka Heydová Department: Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry Supervisor: Ing. Stanislav Záliš, CSc., JHI AS CR, v.v.i. Supervisor's e-mail address: stanislav.zalis@jh.inst-cas.cz Abstract: Relativistic effects, especially spin-orbit coupling (SOC), play an essential role in transition metal chemistry and SOC treatment is indispensable for a correct theoretical description. To demonstrate the importance of SOC, the energies and oscillator strengths of vertical transitions for a series of [ReX(CO)3(2,2'-bipyridine)] (X = Cl, Br, I) and [Re(imidazole)(CO)3(1,10-phenanthroline)]+ complexes were calculated in the spin-free (SF) and spin-orbit (SO) conceptual frameworks. Two different computational approaches were adopted: SO-MS-CASPT2 where SOC was added a posteriori using a configuration interaction model (SO-RASSI), and the approximate perturbative SO-TD-DFT method. Relativistic effects were included via the two-component Douglas-Kroll-Hess transformation and the zeroth-order regular approximation in the former and the latter technique, respectively. The SF (i.e. accounting only for the scalar relativistic effects) and SO results from both methods were compared with each other and to available...
Caspar David Friedrich, The motif of figure at the window, its genesis and evolution.
Hájková, Zita ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
The thesis deals with the life and work of Caspar David Friedrich (1774 - 1840) who is considered one of the most important painters and drawers of the German romanticism. His main contribution for painting was the creation of pictures with subjective, later also politically motivated symbolism. The themes of his works in particular included the nature where persons often stand and watch the landscape in distance. The first chapter provides information on the personality and work of the painter who created a new style of landscaping. In nature he discovered the spiritual element that he connected with the picture. The work then describes the influences of the romantic literary movement and religion on his work. The second chapter presents a female figure turned with her back to the viewer in a painting called Woman by the Window from 1822. Various interpretations of art historians connected especially with romanticising visions of individuality and infinity are presented. The origin and development of the female figure turned with her back to the viewer in painting from prehistoric times up to the 20th century is also outlined. The phenomenon of a window in art is explained in the third chapter. A window in interior and a view from a window is also demonstrated as a mean of expression of an artist....
