Fire as an alternative way of the landscape management
Maximov, Fedor ; Novák, Jan (advisor) ; Adámek, Martin (referee)
Prescribed burning is a method that has been used since prehistoric times to keep unforested areas. In pastures, fire was used to remove dead biomass, return nutrients to the soil and improve forage quality, as well as to convert forests fields to a shifting agriculture. The abandonment of burning in the last century has led to an accumulation of plant biomass in the landscape. This, combined with global warming, is now creating the threat of dangerous fires. In 2022, controlled burning was allowed in the Czech Republic as a way of managing habitats that are at risk of becoming woodland without proper management. Rare heliophilous plant and animal species are tied to them. It would therefore be advisable to reintroduce this management method, together with monitoring and control of its effects on species and communities. The aim of this backelor thesis is to summarise the existing knowledge about prescribed burning in Europe. It also describes how controlled burning affects the dynamics of dry grasslands and heathlands. The main focus is on attributes of controlled burning that can be used to maintain selected habitats. Keywords: fire, vegetation, landscape management, succession

Bretterová, Anna ; Boulaz, Ivana (referee) ; Májek, Jan (advisor)
This work focuses on the design of a new urban structure in the Břeclav and the connection of separate parts of the city while respecting the protection zones. It also includes the design of new public spaces – streets, parks, squares. The proposed solution tries to support and further develop the character of the city - the close connection with nature and the frequent use of bicycle transport. The work also deals with the revitalization of the current course of the Dyje River - the re-meandering and restoration of the old river arm. Finally, space is also dedicated to improving the quality of transport in Břeclav.
Breathing hard at the pastures
Davidová, Iva ; Kadlčák, Šimon (referee) ; Lungová, Barbora (advisor)
My bachelor's thesis is based on a posthumanist approach to (non)wild nature. It simultaneously analyses it based on examples of visual human representation of fauna and flora and the question of "naturalness". I explore the contemporary aesthetics of depicting "nature" in visual art on the one hand and in the space of social media on the other, as I consider them as interconnected spheres. Today, one can observe a tendency to define oneself against the romanticization of wild nature and the harm that this romanticization causes. Consequently, both sources influence the root of the visual language that I am adopting in the context of the elaboration of my bachelor thesis. In addition to the clear continuity with my previous works, in which I already developed the theme of plants, especially grasses, variously set in landscapes without humans, I use in the bachelor thesis the language of existential memes manifestly avoiding the romanticization of nature and its anthropomorphization. The multimedia approach should resonate with the absence of boundaries between romanticization and non-romanticization of what we call nature. Through a combination of media, I explore how my demarcation against the romanticization of nature further manifests itself, observing that resistance to romanticization eventually breeds a new romanticization and that, as humans, we tend to aestheticize everything nonhuman endlessly. The essayistic-poeticizing text, which I take as another means of expression, serves me precisely to bring out some of the levels of this complex issue, such as the critical reflective layer. Through my work, I ask questions about how these mechanisms apply in art, what particular aesthetic patterns or trends do, and what kind of aesthetic experience they make possible. Can one be both romantic and urgently engaged in the face of the apocalypse?
Aquatic centre
Kudelová, Aneta ; Řehák, Filip (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis, entitled Aquatic centre, deals with the design of a three-story building for water sports activities. The site of the proposed building is located in the city district of Brno - Pisárky on the land of the former wastewater treatment plant, on whose existing reinforced concrete structure it is also designed. The building consists of one underground and two above-ground floors. The building includes a pool hall with a 50-meter swimming pool, a whirlpool, a non-swimming pool and a children's pool. A wellness center with a small fitness facility is planned on the second floor. There are eight saunas in the wellness area, two of which are steam, three whirlpools and two cooling pools. Two of these hot tubs and one cooling pool are designed in the spaces of the outdoor terrace. These facilities are connected by a central cloakroom. The building also includes spaces for the clubhouse of the rowing club and a storage room for canoes. The structure of the building is divided into two parts: a wooden structure made of slatted beams and columns for the pool hall and a reinforced concrete skeleton structure with perimeter reinforced concrete walls for the rest of the building. The roof is an L-shaped counter with a vegetation layer. In the middle of the building there is an outdoor atrium, also with a vegetation layer. Most of the building, apart from the glass facades, is covered by an external metal facade with added vegetation.
A draft amendment selected section of of the watercourse
Vyplel, Adam ; Blahuta, Jaroslav (referee) ; Šlezingr, Miloslav (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the draft amendment of the selected section of the Veverka watercourse in the cadastral area of Brno-Bystrc in the km 0,632 to 0,918 of watercourse. The adaptation is mainly done as a draft for the stabilization of damaged banks by means of stone retaining wall, wooden pole fencing, stone riprap and gabions. The suitability of the given measures was determined on the basis of the current state of the watercourse. In the chosen section there is a sedimentation reservoir with a boulder chute that has been subjected to an assessment of the stability of the slope surface. Then the HEC-RAS program is used to verify the flow capacity of the whole flow channel for the one-year flow Q1 condition. Subsequently, the vegetation accompaniment and the coastal vegetation of the selected section of the watercourse were designed in order to naturally connect the watercourse to the surrounding forest vegetation.
