Essential Oils in Conifers (Pinopsida) and Their Use
Kratochvílová, Eliška ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
This thesis focuses on a brief characteristic of conifers (Pinopsida) in the light of their taxonomy, morphology and reproduction, secondary metabolism of plants and production of essential oils. Essential oils are then characterised in terms of their composition, uses and methods of their retrieving/extraction. Thesis then determines an outline and detailed characteristics of the most frequently occurring essential oils in conifers and it emphasizes their uses and adverse effects on humans. The last part briefly introduces didactic potential of this topic in primary and secondary education.
Use and Abuse of Herbal Stimulants
Lichtenbergová, Lucie ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with plant stimulants and their biologically active substances. The first theoretical part of the thesis presents basic information about plant stimulants, basic characteristics of secondary metabolism and secondary metabolites, including their occurrence in different plants. Next, the thesis discusses selected representatives, together with their biologically active substances, which provide stimulatory effects on the human organism. Subsequently, the thesis presents the issue of possible dependencies on plant stimulants, which are almost unknown in terms of information. This theoretical part was of a research character. The last part of the thesis is didactic, it deals with the analysis of curriculum documents for four-year high schools in terms of the amount of information about plant stimulants. The didactic part includes the design of a worksheet and also laboratory work that could be used in education. Plant stimulants are widespread all over the world, but awareness of them is quite low, so this work can be used in teaching to broaden awareness of the issue. KEYWORDS plant stimulants, stimulants, secondary metabolites, drug addiction
Cenomanian vegetation of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin
Čepičková, Jana ; Kvaček, Jiří (advisor) ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (referee) ; Spicer, Robert A. (referee)
Cenomanian plant fossils from the Peruc-Korycany Formation of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, Czech Republic are described, analysed and their palaeoenvironment is interpreted. Cycad foliage Nilssonia mirovanae Čepičková et J.Kvaček including micromorphology of its cuticle was described. It shows deeply sunken stomatal apparati surrounded by papillae overhanging the stomatal pit. The haplocheilic stomata are arranged in rows. Todziaphyllum saportanum (Velen.) Čepičková et J.Kvaček is a serrate-margined leaf with semicraspedodromous venation. Since the cuticle of this plant fossil has not been preserved, macro-observation is the only method available. Ascarinophyllum pecinovense Čepičková et J.Kvaček is a serrate-margined leaf, having an abaxial cuticle covered by striations, randomly oriented, and radially oriented striations around the stomata. This species shows a combination of laterocytic/laterocyclocytic, stephanocytic-bicyclic, amphibrachyparacytic, less frequently brachyparacytic and holoparacytic stomata, sometimes with T-shaped thickenings of the internal cuticle at the poles. Papillaephyllum labutae Čepičková et J.Kvaček is characterised by leaves with serrate margins. It shows an abaxial cuticle covered by large papillae. Its stomatal apparatus shows a combination of latero-cyclocytic and...
Mineral Springs of Františkovy Lázně
Hájková, Eliška ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Andreska, Jan (referee)
The aim of this bachelors thesis is to summarize the available information about mineral springs in he Františkovy Lázně region and to characterize them in detail from chemical and physical point of view. The thesis also deals with the geology and hydrogeology of the given area. It defines the concept of balneology and gives examples of diseases that can be treated with the help of mineral springs. For the needs of elementary schools, individual mineral springs in Františkovy Lázně are part of the excursion circuit. Keywords: mineral springs, balneology, Františkovy Lázně, excursion, elementary school
Birds in Kralovska obora Stromovka as an Educational Topic
Řezníčková, Adéla ; Svobodová, Silvie (advisor) ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (referee)
Thesis Title: Birds in Kralovska obora Stromovka as an educational topic Author: Bc. Adéla Řezníčková University supervisor: PhDr. Ing. Silvie Svobodová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The thesis explores the utilization of Královská obora Stromovka, an urban park, as a suitable location for organizing excursions and environmental educational programs focused on birds. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the concept of zoological topics, specifically bird- related subjects, within the curriculum framework and examines their treatment in textbooks. Furthermore, the theoretical section provides a characterization of the chosen location from both historical and current perspectives, along with an overview of bird protection regulations in European and Czech legislation. The concluding portion of the theoretical part outlines excursions as an educational method and environmental education program. The primary objective of the thesis is to develop, implement, and evaluate an environmental education program that integrates students' theoretical knowledge of birds and principles of environmental education with practical learning in a natural setting, allowing students to connect with their local environment. Three excursions were proposed and conducted, each taking place during a different season. To gather feedback,...
Teaching geology from the point of view of the general public
Lacina, Martin Jakub ; Jedličková, Tereza (advisor) ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (referee)
Within the didactics of natural sciences, research on personal attitudes primarily focuses on the attitudes of direct participants in education, namely students and teachers. The opinions of the general public are often overlooked, even though they play a significant role in shaping students' attitudes. As part of a master's thesis, a questionnaire survey was conducted focusing on the attitudes and opinions of the general public towards geological sciences and their education. Additionally, students from the first and second year of secondary school and teachers of natural science subjects, were approached. The collected data was evaluated using selected statistical methods, which allowed, among other things, the comparison of responses from different target groups of respondents. A total of 727 respondents participated in the questionnaire survey (414 respondents from the general public, 201 students, and 112 teachers). The results indicate that the attitudes of the general public are generally positive. Geology is not considered a difficult and boring subject. Despite all three groups rating geology as an unpopular subject, they regard geological sciences as part of general education. Enthusiastic and motivated teachers, mineral and rock samples, field trips, and excursions are considered the...
