Thomas Brussig and the literature of the time of change ("Wendezeit")

Cílem mé diplomové práce bylo charakterizovat dílo spisovatele Thomase Brussiga. Analyzovala jsem autorovu prózu vzniklou v rozmezí let 1989-1995, a to nejen v souvislosti s jeho životem, ale také v kontextu doby, v níž díla vznikla. Historické pozadí se jeví pro Brussigovu tvorbu jako zásadní a pochopení některých dobových souvislostí je základním předpokladem pro pochopení celého autorova díla. Doba je totiž nejen pozadím popisovaných příběhů - její kritika, ba dokonce pouhá charakteristika se stávají tématem Brussigových knih. Pro literární vědu je zajímavým příkladem zúčtování s kontroverzní spisovatelkou Christou Wolfovou, jejíž povídka Was bleibt1 vyvolala bouřlivé reakce osobností německé kulturní sféry. V románu Helden wie l-Fir 2 Brussig tuto autorku podrobuje zdrcující kritice, a to kritice sice ne vždy zcela přímé, ale přesto naprosto jednoznačné. Ve snaze o zachycení důvodů a okolností, které s touto kritikou souvisejí, jsem do své práce zařadila stručnou charakteristiku literárních a historických diskuzí, jež jsou důkazem neklidné atmosféry postsocialistického Německa, stejně jako Německa znovusjednoceného. Důležitou součástí teoretické části práce je přehled některých děl, která vznikla po roce 1989 a která dokumentují vývoj prózy, poezie a dramatu v době politických změn. Pokouším se...

Pfedkladana diplomova prace se zabyva basnickym dilem prazskeho rodaka Franze Baermm.ma Steinera (1909-1952). Za basnikova zivota zustalo dilo sirsi ctenarske verejnosti prakticky nezname; souborne vydani - Am stürzenden Pfad. Gesammelte Gedichte - uspohidal teprve v roce 2000 Jeremy Adler. Jeho edice vychazi z vydani sbirky Eroberungen, poHzeneho H. G. Adlerem (1964), a ze Steinerovy pozustalosti. Predkladana diplomova prace se opira 0 edici Jeremyho Adlera (Steiner 2000) a metodologicky navazuje na francouzskou skolu critique thematique, predevsim na studie Jean-Pierra Richarda. 1 Richard zkouma obrazivost (l 'imaginaire) jednotlivych autonl a pokousi se urcit jejich stezejni obrazovy fond, ktery zaklada charakteristicky svet konkretniho basnika. Zvolili jsme tuto metodu, nebot' Steiner sva temata prostredkuje pomod obrazu. Jeho obrazy nejsou nahodne a v basnickem dile se vraceji. Timto zpusobem nam basnik umoznuje pomerne presne stanovit vyznamjednotlirych obrazu a take vztahy mezi nimi. PHsne chronologickou analyzu jsme po urcitem vahani z nekolika duvodu zavrhli: basne za autorova zivota vetSinou nebyly zverejneny, a proto dilo nepodleha linearnimu ryvoji, jenz vyplyva z kontaktu dila s publikern. The problems of the Czech-German-Jewish coexistence in Moritz Hartmann's life and work

This Thesis works out the issue of the Czech-German-Jewish Relations in Moritz Hartmann's Life and Work. As a Jew growing up in a Czech village, he received a German education. Talented in writing, he became a politically oriented author, who similarly to Heine knew how to use old forms to put into them a new political content. Hartmann used very often a form of a monk diary or used even a character of a writing monk, who is trying to be objective, but is on the contrary very subjective. This form is not by chance a form of at that time newly found medieval Czech manuscript, which proved to a be falsification in the 20th Century. Hartmann is not only using a form related to the Czech National Movement, but also topics from Bohemian history occur in the majority of his works. Hartmann's Bohemian motives raised a debate on two different issues. Are the topics purely Czech or are they Bohemian? Can a history belong to a single nation in a multicultural environment? The other issue is Hartmann's legitimacy of using the Bohemian history. Is he as a German writing and a pro German feeling Jew from Bohemia allowed to loving the Bohemian country? Dilo Thomase Manna plati za silne autobiograficke, konflikt otee a syna zde figuruje pomeme casto. An attempt to classify the literary motif of a double character

This study aims at working out a consistent typology that might be applied on the literary motif of a double in its entire variety, i. e. from simple comedies with alike brothers and sisters to the stories, the themes of which are the split within the human psyche, the relation of man to his mirror, or painted, image, and the like. It is divided into two basic parts. In the first part, after the reader has been briefly informed of the concept and articulation of this motif by some earlier writers (O. Fischer, E. Frenzel), the author offers his own articulation: the core of the double-motif is a situation in which identities or important properties of a certain subject are mutually exchanged. While the above mentioned earlier writers in their articulation accentuate rather the form of the double-ness, for instance the double-ness based on kindred rather than the double-ness acquired e.g. through a spell, this work dwells on the intention of the double-ness, for example of a double-ness, acquired in whatever way, purposed to cheat or play a game. Fiction, biography and documntary in W.G. Sebald's narrative prose

This dissertation is devoted to fiction, biographical and documentary work in the prose of the German author W. G. Sebald. W. G. Sebald was a unique character with a distinguished way of storytelling on the post-war German literary scene with. Most topics thet were paid attention to in his books were related to Germany and its history. Sebald was one of the early Germanists, who wrote in German language and who followed the topic of the civil inhabitans' misery during the air raids of the Allies over Germany in World War II. Another important topic in his books was the Holocaust and he also frequently dealt with the relationship between the Jews and non-Jewish people in Germany. W. G. Sebald's books are difficult to be put in a particular category. His work actually breaks boundaries between categories, between non-fiction and fiction. The Author himself denied the categories in literature. He called his prose "the fictional prose". A unique junction of fiction and facts, biographical and autobiographical elements, the books of travel, architecture and country descriptions together with reflections and fictional essays is typical of this author's books. Also characteristic of his texts is the usage of pictures and photographs, mostly black-and-white, scattered freely in a text.

Walter Benjamin's philosophy of language

The work analyzes Walter Benjamin's philosophy oflanguage presenting it as an ontological and cognitive basis ofhis early thought (1916-1925). The investigation starts from a detailed study of an unpublished reflection On language as Such and on the Language of Man. The analysis of the text contrasts its metaphysical interpretation with its deconstructive reading opting for a hermeneutical approach. Benjamin's philosophy of language is presented as a theory in which all being is conceived as language. Benjamin not only constructs a metaphysical conception according to which all human beings express themselves to God by naming existing things, but simultaneously defines constitutive property of (all) language, namely its "immediacy", i.e. the fact that language is primarily not a medium of communication. However, the text On language describes also a (biblical) fall which causes a loss of immediacy and a rise of the multiplicity of languages. The area of (fallen) plurality of languages is investigated in the The Tas k of the Translator, which focuses on the relation and kinship of languages. This kinship is based on the fact that alllanguages want to say the same thing, namely the "pure language". Grimmelshausenuv Dobrodruzny Simplicius Simplicissimus vydany v roce 1668 (s datem 1669) se do kanonu svetove literatury zapsal jako pikareskni roman. Jednim z duvodu, proc tato kniha dokaze oslovit ctenare i po vice nez 300 letech od sveho vzniku, je bezpochyby obdivuhodna vYznamova hloubka a dejova pest rost dfla, jez u ctenare muze navodit dojem neprebernosti a mnohoznacnosti autorem pouzitych prvku. Tato diplomova prace se zabyva kompozicnimi principy uplatnujicfmi se v teto knize. I kdyz se v dnesni dobe v praxi jiz mnohdy osvedcila uzitecnost pristupu naratologickeho, k nemuz vytvoril predevsim G. Genette prakticke instrumentarium, a tento pristup by se mohl nabizet i zde, ma prace se od nej vedome odklanf. Po strucne zmfnce starsfch pokusu 0 uchopeni domnele tektonicke struktury Simplicissima a nastinu nejdulezitejsich tendenci vyzkumu v nazfranf tohoto dfla byla formulovana zdejsf vYchozf pozice. Hlavnf vychodisko spocfvalo v uvaze, ze metoda analyzy by se mela prizpusobit zkoumanemu, ne naopak.
