The development of television humor in the 21st century and the series The Office as a turning point in this development
Laboutka, Tomáš ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Šuhajová, Klára (referee)
This thesis focuses on the origins of The Office, characterises the comedy series that preceded its creation, and examines the show's influence on later mockumentaries. The main link between the chapters is the phenomenon of humour and its treatment by the sub-genre of mockumentary. The aim of the thesis is to define the differences between The Office and other selected comedy series and to identify how The Office, as a watershed in comedy, influenced later mockumentary work. The thesis examines three separate influences; the influence on the genre of comedy, the influence on narrative style and the influence on the treatment of social issues. The main methods used to achieve the stated aim are observation, comparison and content analysis. Among the most important results of the thesis is the finding that The Office series had a revolutionary effect on the concept of the comedy genre, as it broke away from the established formula of 1990s television comedy series, which mainly relied on humour in the form of traditional jokes. The Office works primarily with awkward situational humor. The popularisation of the mockumentary sub-genre, which was the driving force behind The Office, brought a more pronounced use of its distinctive elements into later work, which influenced the way the creators...
Analysis of product placement in Czech films from 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022
Holan, Ondřej ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to confirm the assumption that with the advent of streaming services, Czech filmmakers will be forced to use product placement more often to increase their budgets after many viewers will go to the cinema less often. It was assumed that the products would be shown in the films in connection with the main character, who would actively use the item for a long time. The defined period for the research was between 2010 to 2022 in order to examine the effect of the enactment of product placement in Czech law and also to examine the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the film industry. The given time span was divided into five consecutive periods each three-years apart. Due to the number of films planned for analysis, the method of quantitative content analysis was used. A significant number of hypotheses have not been confirmed. Only the assumptions that there will be a noticeable increase in the frequency of product placement, an increase in the frequency of unique brands, an increase in the percentage ratio of dominant shot to the remaining shots, and a higher frequency of unique brands in films with lower budgets have been confirmed. The main reasons for the non-confirmation of hypotheses include a small research sample, comparing several periods at once, the situation...

It is now one of the most successful series produced by Netflix, also on the social network TikTok the #heartstopper hashtag reached trillions of views. The third television part and the fifth part of the graphic novel are currently being prepared. In this work, I want to focus on the series, and specifically how viewers of the LGBTQ+ community perceive the series. The main goal will be to find out if the series in any way affects their lives and the concept of relationships and if it had an effect on their attitudes towards the majority society judging the LGBTQ+ minority and other stuff. For this finding, I will use qualitative analysis and a form of in-depth interviews with viewers of the series who identify as queer. The main areas that I would like to focus on are a) the relationship of the viewer to individualism, b) the relationship to the LGBTQ+ community, c) the perception of oneself as queer in the majority society.

In the following, i.e. second chapter, I will deal with Czech programmes, while in the third chapter, foreign programmes will get their own space. The fourth chapter will be devoted to the media image of childbirth as such, both in domestic and foreign media.
