Dissecting the effects of salicylic acid on redox balance in plant cells using biochemical and fluorescent imaging techniques
Růžičková, Gabriela ; Burketová, Lenka (advisor) ; Janda, Martin (referee)
Topic of bachelor thesis is plant immunity, specifically it focuses on salicylic acid, reactive oxygen species, it also analyses hox salicylic acid effects formation of reactive oxygen species and which proteins are involved in this biosynthesis. Also in this thesis is described basic methods for measuring of reactive oxygen species, what are advantages, disadvantages, how they work and what they can be used for. Salicylic acid is one of phytohormones involved in immune reaction in plant defence, this thesis is describing salicylic acid signalling, associated proteins and overall effect on plant. Reactive oxygen species have wide framework of action in organisms, they can be called double-edged sword, they can help plant, but also, they can harm depending on their concentration and regulation of their forming, the problem of their quenching is also described in this thesis - their formation, antioxidants, effect on plant immunity. Chapter about measuring methods is divide into three parts - fluorescence methods, chemiluminescence methods and spectrophotometric (histochemical) methods. Key words: salicylic acid, reactive oxygen species, plant immunity, plant stress, phytohormones
Social Network from the Perspective of Surveillance Theory
Janda, Martin ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Fišer, Josef (referee)
The paper concentrates on the general trend of extending the surveillance as it is nicely captured in the case of online social network Facebook. The text emphasized the omnipresence and hidden techniques used for mining of personal data, as depicted on the phenomenon of consumer surveillance. Data kept in the in databases create a virtual image of an individual that subsequently replaces him in the cyberspace, which leads to discrimination of the individual due to an unequal access to products and information. On introducing the surveillant assemblage the paper shows how the modern surveillance has multiple sources and its object can be anyone who is browsing the internet. Main source for the analysis are the works of Surveillance Studies, most prominently the Canadian sociologist David Lyon. The work centers on defining what part of social sciences field in the age of IT technologies occupies the panopticon - the key concept of surveillance studies - and what new aspects of surveillance are appearing in the society thanks to the development of internet and especially the social networks.
Comparison of pension systems in Czechia and Denmark
Janda, Martin ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Klapková, Michaela (referee)
Comparison of pension systems in Czechia and Denmark Abstract The main of thesis is to contribute to discussion on pension systems and their reforms with a focus on Czechia and Denmark. The Danish pension system is considered as the best in the world, that means it could serve as a model for the reform of the Czech pension system. The paper describes the general types of pension systems used worldwide and in more detail Czech and Danish pension systems. The second part introduces the expected population development of both countries in 2080 according to the projection EUROPOP 2013. In the analytical part of the paper are used two different models to calculated potential numbers of pensioners in 2075 and subsequently old dependency ratio. Both of models suggest a higher old dependency ratio in Czechia than Denmark.
Tree-ring chronology of Norway spruce, a study from the Eastern Krkonoše Mts.
Janda, Martin ; Treml, Václav (advisor) ; Kolář, Tomáš (referee)
3 ABSTRACT Presented thesis is focused on the development of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) dendrochronologic standard for the high elevation zone of the Eastern Krkonoše Mts.. Samples were taken from individuals growing either in supramontane forest or in the treeline ecotone. Additional increment cores were sampled in old cottages and chalets. Various elements of roof constructions and timbering were the source of dendrochronologic material. Aim of the thesis was to develop long and reliable tree-ring chronology using standardisation techniques which retain also lower frequency climate variations. Two standard tree-ring chronologies were developed - first using double detrending standardisation (DD, 1792-2006), second using regional curve standardisation (RCS, 1811- 1970). Analyzed historic material significantly differs from tree-ring curves derived from standing trees, thus achieving the composite chronology was impossible. Cottage no. 9 in Svoboda nad Úpou is with its origin after AD 1711 outstanding among thirteen successfully dated historic buildings. Both RCS even DD chronologies retain lower frequency variations. DD chronology can be successfully used in events and some buildings dating. Response function analysis was made using monthly instrumental records from the Sněžka meteorological...
Information laundering: fake news websites in czech context
Janda, Martin ; Slussareff, Michaela (advisor) ; Šisler, Vít (referee)
The thesis follows up a topic of fake news within the borders of Czech Republic. This frequently discussed phenomena is often linked to the pro-Kremlin propaganda, whose aim is to evoke fear across the citizens, as well as raise distrust towards reigning authorities, western institutions, a functionality of liberal democracy and at last but not least - distrust towards public media and mainstream media in general. This is being achieved by production of fake news, also known as fictive, false or manipulative articles, that are being spread through the social media. Despite its low credibility the news often make their way into the public discussion, forming the general opinion and as a result affecting many political decisions. In order to follow this topic up further, I will put in use the Adam Klein's concept, also known as information laundering. This concept describes the ways how these hateful articles, personal opinions and straight up false news are getting legitimised within the online world and subsequently spread through the social media under the disguise of respectable journalism. The thesis is aiming to map out the entire sphere of fake news media, its websites and Facebook and YouTube social profiles as well as describe individual aspects of the entire mechanism using quantitative analysis. In...
Education in selected african countries
Janda, Martin ; Váňová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Leontovyčová, Jana (referee)
In the first part of my thesis I attend to the basic types of education, which are now proceeding in the modern Africa. I mention five basic types of education, that are adherent to African continent. In the next part of my work I focus on each single African land and lay the biggest stress on the history, presence and eventually future of the local education. In detail I deal with educational levels and history, which refers to education. There is not so much specialized literature about the educational system in Africa ant that is why I would like to create a basic brief compendium of educational system in the African lands and facilitate other people to learn more about this topic collectively in one publication. I have been cooperated with the embassies of the African lands, government departments and with clerical and international organizations.
