The individual and community in the early novels of George Eliot
Horváth, Juraj ; Procházka, Martin (advisor) ; Beran, Zdeněk (referee)
In my work I focus on George Eliot's 3 early novels: Adam Bede, The Mill on the Floss and Silas Marner. I have analyzed the relations between the individual and community using the pair of concepts Gemeinschaft (community) and Gesellschaft (society). I have not used the concepts to label the stages in the evolutionary progress of mankind, but rather as labels of sets of characteristics. The Gemeinschaft set of values includes the traditional values like keeping one's word, respect to elders, deference to class, family ties etc. The Gesellschaft, on the other hand, is in my reading foremostly defined by self-centredness and egoism. The symptom of these qualities in Eliot's view was a day-dreaming lack of interest in reality. The community awakens the self-centred individuals to a sense of extramental reality and sympathizing moral breadth of vision. In spite of the cruel means this process is brought about, it ultimately makes Eliot's characters more sympathizing, wiser and more humane.

Three Essays on Local Public Finance
Šťastná, Lenka ; Turnovec, František (advisor) ; Dušek, Libor (referee) ; Horvath, Julius (referee) ; Pavel, Jan (referee)
Three Essays on Local Public Finanace Lenka Šťastná Abstract The dissertation studies spending decisions of local governments. It consists of three parts; theoretical model is developed in the first part and empirical analyses of Czech municipalities of extended scope are presented in the other two parts. The theoretical model analyzes whether it is beneficial to decentralize policy decision-making when local public goods in two symmetric regions are complements. Strategic delegation when a voter intentionally votes for a politician whose preferences do not coincide with those of the voter and in-kind transfers, used to support local public goods production in the other region, are allowed. According to Oates' decentralization theorem, centralization pareto-dominates decentralization for symmetric regions regardless level of spillovers. However, for complementary public goods and when strategic delegation and in-kind transfers are considered, the tradeoff may be exactly opposite and decentralization may pareto-dominate centralization. The second part aims to test fiscal interaction among local governments in the Czech Republic which can be driven by spillover effects, competition, mimicking, or cooperation. Spatial dependence of local public spending (i.e. whether spending decisions in neighboring...

The effect of σ-phase formation on long-term durability of SUPER 304H steel
Horváth, J. ; Král, Petr ; Janovec, J. ; Sklenička, Václav
This work presents results of the analysis of phases formed in a SUPER 304H steel during a medium-term static isothermal ageing (675 degrees C/15000 h). The investigations of the precipitates were especially focused on the occurrence of sigma-phase because its formation leads to the serious embrittlement. \nThe evaluation and distribution of brittle sigma-phase were determined on macroscopic level by using light microscopy/colour etching. The microstructure was also investigated on microscopic level by scanning electron microscopes Tescan Lyra 3 and JEOL JSM 5410 equipped by electron backscatter diffraction unit and by transmission electron microscope Jeol 2100F. This work also investigates the effect of sigma-phase formation on the impact strength of an aged state of SUPER 304H steel. For comparison reasons the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the initial as-received) state were also investigated. It was found that the formation of brittle sigma-phase in the aged and therefore degraded microstructure led to the significant decrease of the impact strength. The influence of brittle sigma-phase on long-term durability of the degraded steel regarding its insufficient impact strength is discussed.

Financial analysis of the company Karlovarská Korunní s.r.o.
Horváth, Jiří ; Špička, Jindřich (advisor) ; Špaček, Martin (referee)
The Bachelor thesis is devoted to financial analysis of the company Karlovarská Korunní s.r.o. The goal of the thesis is to evaluate the overall financial position of the company between the years 2008 to 2012 from the perspective of a minority shareholder. The company's annual reports were used as the main source of information. All of the applied methods are described in detail in the theoretical part of the thesis. The practical part then then applies these methods on Karlovarská Korunní s.r.o in order to evaluate the company's financial health. The methods of financial analysis used in the thesis include vertical and horizontal analysis, application of financial ratios, and evaluation of economical value added, evaluation of working capital, bankruptcy and creditworthiness models or comparison with competitors. The end part of the thesis summarizes the retrieved information.
Political Aspects of Migration in Czech Republic and in Slovakia
Štefančík, Radoslav ; Klíma, Michal (advisor) ; Horváth, Július (referee) ; Drbohlav, Dušan (referee) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
The central hypothesis of this dissertation is based on the finding that, like in the countries of Western Europe under the influence of various circumstances, in the Czech Republic, too, there is a shift from the originally proclaimed multicultural concept of integration towards individual civic integration. The objective of the treatise is not only to verify the anticipated trend in the development of the migration policy, but also to seek causes of its modification. The formulation of a hypothesis that would apply equally to the Czech Republic and Slovakia was more complicated. While the formation of migration policies in the area of integration of immigrants into an autochthonous society enjoys a longer tradition in the Czech Republic -- also due to the higher number of immigrants -- in Slovakia it is in its beginnings so far. Even some of the recently adopted outcomes of public policy proclaimed the objective to implement the multicultural dimension vis-a-vis foreigners. The actual policies, however, bore witness to a completely different approach. The core hypothesis of this treatise has thus been complemented by a subhypothesis relating to the conditions of Slovakia: the multicultural dimension of the approach to immigrants in the past only existed at a theoretical level, and only partially. Given the recent adoption of the concept of integration policy, which is not based on the principles of multiculturalism, references to it represent a residual manifestation of the preceding non-systematic treatment of migration and integration in the outcomes of public policy. In real life, several steps hindering the application of this model's principles have been undertaken. Content analysis and diachronic comparative method applied on the documents under review show that there is a change occurring in the Czech Republic in the area of immigration policies. Whereas prior to the financial crisis the government would willingly employ foreigners, the impact of the crisis has led it to a restrictive immigration policy. Demonstrated was also a content shift in the approach to the integration of foreigners. As regards the formation of Slovak migration policies, the process of policy development proved to be more complicated to follow. Public policies in the area of migration and integration of foreigners since 2009 and the stance of the governmental bodies towards them have been largely indifferent. The Czech Republic clearly displays, over the course of the past several years, a shift from the communitarian/multicultural model toward the individual civic integration. The command of the language is considered to be the main vehicle of integration. The Slovak Republic declared multiculturalism only as a remnant of the non-systematic treatment of integration policies, with virtually nothing changing in the real life of immigrants. There had been practically no integration policy in Slovakia up to 2009. Similarly to the outcomes of public policies, the shift in the perspectives on migration away from multiculturalism has occurred in the political programs of Czech political parties as well. The issue of migration in Slovakia has so far not affected election campaigning. Slovak political parties do not have a clear idea of the possibilities of related to the integration of immigrants.
