ODA as an actor in the formation of the right and Czech conservatism
Brožová, Karolina ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
The thesis deals with the formation of the Czech conservative right with the Civic Democratic Alliance in the leading role. It describes how the party participated in the transformation of the political system and describes its most significant moments. Since the germs of right-wing thinking can be found in the communist environment, the thesis also captures the risks that this entailed at the time. The aim is also to capture the party's profiling on the political ground, so its basic political themes and electoral programmes, which were often difficult to grasp in political practice, will be portrayed. It therefore focuses not only on the party's achievements in a relatively short time interval, but also on the affairs that have had an impact on the party. From the first to the second section, the thesis discusses party theory, party families, and the two core ideologies that initially inspired the founders of the Civic Democratic Alliance in detail. The theoretical framework thus helps to understand the principles on which the party operated and the programmatic values it drew upon. From the third section onwards, the thesis analyses the Civic DemocraticAlliance in detail. It concludes by answering the main goals of conservatism and how this ideology took shape. It also assesses the role of the Civic...
Individualist or Communitarian? A study of the Presidential Campaign of Petr Pavel
Tichý, František ; Halamka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of Peter Pavel's inclination towards individualism or communitarianism during his presidential campaign in the period from 6 September 2022 to 27 January 2023. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with the bases of individualism and communitarianism, their terminology, conceptualisation and use. On the basis of the studied literature, it then links these terms in, to a certain extent, innovative way to the political spectrum, instead of using other terms with which they are more usually associated. Since it does not find a coherent conceptualization of individualism and communitarianism in the literature, it creates its own conceptualization at the boundary between the theoretical and the practical part of the thesis. This conceptualization and knowledge acquired in the theoretical part is subsequently operationalized and a methodology is created, with the help of which it is possible to determine the inclination of politicians or public figures towards individualism or communitarianism. In the practical part, it then carries out a content analysis of statements made by Petr Pavel in his election program and in debates on the three largest Czech TV stations, i.e. Czech Television, TV Nova and Prima, which he participated in before the first and second...
Synodal process from the perspective of participatory innovations
Bernard, Tomáš ; Guasti, Petra (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
This thesis deals with the synodal process and democratic innovation. The main research objective is to determine whether the current synodal process, which began in 2021, can be described as a democratic innovation, specifically deliberative mini-publics, as it is a groundbreaking process that has been made available to all members of the Catholic Church for the first time in history. The research is based primarily on the theory of political scientist Archon Fung, who has written extensively on deliberative mini-publics. The thesis asks two main research questions. The first addresses whether, according to official Catholic Church materials describing the synodal process at the grassroots level, this process can be described as a deliberative mini-public. The research also selected two case studies focusing on two different parishes where the synodal process took place. The second research question was then answered by analyzing these two parishes to examine the fulfillment of selected design criteria of deliberative mini-publics. Based on the processed results of the analysis, it can be concluded that a level of fulfillment of the design elements was achieved such that the synodal process at the grassroots level was identified as a DMP. However, in answering the second research question, the...
Conservatism as a political ideology in Czech left-wing parties
Novotný, Jáchym ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
This master thesis focuses on conservatism as a political ideology in Czech left-wing parties. The aim of the thesis is to answer several research questions. The most important one is whether elements of conservative ideology appear in the programs and other materials of selected Czech left-wing political parties. Subsequent questions build on the first one, aiming to determine in which periods conservatism appears in the programs and other materials of the examined parties and whether these parties deliberately seek to overcome the differences between conservatism and socialism, or whether they simply accept elements of conservatism that are not in conflict with left-wing ideologies. These questions are answered through content analysis of the programs and other materials of three political parties: the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM), and the Left. In addition to the analysis of programs and other materials, the thesis also includes a theoretically oriented chapter that deals with the individual political ideologies under study and their directions or branches. In conclusion, it is stated that elements of conservatism appear in the programs of all three analyzed parties, with clearly the fewest identified in the programs and other materials...

Injection locked ring oscillator design for application in Direct Time of Flight LIDAR
Fránek, Jakub ; Háze, Jiří (referee) ; Kledrowetz, Vilém (advisor)
Diplomová práce přibližuje systémy LIDAR přímo měřící čas průletu a časově digitální převodníky určené k použití v těchto systémech. Oscilátor poskytuje specifikované časové rozlišení 50 pikosekund a dosahuje dvakrát nižší hodnoty fázového neklidu než ekvivalentní volnoběžný oscilátor v dané technologii.
Integrated temperature sensor bipolar core

Empty Shells. Three Tales on the Relativization of the Axiological Core of Democracy
Horák, Filip ; Franěk, Jakub (advisor) ; Salamon, Janusz (referee)
Empty Shells. Three Tales on the Relativization of the Axiological Core of Democracy - Abstract JUDr. Bc. Filip Horák The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the problem of gradual softening of the democratic political system's axiological core. Firstly, the thesis illustrates the problem via three tales narrated by Carl Schmitt, Hannah Arendt and Leo Strauss, who in a very similar manner critically analyzed the "axiological leap" leading to the disintegration of fundamental values and principles of democracy. Secondly, the thesis offers a new methodological approach combining empirical functional analysis of the individual values constituting democracy's axiological core (i.e. equality, liberty, justice and dignity) with a teleological approach focusing on the original purposes and functions of these values. Using functional analysis, the thesis examines possible interpretations and functions of the aforementioned values and shows that all of them evince a high degree of vagueness and ambiguity, which makes them so-called "empty shells" that can be filled with almost any content, meaning or function. This is also the main cause of the disintegration of the democracy's axiological core. Thirdly, the thesis theoretically reconstructs the original and stable axiological core using teleological approach....
Political Thought of Czechoslovak Dissidents in the Years 1977 - 1993
Švehlová, Veronika ; Halamka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
The diploma thesis entitled The Political Thought of Czechoslovak Dissidents in the Years 1977 - 1993 examines the political thought of three representatives of Czechoslovak dissent, Rudolf Battek, Václav Havel and Václav Benda. The main aim is to find out whether the Czechoslovak dissent included political thinking and came up with its own constructive theories on the ideal state system or whether it was limited to criticism of the contemporary regime. In terms of methodology, the thesis works with textual analysis of primary sources of three selected dissidents. Based on the textual analysis, it concludes by using a comparative method to compare and integrate the political thought of the selected dissidents with a focus on a better or ideal arrangement of the future state. The thesis concludes that the analyzed representatives of Czechoslovak dissent, in addition to criticizing the regime, also focused on political thinking and searched for a future state organization. Political thought and theories of a successful state were not their primary concern and do not represent a systematic positive theory. Their political thinking was based on their overall philosophical ideas and the context of their critique of the communist regime in contemporary Czechoslovakia. They do not call their ideas...
