The Aetheticisation of Czech Political Communication after 1993
Hájek, Roman ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
Aestheticization belongs to a group of interrelated concepts which try to describe and explain current changes in political communication. The theoretical part of this thesis incorporates the notion of "aestheticization" into the context of considerations of political communication, and then - based on an analysis of its conceptualizations in aesthetic theories, critical social theories and political philosophy - it proposes its determination useful for media studies. The aim of the empirical part of this thesis is to examine the hypothesis about aesthetization of political communication in case of media content. We base this on Wolfgang Welsch's distinction between surface and deep-structure aestheticization. Using quantitative content analysis we examine changes in media coverage of five Czech general elections (i. e. the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic between 1996 and 2010) in two Czech dailies Právo and Mladá fronta Dnes. While we have not proved the surface aestheticization, some inclinations towards deep-structure aestheticization have been noticed. Nevertheless, these results raise doubts about appropriateness of the content analysis as a methodological tool for researching aestheticization. As an outcome of this discussion we make some...
Work of Czech Radio Council between 1992 and 2002
Hájek, Roman ; Trunečková, Ludmila (referee) ; Moravec, Václav (advisor)
According to the Czech law Czech Radio Council is the body through which the public excercises their right to control public service medium. Thesis Work of Czech Radio Council between 1992 and 2002 analyzes the operation of this supervisory authority in the first decade of its existence. Two basic approaches are applied. The first one is the quantitative analysis of the agenda of the Czech Radio Council. Based on research of the records from the Council meetings, the analysis divides the issues discussed by the Council into ten basic cathegories that are then quantified and compared. However, use of the above method necessarily leads to considerable standardization of the input data. Numeric outcome is therefore combined with historical interpretation that introduces factual operation of the Council and presents it in the context of integral functioning of the Czech Radio. Based on these two approaches the thesis provides a concept of periodization of the Czech Radio Council operation between 1992 and 2002. The text attempts to apprehend the Czech Radio Council in broader context of the development of public service broadcasting and its control, and also in the context of media system transformation in Central Europe after 1989.

Press that serves the public? Survey of journals published by Prague's municipalities
Písačková, Kateřina ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Krobová, Tereza (referee)
This master thesis deals with the phenomenon of journals published by local municipalities, defined in a recent amendment to the Press Act in the legal order of the Czech Republic as "journals of territorial administrative units". According to the press law the purpose of these journals is to deliver information about the self- governing unit while providing adequate space for presenting opinions and views of all ideological spectrum of the local council. These journals were recently criticized for being abused by the ruling political representation and being misused as a form of political PR rather than an independent news platform. My research is focused on their gradual professionalization that was recently encouraged by the changes in the Czech law. The research is based on a survey of editors of these journals. In the survey I investigated the background of the content production of these journals, various aspects of their organization, details about staff editors and their reflection on the topic, as well as control mechanisms that are set to ensure the statutory requirements of objectivity and impartiality. In addition to the survey, I also present a brief case study of the Hobulet magazine, published in the Prague 7 district, which is considered to be a progressive example of the genre. The...
Activities of Agrofert holding covered by Mladá fronta Dnes and Lidové noviny before and after their takeover by Andrej Babiš
Havlová, Laura ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Němeček, Tomáš (referee)
Exploration of the influences that an owner can have on his own media is an important topic nowadays. This master thesis focuses on the possible owner influences on his newspaper in the example of buying of the publishing house Mafra by Agrofert's owner Andrej Babis. It covers articles concerning Agrofert in two of Mafra's dailies - Mlada fronta Dnes and Lidove noviny. The reporting period covers two years before and two years after the purchase of Mafra by the owner of Agrofert and the current Czech Minister of Finance Andrej Babis. This covers the dates 5. 6. 2011 - 24. 6. 2013 and 25. 6. 2013 - 24. 6. 2015. This thesis uses the processes of quantitative content analysis and focuses on the comparison of texts about Agrofert in these two periods. In the sample of 631 articles it examines two dozen categories, such as topic, placement on the page as well as in the daily itself or quotation of Andrej Babis, and it tracks the changes that occurred in both halves of the reporting period. The shift in content of the Mafra's media, after the change of its owner has not been largely examined yet. This means that this thesis brings a first complex insight into the topic. This thesis aims to cover the changes that occurred in the reporting period and paves the way for more specific following researches....
Sound emission directivity model
Zdvyhal, Marian ; Hájek, Roman (referee) ; Hejčík, Jiří (advisor)
This diploma thesis solves creation of a computing model of sound propagation for determination of acoustic pressure level around multiple point sound source with consideration of sound directivity of each source (compresor and fan). Thesis contains neccesary theoretical knowledge for creation of computing model and basics of sound measuring, theoretical computing model, measurement data of real unit and model configuration for real measured values. Computing code of the model in Visual Basic for MS Excel is a part of the thesis.
