Adolescents perception of the television advertising

This thesis named Adolescents' Perception of Television Advertisement is an analysis of the relationship between the television advertisement and the chosen target audience - adolescents at the age of 17 - 20. The thesis examines to what extent the television advertising contributes to forming an image of the world in the members of the target audience and asks whether the advertising pressure focused on the target audience is effective or whether the adolescents are able to think critically and indipendently and to create their own opinion on the proposed and explored issue. The introduced thesis is devided in two parts - practical and analytical. The first one is primarily based on findings gained form relevant literature and the sedondone presents the process and results of the very quantitative research. The main aim of this thesis is to find out what is the overall attitude of adolescents at the age of 17 - 20 towards the television advertisement and to give evidence whether they believe the informatik presented in the TV advertising. The White House Presents: The Media Image of Barack Obama

The diploma thesis The White House Presents: The Media Image of Barack Obama examines the media presentation of the President of the United States, Barack Obama, through the official media channel of the White House. Five video recordings of President Obama's speeches are analyzed with a focus on linguistic, visual and auditory sign systems with the use of the qualitative semiotic content analysis. Before the analysis itself, an explanation of theoretical terms related mostly to the representation of reality is provided. On these grounds the analysis is then approached as a description of different means of achieving media construction of reality, to which both the President himself and the White House Office of Communications contribute. This Office is in charge of the content of the above-mentioned channel. To broaden the context, general information about the functioning of the President's media communication is included. The aim of this thesis is an interpretation of the communication tools presented by the White House media channel and the analysis of their symbolic meaning in order to explicate the process of a specific media image of the President coming into existence. Analysis of the Czech and American News Coverage of the 2008 Presidential Elections in the U.S. and American President

The diploma thesis "Analysis of the Czech and American News Coverage of the 2008 Presidential Elections in the U.S. and American President" examined if American press, represented by The New Your Times, is influencing the coverage of presidential candidates in Czech press, which is represented by Mladá fronta DNES and Hospodářské noviny. The examination is based on the example of presidential race in 2008 in USA. The aim of the research is if there are signs of international two-step flow in Czech press. The second part of the research is focused on so called honeymoon effect in Czech press on the example of news Coverage of President Barack Obama in his first term in office. The quantitative content analysis showed that there are similar features in the coverage of presidential race in Czech and American press. The investigation also showed that Czech press is more positive in the coverage of Barrack Obama at the beginning of his first term in office and this positivity declined in the second year.
The media image of pope Francis in the czech daily press

Pope Francis, who was elected 13th March, 2013 after the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict XVI., became in a short time one of the world's most popular leaders ever because of his behavior and demeanor. Also world mass media played a big part in it as Pope Francis became a very important media personality. Also he contributed heavily to this fact by using the media intensively himself. He continues in the footsteps of his predecessors, he extensively uses all the media possibilities he can reach and since becoming the Pope he collaborates with a team of media experts who successfully help with his communication strategy. This master thesis titled "Media image of Pope Francis in Czech Daily Press" and it attempts to capture the person of Pope Francis and the reasons for his success and general popularity and to outline how much medialized he actually is in our country, which ranks amongst the secularized states. The pivotal part of the text therefore constitutes of the quantitative content analysis, which focuses on the media coverage of the Pope in the four most widely read Czech Daily Press (MF Dnes, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny and Právo) and thus try to interpret his media image, of how Czech society might perceive him.
Emotion expressed in public space communication

This study focuses on the internet as a public space and explores the emotionality of this area. It is also approached as a case study which investigates the relationship between emotionality and commercialization. In the theoretical part, the concept of the public space and especially its changes that came with the internet and social networks is specified for the reader, to provide a general overview essential to the results of this work. Furthermore, the theme of the communication via internet is defined and the identification of emotions in media communication is explained in the theoretical part. The practical part analyses in which intensity the mass media use the tools of the expressibility on their facebook profiles. These mass media were purposely chosen, one being commercial and the next one the public service television, whose function is to support the social cohesiveness and to cultivate the language. The representatives are television TV Nova and radio Rádio Impuls as the commercial media, television Česká televize and radio Český rozhlas as the public service media. The findings of this thesis provide the insight into the issues and point out the difficult position of the public service media on the social networks.
Luxury lifestyle newspaper supplements in the Czech republic

The diploma thesis observes the phenomenon of Czech journal attachements of luxury character in particular supplements ZEN, City Life, Esprit and Proč ne?! These are published together with daily press E15, MF Dnes, Lidové Noviny a Hospodářské noviny. In the theoretical part is first outlined the development of lifestyle magazines and classical daily attachments, because examined supplements are kind of combination of both these media products. The next chapter deals with the media content from the political as well as economical communication, which covertly affects media by means of advertising and public relations and thus shape public opinion according to their own interests. In the end the theoretical part focuses also on definition of advertisement and public relations. The goal of the practical part is to research using the semiotic analysis how the ideology of success is presented to readers, which is in general an attribute of political as well as economical elites. The diploma thesis deals with the media heroization / construction of dead celebrity icons. The introduction focuses on the explanation of the process of becoming an icon and its interpretation in certain fields and theoretical concepts, for example in the context of semiotics and sociology. A separate chapter is devoted to the role of media in the process. I attempt to reveal the media's influence on this process by studying the theory of media construction of reality and the ctreation of culture industry. The second chapter also explains the phenomenon of celebritization, which is crucial due to the applied example of dead celebrities. Based on the specific analysis I try to identify trends that are reflected in media representation of dead celebrities afterlife, and these further put in a wider context. The aim of the master thesis is to find out what trends are reflected in media representation of celebrities after their death, how the media work to maintain dead celebrities "alive", and what are the specifics of this "life". The content analysis was determined to show the character of media coverage. The semiotic analysis on the other hand to show what myths are constructed around the famous dead celebrities.

This master thesis Advertisements in Textbooks: A New Medium? covers the field of school textbooks for primary and secondary schools. Its aim is to analyse advertisements, which have become part of some textbooks. The thesis is also examining if the advertisements are in compliance with the Czech law. The project contains descriptive analysis of the found advertisements. It also comprises statements by the textbook publishers and by the Ministry of Education.
Methanol affair in the czech media

This thesis deals with the medialization of public health-threatening events associated with the methanol affair, which appeared in Czech republic in September 2012. The thesis examines the ways in which selected four national newspapers informed the public about that case. The theoretical part presents concepts through which it is possible to look at the functioning of the media - their role in society, patterns and routine ways of media production, their role in case of emergencies and crises. Analytical part first outlines the methodological basis and consequently represents the outputs of quantitative and qualitative research. The quantitative part mainly describes how much space was in the examined newspapers provided with the affair, what kind of sub-themes were most accented, how much importance was over time attributed to the affair, what the motives were displayed in the published photographs, to what extent was preserved news neutrality of published headlines. The qualitative part of the research focuses on the linguistic tools used in articles in term of neutrality, on non-verbal expression tools and in detail illustrates how the examined newspapers reported about specific events associated with the methanol affair.
Historical development of media didactics and its scope in the Czech Republic

The main goal of the thesis is to describe the development and the extent of media didactics in the Czech republic. The authors who examine media pedagogy are PhDr. Jan Mašek, Ph.D. a Mgr. Zdeněk Sloboda. The subject of the thesis is to clarify the concept of media didactics. This is important for the formation of historical development of the use of media during the teaching and for highlight the importance of media during the teaching and teaching with the use of media. Finally, the thesis try to find out the effects and the extent of tablets in the czech education system. By using quantitative questionnaire research was examined 200 teachers of primary schools, secondary schools and grammar schools. Based on the acquired data is possible to answer predetermined research questions: How widespread is the use of tablets during the teaching? What is the opinion of teachers to use tablets during the teaching? Does the use of tablets during the teaching influence the effectiveness of the teaching?
