Aesthetics of Oscar Wilde
Král, Robin ; Jarošová, Helena (referee) ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor)
The bachelor thesis The Aesthetics of Oscar Wilde deals with the character and development of aesthetic considerations of a major English writer, thinker and dandy of the second half of the nineteenth century. It describes the influences of the texts of J. Ruskin, W. Morris, W. Pater and J. M. Whistler on Wilde's thought. Then it presents in terms of aesthetics the most important texts and topics of Wilde's. Based on the analysis of these texts the author arrives at the description of several characteristic concepts of Wilde's aesthetics and describes the development of Wilde's thought dividing it into four stages: Early stage in which Wilde focuses primarily on preaching of the social benefit of art. Next stage in which Wilde promotes the autonomy of art and epistemic priority of art forms to natural forms. Stage in which Wilde explores the advantages of interpretative critical spirit of aesthetic contemplation and finally a stage in which Wilde formulates the ideal of spiritual self-realization of the individual after the fashion of an artwork.
The theory of echoeness. On Patočka's philosophy of art
Borecký, Felix ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee) ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor)
The study is focused on the aesthetic theory which Patočka outlines in his work Writer and his object and calls it "the theory of echoeness". It is an original insight into the essence of literature of modern time. In Writer, despite of being a concise sketch, the theory contains vast potency. Our interpretation unfolds this potency into broader context of Patočka's late thinking (asubjective ontology of natural world, the conception of three movements, conception of history and conception of language). The aim of this work is a critical analysis of the theory of echoeness considering its pros and cons. Daily routine such as working, being concerned for relatives and friends, paying accounts, satisfying vegetative needs, strong emotional experiences, indifference, misunderstanding and affinity, joy, death. This is only a poor enumeration of of life's preocupations of man. All these life's intentions which man puts into the world by giving it its sense, are mostly nonreflected. They feature in the world as echoes and are nutrient material for writer. It is writer himself who observes and collects these echoes and by means of language turns their directions. In ordinary life the intentions are non-reflected and focused on particular sense. But in literature they are focused on the whole sense. Reader can...

Peštová, Karolína ; Ševčík, Miloš (referee) ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor)
This diploma thesis treats of the video art of the 1960s and 70s from four points of view: in chapter one the artistic and technological genesis of video art is analyzed; chapter two is dedicated to a scholarly analysis of video art on whose basis the relation of video art to other arts is determined (especially film and fine art), the chapter, furthermore, examines the properties of video as a medium; chapter three deals with the reception of video art by the audience, its mode of depiction and aesthetic properties which are demonstrated on specific examples; the final chapter is dedicated to feminist video art whose task it was to help emancipate women. The aim of the thesis is to present a comprehensive overview of early video art with emphasis on its artistic and aesthetic properties. The thesis does not merely rest on valid scholarly theories - it also analyzes specific art pieces which are documented in an extensive graphic appendix.
Artist as a gender related issue: gender stereotypes in aesthetics
Šlaufová, Markéta ; Ševčík, Miloš (referee) ; Heczková, Libuše (advisor)
The Thesis Artist as a Gender Related Issue: Gender Stereotypes in Aesthetics considers the problem of gender stereotypes included in aesthetic theories and concepts which are often used in Aesthetics. Gender (as a social construct of sex) functions as a deep factor in all theories of art, art production and artist. The problematic connotations of masculinity and femininity aren't based on the facts but on stereotypes; significant is the example of the myth that man is "creative", woman is "procreative". All of these gender related stereotypes lead to the fact that art and artist are usually seen as a male domain. That is why a reflection of Aesthetics from the feminist point of view is needed, to help to destroy the barriers that still remain in art and aesthetic theories.
Semiotic interpretation of Kant's aesthetics
Šlerka, Josef ; Ševčík, Miloš (referee) ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor)
The Semiotic lnterpretation of Kanťs Aesthetics deals with the relations between Peirce's serniotic concepts and some aspects of Kant' s philosophy and aesthetics. The first part, named Peirce And His Philosophy, presents basic terms and concepts of Peirce's philosophy. The second part, named Kanťs aesthetics, identifies some mutual elements of Peirce's and Kanťs approach. Therefore it interprets some basic concepts of Kanťs philosophy and aesthetics as semiotic, namely it tries to define the concept of beauty and sublimity by means of Peirce's distinction of icon and index. In the following analysis the text focuses on the aspect of subjectivation and sensuality in the experience of beauty and sublimity. Finally, the third part, named The Leve/s of Thought, shows that this interpretation belongs to a wider context of human thought levels based on the axes of the irrational/rational and absurdity/active skepticism.
Ontogical conceptions of picture
Sajvera, David ; Zuska, Vlastimil (referee) ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor)
Tato práce podává interpretaci dvou odlišných pojetí obrazu. Oba autoři byli výrazně ovlivněni fenomenologickou filozofií Edmunda Husserla a ontologií Martina Heideggera.
The Role of Imagination in Aesthetic Experience in Mikel Dufrenne's Thought
Borecký, Felix ; Ševčík, Miloš (advisor) ; Fulka, Josef (referee) ; Hrbata, Zdeněk (referee)
1 Summary: F. Borecký, The Role of Imagination in Aesthetic Experience in Mikel Dufrenne's Thought The aim of this dissertation thesis is to present Dufrenne's original conception of imagination and to highlight its significance for philosophical aesthetics. We focus on a critical interpretation of two alternative approaches which Dufrenne considers in his work. The first approach is based on a noetic perspective, the other on an ontological one. In both cases, Dufrenne claims that imagination is a productive, effecting activity which in a formative manner participates in knowledge of a priori truths regarding human being in the world. Such knowledge is most fully accomplished in the aesthetic experience. Only there a man opens oneself to the external world while maintaining with it a relation of primordial corporeity, which they both - i.e., both humans and the world - share. Imagination and its correlate, the imaginary, in an aesthetic experience stimulate each other and enable a reverberation of the most fundamental possibilities of human being in the world. It is imagination and the imaginary which enable a man to penetrate the superficial empirical level and reach the deep level of the a priori. On the level of the a priori, a man can experience the original corporeal unity which is of the same kind...

The role of places of indeterminacy in the proces of reading the work of art
Kadlčíková, Radka ; Kubalík, Štěpán (advisor) ; Ševčík, Miloš (referee)
The work is focussing on two aesthetic theories, which primarily deal with the reception of literary work of art. Thesis discusses about the phenomenological aesthetics of Roman Ingarden and reception aesthetics of Wolfgang Iser. Research is conducted to clarify the notion of indeterminacy places in a literary text and its function in it. Both authors explain this concept by their own approach to the reception of literary work of art. The method of work is defined by the description of these two presented theories, and by the end of the thesis, both approaches are compared. The aim of the thesis is to characterize both theories and define the concept of indeterminacy places within them. The aim is also to describe the moments in which Wolfgang Iser theories are inspired by Roman Ingarden and also the place where their theories do not agree and Iser revises it.
