Architecture in the utopian/dystopian films of the thirties
Kryvenko, Anna ; CZUMALO, Vladimír (advisor) ; ŠERÝ, Ladislav (referee)
Architecture has always reflected the state of society, as it must adapt to human life. In a worse case, it may be the other way round - people are forced to change their life in order to adapt to the urban environment. Architecture works with the scale, touch and sight, time and space. In this way it is similar to the film as a mean of expression. This study aims to compare ideas about the future with what was happening in society and art during the creation of various films through focusing on the visual element - architecture. The most obvious way are the visions of the future highlighted in utopian and dystopian films, because this field has always aimed at creating ideal world. The presented work is focused on the total of a short period of the thirties, because it is the time of creating the utopian/dystopian films as a cinematic genre. It is also a period of great political, social and artistic changes that have affected the history of the twentieth century.

Kliment, Jáchym ; CZUMALO, Vladimír (advisor) ; ŠERÝ, Ladislav (referee)
The thesis focuses on observation of resemblance, exploration of the identical and the different. At first, it considers analogy and comparation in a complex approach focusing on philosophy, logic, mathematics and linguistics. At the same time, resemblance is perceived in close connection to representation and image, semiotics, iconology, iconography, photography and processes ? as well as related concepts, such as mimesis, reference, representation, transformation, simulation, virtuality and hyperreality. The final part is concerned with resemblance and its effect on typology, original and copy ? identity, perceiving of authenticity and the function of memory. The key concepts are: non-causality of resemblance, analogy of proportionality in contrast to analogy of proportion, visual thinking and functionality of memory, resemblance as the basic power of image, and transformation as the principal form of representation.

Photography - medium of light and time or medium of contemporary art?
Stecker, David ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Grygar, Štěpán (referee) ; Šimlová, Štěpánka (referee)
Is there anything like specific values of photography which come from its basic substance of this medium? If yes, can be these values applied in today´s world of art or must photography give them up to defend its own position in this changable and competitive milieu and must photography look for other values and work with such of those which do not come from its substance? And is it even perspective to look for something archaic as ontology of particuliar media? Maybe yes.
