The work has two parts - theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part it shows that the implementation of cooperative teaching in groups brings other demands for the teachers than the traditional concept of using the frontal forms and it shifts responsibility for learning to the learners themselves. It is described that its effectiveness is determined by respecting the whole system of co-operative teaching in a form of a few well-defined principles. Its application in language teaching offers opportunities to practise the language effectively and allows to use the language in natural situations, which is generally regarded the most effective and most natural method of learning the language. From the research it has shown that the co-operative teaching of languages is not applied in the lessons because the teachers do not have the skills and knowledge. Their knowledge has revealed only in the group work, but even here it is not used very often because of the lack of time.
