Creation of the Framework of Indicators for the Sustainability Report of the Charles University

The thesis addresses the options for creating or choosing a thoretical and practical framework for the monitoring and reporting of the development of the Charles University with respect to its integration of the concept of sustainable development into its operations. The answer to the question of the methods to be used to choose theoretically grounded and relevant sustainability indicators is found firstly in a rigorous conceptualization of both sustainable development, as well as of the role of the university in the society and in an interlinkage of these conceptualizations. Secondly, the requirement for indicators of the desired quality is to be met through adhering to the operationalization of the chosen concept of sustainability and to the criteria chosen by core stakeholders using the method of social multicriteria analysis. In the empirical part exminig the preconditions for a regular monitoring of the Charles University using sustainablity indicators, the author comes to the conclusion that despite the absence of an institutional embedding of the sustainability concept into the official documents, the data availability for the indicators is rather high, though irregular and with data requiring further processing.

Three case studies of resourse management of tropical ethnic groups in area of Indonesia and Oceania: Siberut, Tikopia, Pingelap

This diploma thesis is based on three case studies discussing three native cultures and their ways of using ecosystem resources. The three studied tribes share following characteristics: they live in tropics, they represent Austronesian ethnolinguistic group and their habitat is a specific detached island. Studying the three chosen traditional island communities on Siberut, Tikopia and Pingelap give us detailed information about the local ways of living, traditional agriculture, land tenure, hunting, breeding and local trade. At the same time it helps us to discover differences of the three examples caused by number of socio-environmental factors as well as to characterize three types of interaction between people and their natural environment. Due to study of chosen tribes it was found out that local traditional way of using ecosystem resources not only allows inhabitants to survive but moreover sustains the natural environment. Therefore, it is proposed that applied principles could be adopted by other tropical places already more influenced by western culture. In such places the main source of food is conventional agriculture which is not perceived as fully sustainable. Recognition of the Mimic Countenance of Man and Chimpanzee

Two hundred and one college students (101 females, 100 males) voluntarily participated in the present study. 7 basic facial expressions of human and 10 basic facial expressions of chimpanzee were used as stimulus. Slides were presented by data-projector on a projecting screen in the experimental room, while students judged individual facial expressions. After the judgment session, students filled out the Czech short version of the Personal Attributes Questionnaire (PAQ; Spence & Helmreich, 1978). Data were assessed in general linear model with decoding accuracy for human facial expressions as a dependent variable and sex of subjects and M-F types of persons as effects. Biological sex was found to be significant for correct recognition of human facial expressions. M-F types had no significant influence to accuracy of decoding of human facial expressions. Additional t-test showed females reached higher accuracy scores for human facial expressions than males.

Trading in Financial Markets

The thesis aims to analyze opportunities for trading in the financial markets for the retail investor, including a specific trading system applied to real investment instrument in the form of currency pair EUR / USD. A partial aim is an understandable and simple way to introduce the essence of the functioning of financial markets, introduce the various bodies that are active in the financial markets, including methods of their regulation. Another objective is to introduce various investment instruments, and because that the thesis discusses investing of real funds, the emphasis is on the list of risks and possibilities of their elimination.

Radek Trnka Department of Physics, Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia Electrical part of Temelin Nuclear Power Station - Power supply of important electrical appliances The subject of this bachelor's work is an elaboration of problems of secured electric power supply for all important appliances in Temelin Nuclear Power Station (JE Temelin). There is an essential electrical conception of the nuclear power station described there, as well as possibilities of failure state emergences, their solutions and the main electrical automatics involved in the security of key power components. The work also includes a segmentation of appliances according to their relevance and a description of various devices which provide required electric power supply characteristics for important appliances.
