Klozová, Dominika ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Švelch, Jan (referee)
The thesis is about development of the media mix in Japan and its characteristics from the history to the present. The core points are the key elements of the media mix - manga, anime and video games. These media are described within the historical context in connection with the media mix. Beside the historical development and interconnections of these media, the thesis compares the media mix with the term transmedia storytelling. It defines both of these terms and illustrates their similarities. Practical research shows concrete examples of media mix, their mutual comparison and classification within the defined terms of media mix and transmediality. This is achieved by selecting samples with different media source from the media mix that are used as a demonstration for the media mix or transmedia storytelling practices.
Language culture and incorporation of foreign words into Czech language in Právo
Kubínová, Monika ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Švelch, Jan (referee)
In this work I would like to focus on language culture and incorporation of words from foreign languages into Czech language in Právo in 1990 - 2014. In the first part of the analysis I would like to look closer on the language culture in Právo by comparing language culture in the years 1990 and 2014. This gives me overview of the language evolution. For more accurate analysis of the language culture I will go through every year of the newspaper. In the second part of the analysis I would like to focus on the incorporation of foreign words into Czech language in Právo. I will be analysing the same period as in the previous section. I selected this period on purpose because I think that after 1989 there will be more and more foreign words coming into Czech language. I also suppose that the number of incorporated words will stop rising and keep at some level after some time. I would like to focus on the number of incorporated words and what foreign languages are used for the incorporationn the most.

Work focuses on representation of opponents in first-person shooter video games. It aims to discover tools, which developers of video games use to choose specific enemies for their games and in which way they present them. First-person shooters are used for this purposes because players have closest visual contact with opponents in this genre. The aim of this work is to describe most typical opponents in video games and to find out why this exact enemies are usualyy the most portrayed. Special attention is paid to video games which used original attitude for creating enemies. Work than focuses on most frequent stereotypes in opponents presentation, mostly racial and national, which are used by developers and what function they have. Than it gives room for critics of such stereotypes and tries to estimate if these critics can result in some changes in the future. Video games which created controversy by representation of specific enemies are subject of next topic. These games often put players in position of moral dilemma. On the base of research from literature and analysis of video games this work focuses on main reasons of representation of concrete enemies and what emotional impact it can have on players.

Ocásková, Šárka ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Švelch, Jan (referee)
New media are now growing more than ever before. It is probably clear to everyone that this new trend impacted on has hit all fields of dissemination of the news and information channels. How far have these new media influenced such a specific journal as town hall journal is? It may vary according to by regions. It also depends on what the situation in the town is, what is typical for the region, and how can region manage the rapid modernization in this area, to be more useful than harmful. That is why I have chosen Moravian-Silesian region for my work. Due to the fact that even this area is quite large, I focused on Novojičínsko region in more detail. To get a better idea of this area the first part of the work is focused on the specification of the region, especially Novojičínsko region. There is explained why the town hall journal is so specific and sodifferent from other magazines. The main sources of the data for this work are in-depth interviews with the authors of the individual periodicals. These interviews will show us how far the authors have been influenced by new technologies and information channels, what they have already put into practice. We also discussed their plans for the future, and on the other hand - what causes the biggest problems and complications in implementing the new...

Válek, Jiří ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Švelch, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the phenomenon of live-streaming of computer games in the Czech Republic. This thesis is based on an approach of online ethnography and tries to describe what meaning do the producers of content (who are labeled as performers in this thesis) ascribe to streaming, what are their motivations to stream, how they present themselves on the streams and what is the content of those streams. The live-streaming of computer games in this thesis is put into context of user-generated content. The main part of this thesis is a qualitative research realized through an online observations of streams and through interviews with the performers, who stream on the streaming service Twitch. The findings show that streaming is entertaining and time passing activity for the performers, but also a form of a social contact. Some motivations of the performers include the satisfaction of their viewers and recurring contact with them. There were no financial motivations involved among the performers. Performers mostly do not stylize themselves into any specific role, however some of them do take on themselves the roles of teachers, who teach their viewers to be a better gamer, or the roles of entertainers. During the stream the performers mostly put their attention to only a single game and also to an...

Glitch is becoming an important topic both in popular culture and academia. In 2012, Disney cast a glitch as a major character in its movie homage to arcade video games Wreck-It Ralph. More and more studies about glitch are emerging across various disciplines, from media studies to aesthetics. So far, researchers were focusing mostly on theoretical and technological aspects of the glitch. This Master's thesis aims to analyze the "everyday" glitch and the roles it plays in the video game culture, conducting a qualitative content analysis of online discussion forums of three recent hit video games: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. The first part of the thesis reviews the literature connected to the glitch and explains its connection to similar scientific concepts: error, noise and emergence. It also introduces different aspects and roles of the glitch, ranging from cheating and metagaming to humor and aberrant use. The second part consists of the analysis of online discussion forums concerning the player definition of the glitch, the process of finding and sharing the glitch and about the main aspects of the glitch from the viewpoint of active participants in online discussions: glitch as an error or a feature, patching the glitch, cheating, metagaming and humor.
