Linguistic and Graphical Analysis of a Manuscript Handbook of Wedding Speeches from the Beginning of the 18th Century
Valentová, Gabriela ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (advisor) ; Martínek, František (referee)
This bachelor thesis analyses a manuscript book of wedding speeches from the beginning of the 18th century in terms of graphics and language. It aims to evaluate the linguistic level of a non-elite user of the Czech language in the vernacular environment of the High Baroque period. For the purpose of the analysis, a complete translation of the manuscript being studied is carried out first. On this basis, graphic elements and phenomena from all basic linguistic levels are selected, which are then compared with the relevant literature of contemporary bohemistics and selected period grammar manuals. The relevance to the period's linguistic usage is evaluated taking into account the available lexical databases. On the basis of the analysis of relevant graphic and linguistic elements, the manuscript handbook of wedding speeches can be regarded as evidence of the use of period standard language in a very sophisticated form, which only sporadically reflects elements of the spoken language. Keywords: history of Czech language, Early Modern manuscript, language analysis, orthography

Commented Edition of the Manuscript Tale Black Johnny or Axle Grease Seller enchanted In the Old Ruined Castle Radyně above Plzenec
Matoušová, Tereza ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (advisor) ; Martínek, František (referee)
1 Abstract This thesis deals with a handwritten manuscript from the turn of the 18th century called Cžerneg Honza a neb. w Starim zbořenim Zámku Raďiňie. Nad Plzencem Zaklený Kolomaznjk and which elaborates a myth about the Radyně castle from the Pilsen region in the short-story-form. The first part presents a transliterated edition of the text by preserving the original orthography. The second part of the thesis analyses the orthography of the manuscript by building upon the preceding section. It focuses on the structure of the text, punctuation, spelling of consonants and vowels and briefly mentions rare ways of writing proper nouns and the use of capital letters. The analysis situates the orthography of the manuscript into a certain time period and, in the end, it establishes whether the manuscript belongs to the printers' or the scribal orthography. Alternatively, it evaluates whether the written orthography tends to resemble the printers' orthography. In the third section, the transcribed edition of the manuscript is introduced, using the current orthography. This edition makes the text accessible to a broader circle of contemporary readers. Apart from the transcription rules and the list of emendations, the editorial apparatus also incorporates a vocabulary with words, which could possibly be...
Principles of Czech orthography
Horký, Václav ; Adam, Robert (advisor) ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (referee)
In this study, I deal with general laws or principles of Czech orthography. After the introduction, I define the smallest written unit, a grapheme in the second chapter. In the third and fourth chapters, I focus on how and where two main principles of Czech orthography manifest, and how and where they are violated. The first of these principles is the phonemic principle, ie. the principle of a one-to-one correspondence between a phoneme and a grapheme, and the second one is the morphemic principle, ie. the principle of a one-to-one correspondence between a morpheme and its written form.

Idiolect of Mrs. A. S. (1913-2010) from Varvarovka, Anapa Against the Background of Czech Emigrant Dialects in Krasnodar Krai, Russian federation
Jelínková, Klára ; Skorvid, Sergej (advisor) ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (referee)
This thesis considers linguistic phenomena obtained from audio recordings of Ms. A. S., who lived in an indigenous Czech village in the North Caucasus. The speaker is a granddaughter of native Czech colonists, who inhabited the Black Sea area of the Caucasus in the second half of the 19th century. The first part of the thesis considers in brief the history of Czech emigration to the former Tsarist Russia, focusing on the Caucasus and the villages that the informant comes from. The second part of the thesis, then, maps dominant and specific phenomena that occur in the recording. A connection is drawn between the phenomena listed and other studies of Novorossyisk-Anapa variety of the Czech language, as well as other studies of dialectal variation in Russia and the situation of these phenomena in the Southwestern-Bohemian dialect, as that is the dialect which this variety of the Czech language derives from. Since a considerable part of the recording consists of Ms. A. S.'s daughter and granddaughter speaking, examples of their speech are also included in the thesis, or intergenerational comparison of the phenomena is drawn. Keywords: a Czech language island, dialectology, Russia, the Caucasus, Anapa, influence of Russian, Southwestern-Bohemian dialect group
Topoi in Critical Discourse Analysis
Preininger, Mikuláš ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explore, how critical discourse analysis, namely Discourse- Historical Approach (DHA), analyses argumentation strategies and how it uses the concept of topos. The main task of DHA is to grasp how socially problematic phenomena (e. g. discrimination) spread and based on this knowledge it aims to suggest ways to tackle them (e. g. defining correct and fallacious argumentation practices). In this way, DHA embraces both descriptive and normative approach. As a key analytical tool for describing and assessing argumentation, DHA uses the concept of topos. According to DHA, topos is a scheme which connects arguments with conclusions (e. g. the topos of authority, working in a sense we perform action x because subject y suggests so). The advantage of topos is the fact that, on the one hand, compared to arguments, it is more general, on the other hand, compared to abstract logical rules, it is more related to the content of argumentation. As such, it provides a useful tool for exploring typified manners of argumentation and persuasion. The way DHA analyses argumentation strategies and topoi, however, became a subject of criticism. First, it concerns the fact that argumentation analysis in DHA often lacks method and transparency (Žagar 2010). Second, it concerns the fact that...
