Assessment of Potential for Forming Regional Identity of the Frýdlant Micro-region
Šifta, Miroslav ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Kučerová, Silvie Rita (referee)
The thesis deals with the regional identity of the Frýdlant micro-region. The main objective is to analyze a potential for forming of the identity according to the theory of institutionalization of region by Finnish geographer A. Paasi (1986). The thesis discusses conditions for creation of the shape of the region, observes current borders and the symbolic shape of the region and its polarization (peripherality), assesses a degree of institutionalization of the region and the current potential for forming of the regional identity in the area of interest. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first part provides an overview of general background of studies of territorial identities, focusing on the observed phenomena (the identity, the regional identity, the potential of regional identity). In the second chapter the territory of interest is defined and the situational analysis of the Frýdlant micro-region is provided with a focus on demographic and economic indicators, respectively on the assessment of conditions for formation of the regional identity. The third chapter deals with the potential for formation of the regional identity with regard to various stages of the process of institutionalization of the region. This chapter is divided into subsections according to these stages. The first...

ABSTRACT Territorial Differentiation of Elementary Education in Czechia during the Second Half of the Twentieth Century (Its Influence on Local and Regional Development) We are all witnesses to a process of extensive spatial polarization in the distribution of elementary schools in many economically developed countries, including Czechia, during the second half of the 20th and in the 21st century. Processes of mass school closures, especially in rural areas, and the concentration of...

Havelková, Lenka ; Hanus, Martin (advisor) ; Kučerová, Silvie Rita (referee)
The presented bachelor thesis deals with map skills' development in history, mathematics and biology at lower and upper secondary schools. Map skills tend to be seen as part of geographic skills so the issue related to their development in other subjects isn't researched enough. The first part of this thesis concerns with the use of map skills in everyday life, and summarizes evidence of their importance in various subjects. Based on the research focused on chosen subjects (history, mathematics, biology) are subsequently suggested particular possibilities of map skills' development. The aim of the practical part of this work that examines the development of map skills in terms of intended and implemented curriculum is to evaluate their status in education at Czech schools and also to reflect theoretically oriented chapters. As researched methods the analysis of textbooks and the questionnaire survey are used. Keywords: map, map skills' development, history, mathematics, biology, analysis of textbooks, questionnaire survey

Primary School Pupil Numbers and Demographic Change in Czech Municipalities
Kusovská, Marie ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kučerová, Silvie Rita (referee) ; Fiala, Tomáš (referee)
Primary School Pupil Numbers and Demographic Change in Czech Municipalities Abstract Following a sharp fall in fertility to its historical minimum after 1990, the population of Czechia began to increase again gradually. Consequently birth cohorts of varying size are emerging and these then enter the education system. Moreover suburbanisation has led to a change in population distribution. These factors have mean that in some areas primary school capacity does not reflect the numbers of primary school age children, with some schools having insufficient places and others suffering from a lack of pupils. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse regional demographic change in Czechia after 1990, including changes in the spatial pattern of compulsory school age children (6-14 years). The information obtained is set against the changes in the spatial patterns of primary school pupils and maximum primary school capacity. The whole analysis is undertaken within the catchment regions for combined primary schools (schools that provide nine years of primary and middle school education), which were created on the basis of the shortest road distance from the district to the nearest combined primary school. Webb's graphs were used along with spatial autocorrelation since these are appropriate methods for conducting...
