This bachelor thesis consists of two parts - translation and a commentary on said translation. We chose two chapters from Timothy Hickson's book On Writing and Worldbuilding: Volume I (2019) - Foreshadowing and Polytheistic religions. The author uses excerpts from famous works of fantastical literature to illustrate his points. The commentary includes text analysis, a description of translation method, and an overview of translation problems and their solutions. The essays of Marina Tsvetaeva in Czech translations

Czech translations of six essays by Marina Tsvetaeva that focus on poetry writing and on the work of fellow-poets were examined, following a detailed analysis of Tsvetaeva's style and the historical and biographical context of her prose. The evaluation criteria for the translations were: accuracy in reproducing the author's meaning, the ability to distinguish the characteristic features of Tsveateva's style from the systemic features of Russian and the translators' creative input in reproducing especially the lexical and euphonic intricacies of the original. In addition to providing a general overview of translation problems posed by the author's style the work attempted to trace differences between the approaches of two translators of Tsvetaeva's princi pal essays on art: Jana Štroblová (Art in the Light oj Conscience) and Jan Zábrana (Poet and Time, The Epic and Lyric ofContemporary Russia). All Czech translations were found seriously lacking in accuracy; the errors in the reproduction of meaning are partly due to the idiosyncrasies of Tsvetaeva's style (e.g. punctuation), but sometimes to sheer carelessness. The birth of an industry

The aim of this thesis is to translate the chapter The birth of an industry written by Douglas Bruster for the publication The Cambridge History of British Theatre. This thesis further contains a commentary of the translation. The first part of the commentary is devoted to translation analysis of the original text, the second part concentrates on description of the translation problems and their solutions. This thesis is concluded by a typology of translation shifts.

The aim of this thesis is to translate a chapter from the book Immigrant Experiences: Personal Narrative and Psychological Analysis and to carry out a translation analysis of this translation. The commentary on the translation is divided into four parts. The first part deals with the translation analysis focused on the extratextual and intratextual factors of the source text. The second part contains a typology of translation problems at the grammatical, syntactic, lexical, stylistic and cultural levels. The third part concentrates on the shifts that occurred in the translation and the forth part on the translation method used in the work.

This thesis consists of two parts: the first one is a Czech translation of two parts of the 6th chapter from the book "Birthing Fathers: The transformation of Men in American Rites of Birth" by Richard K. Reed, the second one is an analysis of the translation. The analysis begins with an outline of the intratextual and extratextual factors of the original text (according to Christiane Nord), it is followed by an overview of the most salient issues, which emerged during the process, and their solutions, then the analysis deals with the translation shifts and ends with the description of the chosen translation method. The text itself tackles the issue of men in the pocess of birth and is based on an anthropological research.
