University Exam as a Pedagogical Issue
Poórová, Edita ; Dvořák, Dominik (advisor) ; Šebková, Helena (referee) ; Urbánek, Petr (referee)
The thesis deals with an examination in the context of student assessment in higher education. This process is researched in terms of the institutional frame of student assessment at universities and within a real educational process. We would like to point at the topicality of this theme in pedagogical theory, practice and research. Despite the fact that examination and assessment of students at university belongs to the duties of a university teacher this theme has neither been researched nor discussed in Slovakia a lot. The aim of our thesis was to find out how the university students are examined and assessed during a semester in Slovakia and what external factors influence this process. In our theoretical part we concentrate on important aspects of the university student assessment process as they are presented in literature. In the empirical part we describe the research which we have conducted at different faculties of three universities in Slovakia. By means of the qualitative research methods (document analysis, interview, observation) we have elaborated a multiple case study which brings an analysis of the assessment strategies of eight ESP teachers in different study programs. The results of our research show that studied university teachers act in the student assessment process very...
Long Night's Journey into Day: Implementation of Czech Policy on Higher Education Quality Assurance
Kohoutek, Jan ; Veselý, Arnošt (advisor) ; Stensaker, Bjorn (referee) ; Štech, Stanislav (referee) ; Šebková, Helena (referee)
This doctoral thesis takes up the theme of policy implementation in higher education. More specifically, the thesis aims to analyse the implementation of Czech system-level policy on higher education quality assurance in the period from 1990 until 2010. This policy is analysed through the implementation instruments: accreditation, the Higher Education Development Fund, the Development Programmes, and the platform for dissemination of examples of good practice. The conceptual framework guiding the enquiry combines insights from the policyaction continuum concept, the instrumental approach to policy implementation, including Vedung's typology of policy instruments, and Actor-Centred Institutionalism. The enquiry undertaken in the thesis attests to the theoretical and empirical obsoleteness of the Cerych and Sabatier framework, traditionally used in analysing higher education policy implementation. Furthermore, the enquiry identifies the stick-carrot-sermon instrument set-up as a distinct implementation style. As a result of the enquiry, several shortcomings are identified that limit the utilisation of the four implementation instruments, and recommendations are formulated on how to ameliorate them in policy practice.

TITLE: External relations of school AUTHOR: Jindra Stříbrská DEPARTMENT: Institute for Research and Development of Education SUPERVISOR: Doc. PaedDr. Jaroslava Vašutová, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: This dissertation work deals with external relations between a school and its stakeholders and their management. External relations are studied in schools at all levels of education (ISCED 0-6). Pedagogical sciences, management, marketing, psychology and sociology serve as the theoretical basis. The primary theme of the thesis is regional colleges in the Czech Republic, whose external relations are considered an important principle of their development. We deal with major theoretical and political starting points of research into the external relations of regional colleges based on national and international educational policy documents; we take into account the context of changes in higher education systems and colleges in recent decades in our country and the world. The empirical part illustrates the changes in external relations of various types of schools using case studies successively at kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. We focus on an analysis of external relations and their management of regional colleges in the Czech Republic in more detail. We present the results of a secondary analysis of major...
An influence of the Bologna Process on Czech higher education with respect to Charles University
Šťastná, Věra ; Walterová, Eliška (advisor) ; Šebková, Helena (referee) ; Koucký, Jan (referee)
The thesis is devoted to the Bologna Process, especially to the transition to the three-cycle sys- tem of degree programmes. Its aim is to show, based on both qualitative and quantitative data, how the Bologna process has permeated from the European level to the national level and how it has influenced Charles University. In the first two parts the basic research method is struc- tured content analysis of relevant Bologna and national documents. In the third, empirical part, which concentrates on Charles University, the research questions are aimed at identifying prob- lems connected with the implementation of the three-cycle system, the preference for returning to undivided Master's degree programmes, the vertical permeability of degree programmes, the early leavings and the length of study. Based on a questionnaire survey and quantitative data a multiple case study analysis has been developed. Among others it concludes that 1) the return to undivided degree programmes is not considered to be viable option by most of the faculties, 2) with the dividing line resting on professional or academic orientation of the degree pro- gramme, 3) the transition to the three-cycle system has often led to a high number of specialized degree programmes which according to the faculties has promoted attractiveness...
