Michel Foucault's concept of genealogy
Elyasi, Samira ; Klass, Tobias Nikolaus (advisor) ; Hartung, Gerald (referee)
In this paper, I try to briefly describe Michel Foucault's concept of genealogy. This concept will be located in a wider context, which includes some epistemological debates regarding the possibility of historical knowledge. In this regard I try to introduce the most basic arguments which have traditionally been used against this possibility. Genealogy will be finally presented as a way to overcome these arguments in a critical manner. Key Words: history, historical knowledge, a priori imagination, hermeneutic circle, substance, origin, power, sexuality.

Part One explains the physical and legal meaning of noise and vibration. Part Two describes the main sources of exessive noise and vibration. Part Three analysis negative effects on human health. Part Four compares noise and vibration protection measures. Part Five mentions the mostly used environmental legal instruments. Valecký, Štěpán ; Buben, Milan (advisor) ; Kuthan, Jiří (referee)
The Coats of Arms in the countries of the Bohemian Crown in the Middle Ages Summary A coat-of-arms is an integral part of nobilities' representation in medieval times. The beginning of using coats-of-arms is based on historical traditions, but first of all on practical needs growing up from the war experiences. That's why heraldry has strict and firm rules, which are only consequences of combat experiences. In terms of feudal system medieval Lord becomes an owner of certain country. The coat-of-arms of certain country unites in time with the sign of ruling dynasty. That is also the way, how it happened in Bohemia. The beginning of the use of the coats-of-arms is classified usually into 12th century, the time of second crusade. In relation to vassal oath with Roman Empire the Czech principality takes over these principles and perhaps its first coat-of-arms - the eagle. A lion figure with one tail as well appears in bohemian coat-of-arms very early. In this period both figures are used by the sovereigns. Subsequently, the lion coat-of-arms, the dynastic sign of Premyslid dynasty, came to the fore. The eagle is the sign of holy Vaclav, patron and eternal monarch of Bohemian country. We can deduce the origin of the lion's figure from the coat-of- arms of the imperial Stauf dynasty; its origin could also come...
Changes in testosterone level in 16-year-old boys in response to experimentally induced jealousy reaction
Enderlová, Jana ; Klapilová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Konečná, Martina (referee)
Past research suggests association between basal steroid hormone testosterone level and its changes with some individual characteristics (especially some behavioral manifestations of dominance and aggression) or different outcomes of male-male competition. This relationship is usually (in accordance with evolutionary theory) interpreted as the consequence of different individual prerequisites (or the degree of individual motivation) for high status position including winning a male-male competition. The aim of this study was to test the adequacy of measuring jealousy reaction in adolescent boys by way of changes in salivary testosterone level and finding their associations with some individual characteristics mentioned by researchers. For the purpose of measuring basal testosterone level and changes in this hormone level during the competition for a mate which simulated the internet mating and changes in this hormone after being informed of their failure in this competition, the boys who participated in our study provided three salivary samples. For finding associations of basal testosterone level and these hormonal changes with some individual characteristics, the boys filled in a set of questionnaires (EATQ-R, the short version of IPIP, EBIS, ISJS, RSPQ, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale and expanded...

Analysis of power relations and gender stereotypes in writings of Gabriela Preissová - Gazdina roba and Její pastorkyňa
Konopáčová, Zuzana ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Matonoha, Jan (referee)
This thesis discusses the conception of power relations and gender stereotypes in Gabriela Preissová's literary masterpiece - Gazdina roba and Její pastorkyňa. The analysis employs the concept of power as an analytical categoryand draws on Michel Foucault's theories. The thesis further examines the discourse in which the main characters find themselves. The analysis of male and female characters focuses on the position of the main character and also on the ways in which female protagonists become influenced by their male partners. Selected characters are also interpreted by using Foucault's concept of bio-power and a special attention is paid to the subject type of homo oeconomicus. The thesis attempts to answer the question, whether the discussed literary characters are "disciplined bodies", or whether they embody a subversion of the (gender) system. Part of the text is also dedicated to the comparison of male and female characters in both Preissová's works as to whether they do or do not comly with traditional images of "masculinity" and "femininity" (and related gender stereotypes), or how many of them represent resisting or (in the case of some female protagonists) collaborating entities. Possible interpretations of the characters' inner drive in this regard are also offered. Key words:...

The ratio of second to fourth digit length and sport performance in recreational and top snowboarders
Švehla, Jakub ; Pivoňková, Věra (advisor) ; Lindová, Jitka (referee)
The second (index finger) to fourth (ring finger) digit length ratio (2D:4D) is known to be a putative marker of prenatal exposure to the testosterone. It has been reported that fetal testosterone may be critical for development of morphological and psychological traits such as quality of the cardiovascular system, visuo-spatial ability, risk-taking behavior and behavioral masculinity. Testosterone-driven attributes are associated with success in male-to- male physical competition, which may be proxied by ability in sports. Many studies have found that 2D:4D is sexually dimorphic and low (male-typical) 2D:4D ratio is associated with athletic performance. This study aims to investigate possible associations of performance in sport with 2D:4D ratio, personality characteristics (Big Five model), willing to take risks and training habits, in a sample of 57 top and 57 recreational snowboard racers. We did not find any associations between 2D:4D ratio and sport performance, no significant differences were found in 2D:4D ratio between samples. We found negative associations between agreeableness and sport performance; individuals with low agreeableness achieved higher results in the real competition of freestyle snowboarding. Low agreeableness used to be associated with aggressiveness, emulation and...
