Restoration of the Renaissance Town Hall in Hostěradice
Vican, Martin ; Mikeš, Stanislav (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis was to develop project documentation for a building permit in part B and construction execution documentation in part C. The developed project documentation follows on from the subject AG034 – Monument restoration studio. The topic of the studio work was to propose a solution for the restoration of the Renaissance town hall in Hostěradice, which now serves only as a grocery store and a gym. All the spaces of the town hall are falling into disrepair, but the village of Hostěradice is starting to invest in gradual repairs and improvements not only to the building itself, but also to the surrounding area. After completing a workshop in the building, which resulted in a preliminary structural and technical survey of the building and the basic considerations of the residents of the village and the council, I arrived at the basic concept of the restoration of the town hall. I will rid the building of all redundant constructions that divide vaulted spaces and redundant extensions. By demolishing the attached stage, I isolate the historic building, to which I then design a modern extension with hygienic and technical facilities. It is connected to the historic town hall by a glazed space with a communication core, from which you can reach all the used spaces. The purpose of the restored building will be to represent the village at social events. All spaces will be converted into halls, galleries or facilities for refreshments in the form of catering and a bar. With this approach, I plan to preserve the valuable layers of the Renaissance building and at the same time add a new layer to the town hall that adapts the building to modern needs.
Representation in International Organizations: Size and Composition of National Delegations
Vlček, Václav ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee) ; Sommerer, Thomas (referee)
In general, states and their governments make decisions in international politics and international organizations. However, the states are, in fact, represented by people. How many and who are they? This dissertation thesis deals with state representation in international organizations. In particular, it studies the size and composition of national delegations to plenary meetings of international organizations. From the theoretical perspective, the thesis builds on rationalist assumptions and tests established theories in the field. As for the causes of the various delegation sizes, the thesis hypothesizes 1) various institutional power, 2) different economic resources, 3) various intensity of national interests, 4) different levels of government effectiveness, and 5) different domestic political regimes. Next, the theoretical framework explains the various delegation composition by 1) different intensity of the national preferences, 2) different levels of government effectiveness, and 3) different domestic political regimes. From the methodological perspective, the thesis builds on an extensive statistical analysis using a unique quantitative dataset across seventeen international organizations and the UN General Assembly sessions from 1993 to 2016. The delegation composition is operationalized in...

Kraví hora - BUT Family silver
Prosseková, Jarmila ; Kyselka,, Mojmír (referee) ; Nový, Alois (advisor)
The focus of this thesis is an architectural study of the Kraví Hora area in Brno in a 1:200 scale. The area is significant in both size and location, but has been underutilized up to this point. The objective of the thesis is to discover a solution acceptable for the city of Brno as well as BUT, whose intentions with the area differ significantly. The area has been designed to have recreational spaces of greenery. Traffic has been either largely reduced, or eliminated entirely. A wide variety of sports, eductational programs and recreational activities has been made available for visitors of all ages. The objective of the planned area is to inspire and positively motivate the study of technology and interest in science via its functional design. Exhibition areas, lecture halls, rentable workspaces for graduates, a recruitment center and general storage spaces has been designed in the area. The design of the buildings is based around the incline of the plot – they have a maximum of one extra floor over the level of the surrounding terrain. The green roof and the vertical outer layer of laminated timber is designed to provide a natural character to the structures. The predominantly horizontal area is granted an element of verticality in the form of a lookout tower.
The Czech embassy in Addis Ababa - Ethiopia
Honková, Lenka ; Elešová, Klára Tomášová (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor) ; Brzoň, Roman (advisor)
The complex of the Embassy of the Czech Republic is designed as a set of separated objects that are linked to each other. The main reason is the strict separation of functions, especially the separation of working and living. Each building is surrounded by the garden as a symbol of relax. In the north-eastern part of the estate, there is a relaxation centre that includes a playground, a swimming pool and a tukul. The main entrance to the complex through the double barrier is situated in the south-west part of the complex. In the area of the new embassy complex, there are buildings which include only one or two over-ground floors. The official embassy building as the most important part is designed as a highest point in the complex and consists of two over-ground floor and one ground floor (parking, technical support, etc). A second floor is offset over the first floor and represent a protection from rain and sunshine. In the north part, the offset floor creates a covered part of the outdoor space following the representative garden. Next one in the line of buildings is apartment building which contains also three floors and one above-ground floor. This building is also smaller than previous. The last building in the row is only one-floored. It is a consular and visa office accessible from outside. The concept of the building line is aimed at getting employees out of their flats to their workplaces even during the rainy season. In the northern part of the complex there is an ambassador's residence, which is conceived as a two-storey building, where 2nd floor follows the roof terrace. In the western part of the plot behind the inner wall, there is a local force object located which is designed as a single-storey building. The main element of the expression of the whole area is stainless steel lamellas, which create a facade suspended on the buildings. The lamellas are bronze coloured that evokes the colour of a clay and a drought that the territory suffers from.
Kraví hora - BUT Family silver
Šagátová, Patrícia ; Dvořák, Miloš (referee) ; Nový, Alois (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with design of the polyfunctional center and the whole complex for the Brno University of Technology, which would serve for its representation. The land is in Brno on Kraví hora and its location has huge potential. However, the area is not used by the university, so the existing buildings are in poor condition. Therefore, the aim of the proposal is to find a suitable use of the land that would meet the university's requirements together with the city's intentions.
Winery Marcinčák Novosedly
Janovská, Tereza ; Todorov, Petr (referee) ; Boleslavská, Yvona (advisor) ; Petříček, Tomáš (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor's thesis for the academic year 2020/21 was the design of a representative and production space for winemaker Petr Marcinčák, the owner of the Marcinčák winery, whose current object does not correspond to the required representation. The newly created building is located on the outskirts of the village Novosedly, on an elevated hill Stara hora. This plot offers a unique view of the Palava wine region and the nearby wine town of Mikulov, which is dominated by the local castle. The land is situated uphill. Its terrain is sloping using the so-called terraces, where the individual terraces are spaced up to four meters in height. With the help of these height spacings, I could afford to design a partially recessed building. The representation part and the production part are located separately so that the production does not disturb possible guests of the winery. The production hall is designed in the lower part of the plot. Structurally, it is a skeletal system with a vegetation roof. The representative building is designed as a system of three blocks folded into a triangle with the height difference of the individual blocks. The space was created between the blocks and is used for communication. The first floor, also the entrance, serves as a reception for newly accommodated guests, a tasting room and accommodation. The second floor is used for catering and wine representation. The first underground floor serves as an accommodation. The whole building is designed from monolithic reinforced concrete. The main part of the tasting and catering is solved by reinforced concrete frames due to the large span. The roofs are used as terraces or vegetation roofs, with the exception of the roofing of the last above-ground floor, where it is a classic single-skin roof. The facade of the building is designed individually depending on the height of the floor. Stone cladding is chosen for the underground floor. The first floor is

Supply Your Own Light
Lukášová, Veronika ; Kroupa, Jiří (referee) ; Hojstričová,, Jana (referee) ; Armutidisová, Irena (advisor)
My disertation theses explores the intricate relationship between art, science and photography in the framework of the contemporary culture. Clearly outlined research areas open up the subject to a broader theoretical examination to underpin the artistic strategies that can be employed in the practial research. The resulting artwork interprets the domain of particle physics in a series of artworks. First area of the research delves into the domain of images and seeks to understand the relationship between the images of art and science in a broader sense. Second area investigates ambiguous medium of photography as both tool of science and art. Third area is an overview of the history of representation of the subatomic world and issues related to representing what is in fact unrepresentable. Fourth seeks to find epistemic and conceptual connection between art and science and their interdisciplinary dialogue as Sci-Art. The fifth part introduces artworks that reflect the critical egangement with the theoretical research and the scientific method by building the instrument for the observation of the cosmic rays. Sources for the theoretical framework are largely drawn from the academic literature written in the UK and USA where the topics explored in the theses have been studied in depth. The time scope considered in the theses encompasses 1990's of the 20. century up utill the present day.
