Posttraumatic growth after death of a close person in adulthood and old age

The thesis deals with the theme of posttraumatic growth in adulthood (40-60 years) and old age (70 + years) following the death of close person during their adolescence, adulthood and old age, whom they have been in a close relationship with. The purpose of the thesis is to detect the occurence of posttraumatic growth and to determine in which areas and how the posttraumatic growth manifests in eighteen respondents. Another goal of this thesis is to compare the outcomes with the concepts of Tedeschi and Calhoun, Janoff-Bulman, Joseph and Linley, Hana Valentová and with the research conducted by Finkousová. The theoretical part is dedicated to decription of posttraumatic growth, it's definitions, models and factors of influence. Further theoretical chapters are dedicated to the topic of death of a close person. The empirical part of the work uses qualitative research using semi-structed interviews with eighteen respondents and subsequent content analysis using open coding. The analysis has revealed seven main areas of posttraumatic growth and their sub-areas: The area of relationships (Family, Care of others), Reconstruction of relationship with self (Self-belief, Importance of health, Independence), The value of life (Change of priorites, Appreciation of life, Fragility of life), A different...
Relationship between posttraumatic growth and coping processes of healthy siblings of children with disabilities

This thesis is focused on the current concept of coping with stressful situations and the concept of posttraumatic growth of healthy siblings of disabled children. The first part of this thesis deals with stressful situations throughout the life of healthy sibling. The work describes the ways of coping with difficult life situations as well as coping strategies oriented to the future (proactive coping). It also focuses on the positive effects of this experience within the concept of posttraumatic growth. The empirical part presents the data obtained from nine respondents. There were used these methods: interview, narrative inspired by life-story, questionnaire PTGI-CZ and PCI questionnaire. The data were elaborated by means of qualitative and quantitative methods. The aim of the thesis was to identify the coping strategies used by siblings and identify potential posttraumatic growth. The most considerable development was reflected in the areas of "appreciation of life" and "personal growth". The most helpful coping strategies were considered to be positive thinking and positive reappraisal of a situation. We believe that these research findings might be helpful in counselling for siblings or in the area of psychotherapy.
Psychological Trauma and its Effects on Human's Life

The objective of the diploma work "Psychological Trauma and its Effects on Human's Life" is to find out the impact of an unexpected traumatic experience which appears in one's life. The theoretical background characterizes briefly the topic of psychological traumatic experiences, their origin, features and forms. It also discusses stress phenomenon, adaptation, defence and managing mechanisms, the ones which help people to deal with strain and difficulties. In the context of extreme stress impacts, the main part focuses on posttraumatic stress disorder as one of the most frequent diagnostic categories. This disorder appears as a consequence of insufficient treatment of a serious traumatic experience which manifests itself by persistence of mental and somatic problems. The work also deals with other consequences of trauma in the psychological and social sphere including posttraumatic growth. The thesis also deals with different trauma reactions and risk and protective factors influencing trauma processing and trauma reactions. The research project (Methodological analysis) provides with case studies and show trauma progress, processing and coping with a traumatic experience. It evaluates and confirms negative and positive impact and influence of psychical trauma on human's life.
The Posttraumatic Growth of the Professional Firefighters

This diploma thesis is focusing on the posttraumatic growth in professional fire fighters. The theoretical part deals with models of the posttraumatic growth and factors which affect this process. Another constituent of the work is a treatise about psychological aspects of the fire fighter job execution. One section of the work, the empirical section, is based on the Czech version of a questionnaire method called "Posttraumatic Growth Inventory ". It is a questionnaire that discovers the level of achieved posttraumatic growth in 5 areas; personal strength, new possibilities, relating to others, appreciation of life and spiritual change. The research sample that consisted of 100 professional firemen verified the relationship between the posttraumatic growth and other aspects of respondents' lives. The research showed following discovery. The marital status, the fact if the respondent has a family, the time which passed since experiencing a difficult incident, the subjectively perceived intensity of an event, the level of distress, psychological well-being, behaviour of type A, cognitive resilience of an individual, strategy of bearing the burden of "negative view", "the concentration on a problem" and "the mineralization of threats" is not connected with the grade of obtained posttraumatic growth....

The bachelor thesis deals with the theme of posttraumatic growth in regards of death of a close person. It focuses on young adults, who have experienced death of a relative within their adolescence and adulthood, whom they have been in a close relationship with (a parent, grandparent). The purpose of the thesis is to detect the occurence of the posttraumatic growth in nine young adults and to determine in which areas and how does the posttraumatic growth manifest. Furthermore, to compare the outcomes with the concepts of Tadeschi and Calhoun, Janoff-Bulman and with "the model of the battle" used in the dissertation work of Hana Valentová. The theoretical part is dedicated to description of the theme of death of a loved one and to the narration of posttraumatic growth, its definition, models and the factors of infuence. The empirical part of the work uses qualitative research using semi-structured interviews with nine respondents and subsequent content analysis using open coding. The analysis has revealed seven main areas of posttraumatic growth: the area of relationships, ability to trust in the midst of a crisis situation, spiritual growth, professional direction, reconstruction of the relationship with self, the value of life and new possibilities.
