Alternative for Germany: election marketing, political personalities and current development

The submitted bachelor thesis Alternative for Germany: election marketing, political personalities and current development deals with an analysis of a German political party. At first, the creation and development of a political subject and its anchoring in the German political system is described. The influence of individual chosen politicians on the policies of the Alternative for Germany is examined, as well as the tools of political marketing and the communication with the electorate. In the end of the thesis, an emphasis is given on the current development of the party from autumn 2017 till April 2018.
Populismus v současné české a německé stranické politice - příklad Alternativy pro Německo a Svobody a přímé demokracie v České republice

In this paper I concentrate on the topics of populism, its explicit definition, attribution within the system of political course, short history of development within the scope of western democracy, its distinctive traits and its contemporarily increasing tendency of influence of populist parties in the parliament of the representative democracy and also the advancement of populistic candidates in countries which possess a presidential system. I focus on two parties in particular, one within the framework of the German and another within the Czech parliament party system. I provide insight on the main characteristics and differences between the German political party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), and the Czech political party Svoboda a přímá demokracie - Tomio Okamura (SPD) in terms of temporary development, structure of the organization, election program and canvass. Further, an analysis of the election results in both parliaments in those countries is pointed out.
The United Kingdom Independence Party media representation in selected British media between the years 2014 and 2016

This thesis analyzes media representation of the United Kingdom Independence Party between the years 2014 and 2016 in selected British media where it follows keywords used by these medias in the articles about the party and whether these themes can be identified as key topics in the context of media-generated frame and where, based on these frames, place these medias the party in the political spectrum of the United Kingdom. Despite the brief history of the United Kingdom Independence Party, the work contains chapters about right-wing populism and Euroscepticism. This is followed by an analysis of selected British media based on four keywords. The media, which have been used for the analysis were The Guardian, The Telegraph and BBC News. The chosen keywords were - Euroscepticism, immigration, criticism of the political system (antiestablishment) and organizational change within the party. It examines the 50 most relevant articles with these keywords from 2014-2016 and the tendency of thir usage. Far-right Parties in Czech Media before 2017 Parliament Elections

Topic of the thesis is the image of Czech far-right parties in Czech media prior to Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017. Aim of the thesis is to investigate how media displays far-right parties prior to the Elections in 2017, what the topics of media coverage are in regards of far- right and how the topics changed in the Elections in 2017 comparing with Elections in 2013. Using quantitative content analysis the thesis monitors texts with far-right topics in national daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo and Hospodářské noviny in the periods prior to the Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017 and 2013. Author also uses qualitative analysis of specific texts. The parties followed in thesis are chosen based on definition of far-right by Cas Mudde and definition of right wing populism by Hans-Georg Betz. Populist Parties in German Speaking Countries - Case Study Using the Examples of Alternative for Germany and Freedom Party of Austria in 2013-2017.

In recent decades, we have witnessed a sharp increase in the preferences of populist parties across Europe. These parties gain votes not only in the east, but also in the west. In many countries, populists participate in the government. This trend also affected the German- speaking countries. This bachelor thesis deals with populist parties in German-speaking countries on the example of Alternative for Germany and Freedom Party of Austria. Although they may appear to be two completely different parties, the topics of their programmes in recent years has been approaching. It seems to be a direct call to question the similarity of these two parties, considering their history, development and topics. The aim of the thesis is to characterize the Alternative for Germany and the Freedom Party of Austria from the point of view of the history and ideology of the parties, using the compilation of research findings in the field of (right-wing) populism. National Front: Old extreme right or new extreme right?

The thesis is focused on the development and transformation of the National Front, largely after Marine Le Pen took up the position of the party's boss in 2011. An analysis of the direction of the party will be conducted to answer research questions, with the main emphasis on the development of the party from 2011. The analysis will be made with the reflection of the events of recent years, especially considering the influence of Marine Le Pen on the events around the party and her own actions. Based on these facts, in combination with the theoretical part of the thesis, the work has the ambition to answer research questions, including a question in the title of the thesis itself. The thesis is divided into several parts. In the first part, after the introduction into the problems of thesis, the aim of thesis is revealed, followed by methodology and overall overview of the structure of work. Another (theoretical) part defines key concepts. The following part deals with the general historical development of the party. The final part of the thesis focuses on the transformation of the National Front under the leadership of Marine Le Pen and, in the context of the theoretical part, attempts to answer research questions and outlines possible options for future development.

The bachelors thesis, Northern League (Lega Nord): Umberto Bossi's and Matteo Salvini's role in setting the ideology of this political party, examines the importance and role of the political party leader. The timeframe of this analysis is from 1992 till 1994 and from 2013 till 2018. The intention is to introduce both leaders, the principles of their communication and the foundations of party's ideology in the time of their leadership. The objective of the thesis is to prove that the leader has a major influence in defining the ideology of this political party. The concept of Gideon Rath's and Tamir Shaefer's behavioral and media personalization of politics has been applied further. At the end, the thesis confirms the essential influence of a leader of a political party on its ideology through comparison of the communication of both mentioned leaders, through analysis of their role in defining the ideology of the party, and using examples of personalization of politics. Several expert opinions and articles from electronic media are presented to support the result of this analysis.
Comparison of chosen populist parties in France, Germany and the Netherlands in relationship to the European integration.

This bachelor thesis focuses on cooperation of chosen populist parties in France, Germany and the Netherlands in relationship to the European Union and European integration. The first chapter defines and characterizes the term "populism". This chapter also focuses on populism in the European Union and European integration - it describes what topics are current and important for populist parties. The second chapter describes the chosen parties (National Front, Alternative for Germany and Party for Freedom) and their current election programs, which they used for the elections in 2017 and relatively success for these parties. The analysis of these election programs targets the areas regarding European Union and European integration. The last chapter analyzes these programs and also compares the approaches of the selected political entities among themselves. Based on this comparison a table is created from which the result of this work is apparent.
Media reflexion of national parties discourse about immigrants: Comparative analysis of Czech and French daily newspaper

The diploma thesis Media reflection of the discourse of nationalist parties about immigrants: comparative analysis of the Czech and French daily newspapers investigates the manner in which Czech and French media reflect the speech of the Czech political party Svoboda a přímá demokracie (SPD) and the French political party National Front (FN) about immigrants. The aim of the present study is to examine how much space the Czech and French daily newspapers provide to the anti-immigrant discourse of these two parties. We also look into the context in which the representatives of these political formations speak about migrants and consider the labels they use to describe them. The method used in this research is a quantitative content analysis. By its means we analysed the articles published throughout the years 2015 and 2016 in the Czech daily newspapers as well as in the French daily Le Figaro. The study focused mainly on those parts (quotations) of the articles, where the politicians or the representatives of SPD or FN speak about migrants. The results show that analysed Czech and French newspapers provide rather little space in their articles for the discourse of SPD and FN representatives about immigrants. Populist rhetoric as UKIP's strategy

Populism is a phenomenon, which popularity rise over the Europe, enhanced by immigration and economic situation in some of the EU countries. This thesis is trying to analyze, how much was the populist rhetoric chosen as a strategy to be used by United Kingdom Independent Party in-between 2014-2016 and it is done via the frames the British newspapers gave to the UKIP in the articles and the number of repetition of chosen populist topic in these articles. To settle some basis definitions, the thesis contains short history of the party, an attempt to define populism with emphasis on right wing populism and the brief overview of British Euroscepticism of last 40 years. The quantitative analysis is using articles from The Guardian, The Telegraph and BBC News. The research is done on 50 most relevant articles through the years 2014-2016 connected to one of the topics - Euroscepticism, immigration, antiestablishment and organizational changes within the party. It is trying to prove, whether the tendency to use these populist topics by the party was rising and if it could be marked as party strategy. I tried to prove this by the number of the articles aimed on one of the topics and the reflection of the media analyses way of framing the party.
