Examining the relationships among cryptocurrencies using Google Trends
Heller, Michael ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Džmuráňová, Hana (referee)
The topic of our thesis is the examination of the relationships among cryptocur- rencies using Google Trends. In our thesis, we concentrated on four cryptocur- rencies, namely: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic and Ethereum. We obtained the data of daily opening prices, daily trading volumes and daily Google Trends queries in order to examine the relationships among the four cryptocurrencies. Applying the Vector autoregression model and Vector error correction model, we constructed four models. The first model contains only four time series of daily prices of cryptocurrencies. The second model is the first model enriched by the respective four time series of Google Trends queries. The third model contains the four time series of daily trading volumes of the four cryptocurrencies. The fourth model is the third model enriched by the four time series of Google Trends queries of respective cryptocurrencies. Then we applied the Impulse response analysis and the Forecast error variance decomposition in order to find some relationships among the variables. We found that there is some correlation among prices, volumes and Google Trends queries containing the names of the four cryptocurrencies. According to our results acquired by the Forecast error variance decomposition, in all our models, Bitcoin has the...

Cryptocurrencies are a fairly young phenomenon, which is still developing. They are mainly used as an alternative to state-recognized currencies or a specific investment instrument. Because of the significant profits that transactions can bring with them, the issue of determining related tax obligations is important. The work is divided into 4 basic parts. The first part deals with the general definition of the cryptocurrencies and other relevant institutes. The second part deals with personal income tax and the third part deals with value added tax. The final fourth part deals with the issue of the future development of cryptocurrencies regulation. In the first part, focus is placed on the general definition of cryptocurrencies within the rule of law, with emphasis on comparison with selected traditional institutes of financial law. Attention is also paid to the specific features of cryptocurrencies that are relevant in terms of tax administration and related tax duties. Alternative economies in rural Russia
Vargolskaia, Virginia ; Stöckelová, Tereza (advisor) ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to study how nonhuman agents are introduced and employed as a replacement for social reproduction by analyzing the environment and types of exchange practiced in the countryside of post-socialist Russia. The farm where my fieldwork took place exhibits many types of exchange, among which cryptocurrencies, seen as a socio- material algorithm, are used for the redistribution of essential goods and/or favors in a method similar to those used in former socialist and post-socialist economies. Drawing from the anthropological discussion on gift-commodity logic in the area, I look at cryptocurrencies as a hybrid - they hold the qualities of a gift (authority, name) and could be used to speculate with on the crypto stock-exchange (commodity). Key words: alternative economies, post-socialism, cryptocurrencies, algorithms, sociomateriality

This thesis examines whether cryptocurrencies are gambling assets which could be important for investors' decision making and also for better understanding of the cryptocurrencies themselves. Gambling asset is understood in terms of stocks and therefore a comparison of crypto- currency and stock lottery characteristics is made. It is shown that in most time periods it cannot be said that cryptocurrencies exhibit larger lottery characteristics. Furthermore, it is shown that Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Dash and Monero would classify as gambling asset, however, Bitcoin would not. Android stock market application
Balaževič, Lukáš ; Ilgner, Petr (referee) ; Zvončák, Vojtěch (advisor)
The aim of the work is to design and implement an android application which will display parameters of cryptocurrencies, technical indicators and will predict the price based on the modern technology of machine learning. In addition to the displaying parameters, the user will be able to set up notifications. Application displays data from the Firebase database. The data are uploaded to an application from two services which run on Ubuntu server and are written in programming language Kotlin and Python. Services are in charge of obtaining and data processing. One of the services takes care of price prediction, the price is predicted using a LSTM neural network where each cryptocurrency has an own training model. The result of the work is a system that takes care of the whole lifecycle of the data from the acquisition, transformation and the presentation to the user. Based on acquired information from the application, the user is able to make statistically correct decisions in the cryptocurrency market without the need to constant market monitoring.
The Volatility Patterns and Correlation of Cryptocurrencies: Overcoming the Bitcoin's primacy
Šembera, Tomáš ; Čech, František (advisor) ; Kočenda, Evžen (referee)
The thesis focuses at the evolution of cryptocurrencies or more precisely at the competition process between them in expanding to broader usage. The first main goal of the work is to find out, whether Bitcoin, as the first and still most capitalized cryptocurrency, has an advantage of higher maturity than alternative cryptocurrencies. The second goal is to analyze whether the individual cryptocurrencies are perceived individually by market participants, which could grant the alternative cryptocurrencies an option to compete with Bitcoin by offering better features as safer technology or faster transaction. The analysis of volatility patterns in their exchange rates via various GARCH models suggests that Bitcoin still has advantage in higher maturity. The analysis of the correlation between various alternative cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin finds positive correlation and thus suggests that the cryptocurrencies are rather perceived together. JEL Classification G17, G19, E40, E41 Keywords cryptocurrencies, volatility, GARCH, money, correlation Author's e-mail 79828843@fsv.cuni.cz Supervisor's e-mail frantisek.cech@fsv.cuni.cz
