Hranice – redefinition of urban structure
Uherková, Ivona ; Ryšavá, Hana (referee) ; Ponešová, Barbora (advisor)
The diploma thesis Park and Ride deals with the design of a car park in the town of Hranice, which is known mainly for its important transport train node and Hranice Abyss. The city now suffers from the high intensity of car traffic in the city center due to insufficient street network. This network is disrupted by a four-lane road that was built in the 1980s and cut natural transport links. The abolition of the four-lane road, which is now lacking in transport services, releases a large amount of development area, which is primarily used as an agri-recreational area. Part of this green belt is the parking house, which prevents the entry of surplus cars into the city center. The parking house is a new transport hub of the city, which also includes elements of alternative transport - transfer to public transport or bicycle, which makes it possible to create a city center pleasant for pedestrians.

Horáková, Eva
Daily movement patterns of inhabitants derived from mobile phone data are one of very valuable data sources for today’s sociological and urban analyses of modern cities. These data sets are open but – while being of a limited quality – available on a mobile provider’s website. This data enables a number of users in selected areas to be observed through two-hour time slots. It also provides anonymous information about the age and gender of the users. The aim of this paper is to introduce mobile phone data visualisations through a case study of the city of Brno, Czech Republic.
Building law environmentalisation - status quo and perspectives
Židek, Dominik ; Sobotka, Michal (referee)
The dissertation deals with a phenomenon called building law environmentalisation. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the basic factors leading to the entry of environmental influences into the processes of public building law on the basis of legal regulations, doctrinal opinions and very extensive case law of the administrative courts. The main content of the thesis is the analysis of these factors and the subsequent generalisation of the conclusions of the analysed phenomenon. The thesis answers the question: what is the extent to which is the current public building law influenced by "environmental acts"? Thus what does specifically influence the processes of public building law by environmental law and what is the extent of this influence? The text of the dissertation is divided into seven chapters. The first three of them can be perceived as a gradually concretized general framework of the problem, from the initial facts about the EU legal requirements, through the basic characteristics of the building law to the detailed analysis of the individual administrative tools ("final" administrative acts) of building law. The next three chapters are devoted to the detailed examination of mechanisms for assessing and taking into consideration the interests of environmental protection in "decision-...
University in the City Space: Charles University and University of Vienna
Kavan, Ondřej ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Konrád, Ota (referee)
This thesis is a comparative case study that employs the disciplines and subjects of urban studies, history of universities and city planning. It presents and compares the history of the built environment of the Charles University Prague and the University of Vienna from their very beginning until present days. Main subject of the study therefore is the (spatial) city- university relationship and the position of the respective university in it. How many areas does the university use? What are these like? What are the distances between each of them and what is the distance to the attractive downtown? What are the respective historical contexts of all the development plans, which of them became reality and which not? These research questions are answered in the comparative analysis of the two universities. A second subject of the paper is the analysis of the agility of the universities who are facing some global development trends of the university strategic planning and have to deal with them both now and in the future. Do the development plans of the university support the interdisciplinary cooperation, globally competitive science or it's own position in the host city in order to support own attractiveness and efficiency? All these questions are discussed and answered.

Bajusz, Tadeáš ; Vykoukal, Jiří (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis deals with the questions of urban planning and building activity in the time of the Second World War. The research topic of the single case study is Prague in the period of Nazi occupation between March 1939 and May 1945. The aim of the thesis is to challenge the simplifying interpretation of occupation as a period without any building activity. The simplifying interpretation usually explains the low number of built objects being caused directly by the occupants' long term plans with Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. The thesis tries to challenge this interpretation and using the examples of built objects of the traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings, it shows the ongoing building. The first part shortly summarizes the concepts of Nazi architecture and town planning and connects them with long-term plans with the occupied territories of South-eastern Europe. The second chapter concentrates on the Nazi concepts and plans for remaking Prague and introduces the problematics of building activities during occupation. Based on archival research, the examples of building activity of traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings are shown in the third chapter. The conclusion summarizes the results of the research and critically evaluates the outcomes of the thesis. The thesis is based on...
