Evaluation of Developmental Dyspraxia in Children and Adolescents in Relation with Handedness, and in Children and Adolescents with Learning Disabilities
Jínová, Anna ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Zounková, Irena (referee)
10 Annotation This diploma thesis deals with relations between developmental coordination disorder (or developmental dyspraxia) and laterality and handedness. In the theoretical part this work summarizes actual knowledge about the origin and the development of laterality and handedness and describes possibilities how to examine it. It also deals with knowledge about developmental coordination disorder, its characteristic, etiology, prevalence and diagnostic possibilities. The aim of the practical part was to evaluate motor difficulties in children with right and left handedness and to compare differencies. The Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2 was used for that evaluation. Motor skills in 64 children (30 left-handed and 34 right-handed) were evaluated. We haven't found any difference between those groups of children, their results were very balanced. We have also tested the motor skills in children with crossed eye-hand laterality, any significant difference hasn't been found in comparison with standard population. The group of children with learning disabilities has been also evaluated, we have found statisticaly significant difference between their motor skills and motor skills of standard population.
Development of Test Batteries for Diagnostics of Motor Laterality Manifestation - Link between Cerebellar Dominance and Hand Performance
Musálek, Martin ; Chytráčková, Jitka (advisor) ; Tichý, Jiří (referee) ; Bryden, Pamela (referee)
The aim of this study is to contribute to the standardization of the new diagnostic tools assessing the motor manifestations of laterality in adults and children aged 8 to 10 years, both in terms of determining the theoretical concept and the selection of appropriate items, and the verification of structural hypotheses concerning the design of acceptable models, including the diagnostic quality of individual parts of the test battery. Moreover in this study we try to suggest new approach in assessing of motor laterality manifestation by means of relationship between cerebellar dominance and hand performance. The first part of this thesis deals with the concept of laterality, its manifestations and meaning in non-living systems and living organisms. As a human characteristic, laterality is manifested in a variety of functional and structural asymmetries. This part also discusses ways of diagnosing motor manifestations of laterality and the issue of cerebellar dominance, including its reflection in the form of asymmetry of the extinction physiological syndrome of upper limbs. The second part focuses on the process of the standardization study, the statistical method of structural equation modelling, and the actual design of test battery construction. The last part of this thesis presents the results...
The comparison of stereognosis and pallesthesia of the preferred and non-preferred upper extremity in students of physiotherapy
Boráňová, Martina ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Vomáčková, Helena (referee)
Title: The comparison of stereognosis and pallesthesia of the preferred and non-preferred upper extremity in students of physiotherapy Objectives: To the objectives of the work belong the processing and compilation of information concerning laterality and sensation in the region of the upper extremities, then to evaluate the preference of the upper extremity by means of elected tests in 30 students of physiotherapy and to evaluate, whether the sensitivity of stereognosis and pallesthesia is higher in the region of the non- preferred upper extremity than in the region of the preferred upper extremity or whether the sensitivity of stereognosis and pallesthesia both of the upper extremities do not differ. Methods: The tasks of the work were dealt with four tests directed to the examination of preference, stereognosis and pallesthesia in the region of upper extremities. The statistic analysis of the results of the examination was carried out by means of paired t-test. Results: In the examination of pallesthesia in the region of processus styloideus radii and in the examination of stereognosis the null-hypothesis, that the sensitivity of pallesthesia / stereognosis examined by selected test in the region of preferred and non-preferred upper extremity in students of physiotherapy does not differ, was at...
Cerebral laterality in birds and mammals, its behavioral correlation and evolutionary significance
Tureček, Petr ; Komárek, Stanislav (advisor) ; Němec, Pavel (referee)
Lateralization of brain is ubiquitous quality of vertebrate brain. In this paper we rewiev examples of brain lateralization in birds and mammals and it's behavioral impacts. Than we discuss possible evolutionary origins of these asymmetries and their evolutionary significance. We try to explain individual as well as population level lateralization. We propose, that population level lateralization can, in principle, arise just on the genofondal basis, if the organism itself contributes to the enviroment with the lateralized behavior. Lateralized sensory input on the other hand should stand on the advantages of synchronizing with other individuals due to the disatvantage of predictability of lateralized population. Keywords: Lateralization; laterality; population level lateralization; asymmetry; evolutionary significance

TITLE: Development of soft motoric and grafhomotoric by persons with special needs for education AUTHOR: Dana Chocholáčová DEPARTMENT: Department of pedagogy SUPERVISOR: Doc. Ing. Jitka Vodáková, CSc ABSTRACT: The goal of the bachelor thesis is to find out influence of selected practice activities on development of soft motoric and grafhomotoric by people with mental retardation and people with poliomyelitis. Theoretical part introduces readers to selected kinds of disabilities, their causes and manifestations. The bachelor thesis describes development of soft motoric and grafhomotoric and their development through practice activities, specifics of personality with mental retardation and their importance for vocational education and occupational therapy. Practical part describes to readers progress of research and evaluation of basic group and case study, control test evaluation and if these selected practice activities have any influence on development of soft motoric. KEYWORDS: Soft motoric, grafhomotoric, laterality, mental retardation, poliomyelitis, practice activities.
Work with left-handed pupil at the beginning of the school attendence
Uhlířová, Petra ; Linková, Marie (advisor) ; Kropáčková, Jana (referee)
This thesis deals with the laterality and the ways of diagnosis at children. It is divided into three parts - theoretical, practical and appendixes. The theoretical part deals with laterality, methods of diagnostic and methodology of work with left-handed pupil at the beginning of the school attendance. The aim of research in the practical part of the thesis was to find information about working with left-handed pupils between the students of primary teaching and teachers in practise. The appendixes of this thesis include the questionnaires used for the practical part of the thesis and worksheets for pupils to relax their hand while writing.
Motor performance of pupils with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Otipková, Zuzana ; Lejčarová, Alena (advisor) ; Musálek, Martin (referee)
Title: Motor performance of pupils with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Objectives: The aim of the work was to determine the level of fine and gross motor skills of upper extremities of the pupils with diagnosis ADHD at schools specialized on these pupils and compare it with the fine and gross motor skills of upper extremities of children without this diagnosis at common elementary school. Further work objective was to determine the level of gross motor skills of lower limbs and laterality of paired organs (hand - foot) within above mentioned groups of pupils. Methods: To determine the level of fine and gross motor skills of upper extremities, gross motor skills of lower limbs, laterality of the upper and lower extremities of the pupils with and without ADHD aged 9-11 years we used these types of tests: "Spiral", "Dotting test", "Beads" (the level of fine motor skills of the upper extremities); "Pack", "Small plate tapping", "Big plate tapping" (the level of gross motor skills of upper extremities); "Tapping the leg" (the level of gross motor skills of the lower limbs); "Typing out the Rhythm" (the laterality of the lower limbs); "Bell" and "Matches" (the laterality of the upper extremities). Results: The fine motor level of dominant hand was in the case of ADHD diagnosed pupils...
Diagnosis of laterality in the school environment
Šnajdrová, Veronika ; Vítečková, Michaela (advisor) ; Krykorková, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis contains theoretical principals of expressions of the dominance of the brain hemispheres - laterality. It solves the development of laterality, its genotype and phenotype, levels, laterality types and species, refers to the educational consequences of the improper educational influence on genotype laterality and subsequent corrections. It also deals with the diagnosis of laterality, especially from a position of a teacher. The basic idea of this work is to support the natural development of a child through appropriate laterality effects on the child, specifically a student diagnosed with dysphasia.
