The text deals with the current state of the language of the Czech minority in Crimea. Main focus of the text is phonetics, i.e. the way how speakers are affected by the Russian pronunciation standards. The text contains historical and cultural context relevant to the departure of Czechs to Crimea and the shape of the Czech minority nowadays. Individual chapters are dedicated to specific phenomena: deviations in the pronunciation of vocals in first syllables of words, changes in the pronunciation of the consonant [j], labialization in pronunciation of consonant [v], changes in the pronunciation of loanwords, pronunciation of consonants [ ] and [ ] in Czech words, pronunciation of toponyms, prosthesis and elimination of speech sounds from the beginning of words, deviations in the pronunciation of speech sounds from the middle of words, vocalization of prepositions and influences of Russian language standards on the use of their vocalized form.
Influence of Phonetic Literacy on the Perception Ability of Czech Learners of English
Kaňák, Jakub ; Červinková Poesová, Kristýna (advisor) ; Farrell, Mark Robert (referee)
The thesis covers the main points of L2 acquisition with the main focus on L2 perception and production. The relevant theories concerning acquisition of L2 phonology were outlined and some important points stressed, namely, the role of L1 phonology on L2 perception and subsequently production. The subjects of final stop devoicing and pre-fortis shortening were mentioned with relation to Czech speakers of English. In the practical part, the thesis provides an account of a perceptual experiment that focused on the perception of word-final /t/ and /d/ phonemes of English by Czech students of English phonetics. It was found that Czech students are susceptible to their L1 phonology in distinguishing the voicing contrast word-finally. No significant overall correlation was found between the knowledge of pre-fortis shortening and the performance in a subsequent perceptual test. Key words: speech perception, phonetics, phonology, second language acquisition
Russian vowel system in comparison with Czech
Hušek, Jan ; Nazarenko, Liliya (advisor) ; Žofková, Hana (referee)
The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to compare the articulation and distribution of Czech and Russian vowels and on the basis of differences devise a suitable way of articulation of Russian vowels for Czech learners. The thesis is divided into two parts; the first one describes the articulation of vowels, the differences in quality and quantity in both languages and quality changes caused by suprasegmental language units with an accent on reductions of the 1st and 2nd degree in Russian. The second part offers a system of phonetic exercises designed in order to improve the articulation of Russian vowels which is primarily intended for Czech pupils. Linguistic analysis of Petr Nikl's works
Sigmundová, Alena ; Palkosková, Olga (advisor) ; Janovec, Ladislav (referee)
The content of this paper is a linguistic analysis of Petr Nikl's texts. Petr Nikl is an all-round artist. His main activity is graphic arts; he is also engaged in the Puppet Theater, he sings with a music group Lakomé Barky and writes children books. The aim of this study is to determine if the author respects the child perspective in his works. Especially if he uses only such language elements, that are appropriate for children. After a thorough analysis of all Nikl's books (Pohádka o Rybitince (2001), O Rybabě a Mořské duši (2002), Lingvistické pohádky (2006), Záhádky (2007), Jělěňovití (2008) a Niklův Blázníček (2009), I concluded that the author respects only some elements of the perspective of a child. The syntactic structure of the text is uncomplicated and therefore children appropriate. From the lexical point of view the situation is not so clear. The author uses simple metaphors, similes, uses words that mostly originate from the national origin, and often uses emotive words. On the other hand, uncommon and literary words and complicated poetic neologisms, that most children cannot know, occur in his texts quite frequently. From the morphological point of view I do not find any significant obstacles, so that children could not read and enjoy his works. But these obstacles can occur on the...
Czech Consonants and Their Realization by Vietnamese Speakers
Čepelíková, Monika ; Machač, Pavel (advisor) ; Štěpánová, Veronika (referee)
Present diploma thesis deals with perceptively noticeable deviations in realization of consonants in Czech of Vietnamese native speakers. The aim of the thesis is identification, characterization, categorization and quantification of the deviations from common Czech pronunciation according to specific ways of realization. In the theoretical part the consonant systems of both the languages and their syllabic structures are compared contrastively. The following chapter is dedicated to a short analysis of the pronunciation exercises and their didactic contribution in the most frequently used textbooks of Czech as a foreign language. Moreover, a textbook designated for Vietnamese speakers and an English textbook were analyzed for a better comparison. The research itself is based on an analysis of 16 records of Vietnamese native speakers by a method of careful listening in Praat program. The results have shown that the most frequent deviations in the speech of Vietnamese speakers were caused by interference from their mother tongue, especially because of the different consonant systems of Czech and Vietnamese and their different phonotactic rules. Czech phonetic transcription
Zedek, Martin ; Atassi, Hicham (referee) ; Sysel, Petr (advisor)
The aim is to create a script for automatic transcription of Czech language phonetic forward and backward. The thesis compares the different phonetic alphabet and describes their advantages and disadvantages. For this thesis was eventually selected Czech Phonetic Alphabet (ČFA). The following are the most important rules for connection of vowels and consonants and the main assimilation rules. The script was created in MATLAB environment. The function is to convert the phonetic form using the rules described. Backward conversion is not fully debugged and it is necessary to refine the result using Aspell program for correcting spelling.

The Development of Pronunciation Practice in Theaching German in Basic Schools
RYCHTAŘÍKOVÁ, Jana
This bachelor work is concerned with the development of German pronunciation practice at elementary schools. Theoretical part describes phonetic phenomena that are usually the cause of problems for Czech students when learning German pronunciation. It is based on the typology of exercise by Ursula Hirschfeld and it sums up the most important principles of the pronunciation exercise. The practical part includes the analysis of two textbooks Deutch mit Max and Macht mit! This thesis evaluates the number of each phonetic exercise in each textbook and exercise book. It then compares that number to the total number of these exercises in the whole set of textbooks. It describes the phonetic states that are exercised in the textbooks and which exercises are not included. It then classifies these exercises according to Prof. Ursula Hirschfeld. In the second part, there are at least two types of exercise suggested for each phenomenon.
