Integration and everyday life of Italian refugees exiled to Northern Bohemia in the First World War :a microhistorical look at the daily experience of Sannicoló in Jablonné v Podještědí

The purpose of the thesis is to look at the reality of an Italian-speaking refugee during the First World War, when people were forced to evacuate the Trentino region and were moved within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The thesis will look closely at the diary of an Italian-speaking refugee, starting with his evacuation from Trentino and continuing to his arrival and permanence in the northern Bohemian city of Jablonné v Podještědí. The paper will also explore the internal migration movements and efforts made by the Habsburg Empire, with special regard to the experiences of Italian- speaking refugees. The diary of the man known as Sannicoló will be used to give a microhistorical study and perspective of his move from Rovereto, Italy to the city of Jablonné v Podještědí. His reality as an Italian-speaking refugee and citizen of the Habsburg Empire will be briefly compared with what is generally known of the refugee situation within the Austro-Hungarian Empire and that of other Italian- speaking refugees, to determine the degree of success of his integration into the local population's community. The Forms of Autobiography. Přestupný rok - Disiecta membra - Let let

This doctoral thesis is concerned with autobiographical forms, their general characteristics as well as with three examples of Czech works of art that prove how difficult it is to make that general characteristics and show various kinds of autobiographical narrative. It aims to show the often heterogeneous character of the so- called autobiographical genres, and present some approaches in their study. In the opening chapter, we define the term autobiography or autobiographical form in regard to literary history and theory, and special attention to Czech research in this field. We concentrate on the genre specifics of autobiographical forms, the opposition of "literary" and "authentic" diary, the term "autobiographical pact" coined by Philippe Lejeune and several patterns of autobiographical memory introduced by James Olney. The key aspect of our study is the nature of autobiographical form derived from the subject's style and illocutionary acts, i. e. stylization as defined by John Searle followed by Jean Starobinski or Paul de Man. Nguyen Thuat's mission to the Qing court in the context of events in East Asia

This thesis deals with Vietnamese scholar Nguyễn Thuật and his Diary of Journey to Tiānjīn (Wǎng Jīn rìjì 往津日記; hereinafter the Diary), which contains records of the journey of the Vietnamese diplomatic envoy to China in 1883. The aim is to identify the informative values of the Diary as well as Nguyễn Thuật's perception of China from a political and cultural standpoint by analyzing the content of the Diary. The first chapter provides cultural context of historical events during the second half of the 19th century. The following chapter is the main chapter where Nguyễn Thuật and his Diary are elaborated on. The thesis concludes with hypotheses of Nguyễn Thuật's intentions to write his Diary and assessment of informative values and thus opens the way to deeper comprehension of the historical development of Sino-Vietnamese relations.

Representation of the sixties of 20th century in literary autobiography

This work is an attempt to gain a deeper understanding of the 1960s through an in-depth analysis of selected literary autobiographies. The first section is devoted to the theoretical foundation for exploring the chosen four texts of autobiographical literature. It is based on the analysis and subsequent comparison diaries of Ivan Diviš and Pavel Juráček and the memory of Vaclav Černý and Ota Filip. Additionally, this paper examines how these writers created an image of the 1960s and early 1970s.mFurther exploration includes narrative elements, for example, by what means texts are constructed, character space time, composition, and relationship to the audience. Moreover, the meaning of writing autobiographical literature, specifically the selected works, will be explored. Lastly, these major themes set the stage for the comprehensive analysis of the authors' works, revealing the creative design, history, society and culture of their time.

England in the eyes of Czech noblemen at the turn of the 16th and the 17th century

This bachelor thesis deals with the ways of Czech noblemen in England at the turn of the 16th and the 17th centuries. The thesis contains a general summary of traveling during the early modern period. It is based on analysis of the personal sources, which are a travel diaries. In the central part of thesis we deal with more specific trip issues, as were arrivals and departures to the country and from the country, an English company and the royal court, including his ceremonies, celebrations and pastimes, dress, dining or communication, visit secular and church buildings, educational and other institutions. The thesis consist of seven chapters, the introduction and conclusion.

Photo diary

The main topic of this bachelor's thesis is the diary phenomenon, more specifically diary as a form of art or other visual form, such as photography. The purpose of its theoretical part is to briefly describe the general evolution of the traditional diaries and personal journals and subsequently deal with the diary as a specific form of art piece. This part also introduces Czech visual artists who used to work/still work with the diary phenomenon creatively - Vladimír Fuka, Jiří Kolář, Josef Jindřich Šechtl and František Skála. Theoretical part also deals with the new contemporary virtual forms of diaries such as personal websites, blogs and social networking sites, shows some of their specific examples (chosen from unique public social network profiles/accounts as well as from interesting online art projects). and describes generally the brief history of this phenomenon. The practical part of the thesis introduces author's own photographic diary project consisting of everyday photos taken to show personal feelings during her study stay abroad. A comparison of Jaromir Bosak's television commentary and his book football dairies

In this thesis I examine verbal expression of Jaromír Bosák, one of the most recognized commentators of live football matches employed in Czech television. I focus on two international tournaments - FIFA World Cup France 1998 and European championship UEFA Euro 2012 Poland-Ukraine. Afterwards I analyze Bosák's football diaries, which he creates during such tournaments and they are named Jaromír Bosák's French diary and Jaromír Bosák's football diary from Poland and Ukraine. Based on linguistic definition of distinction between verbal and written expression I get some of the primary premises. They are examined and compared with real situation in Bosák's books and commentary. As a result we may consider how much are said linguistic definitions applicable on whichever expression. After that I take a swift look on Bosák's television commentary in a different way and try to determine the main elements, which he had evolved during the fourteen examined years. In purpose of understanding all coherency in this subject this thesis contains a profile of Jaromír Bosák, list of basic differences between the language of spoken and written text as well as theoretical description of sport commentary as a genre.
