Development of Vienna and Budapest in the 2nd half of 19th century and their approaching the idea of being a modern metropolis

This bachelor thesis examines the development of Vienna and Budapest between 1850 and 1914. The author created a definition of the modern industrial metropolis and the structure of the thesis follows the development of the both cities toward this ideal. First theoretical chapter shows the complex problems of researching the phenomenon of cities and introduces the definition of modern industrial metropolis. This concept serves as the complex approach, how to follow the most important changes in the structure of the cities. Next chapters target the specific aspects of changes in a social structure, an infrastructure, an economy and cultural functions of Vienna and Budapest. The conclusion examines the success of Budapest and Vienna in reaching the characteristic chapters of the modern industrial metropolis. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Ödön von Horváth - The Development of the Individual in Modern Popular Plays

This thesis deals with different types of individuals in modern popular plays of Ödön von Horváth. In the first part the development of popular plays is outlined from its beginnings to the present, and there also is a brief description of the Vienna theaters at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Followed by an analysis of the characters in Horváths popular plays, which are: "The Mountain Railroad", "Tales from the Vienna Wood", "Italian Night" and "Kasimir and Karoline".
Threepenny Opera in Berlin, Prague and Vienna. The Play by Bertolt Brecht and Its Three Stage Productions

This diploma thesis deals with the theatre play The Threepenny Opera by the German playwright Bertolt Brecht. The first part contains a formal analysis and a content interpretation of this literary work. This analysis is used as a basis for the second part of the thesis, which contains the description and comparison of three stage productions of the play in the theatres in three different European capitals between 2007 and 2011. These theaters are: The Berliner Ensemble, The National Theatre in Prague and The Volkstheater in Vienna.
Literary reflexions of Vienna in Knapp's novel "Herrn Kukas Empfehlungen"

The work deals with the theme reflections of Vienna, which is to be understood in the context of a specific literary work. The researched book is called "Herrn Kukas Empfehlungen". The author is an Austrian-Polish writer Radek Knapp. The story that Radek Knapp in "Herrn Kukas Empfehlungen" describes, tells about the journey of a young Poles to Vienna and his stay there. Radek Knapp creates a reflection of Vienna by presenting Vienna by the main protagonists. This image or reflection of Vienna will be analyzed and commented.

Title: Development ot the Status of Prague - Tourist Destination in the Central European Space Author: Veronika Dumbrovská Department: Social Geography and Regional Development Supervisor: RNDr. Dana Fialová, Ph.D. Abstract The objective of this thesis is to analyse the development of the status of Prague as a destination of city tourism in Central European since 1989. Prague, the Czech capital, is compared to other capitals in the region - Berlin, Vienna, Bratislava, Warsaw, and Budapest. The research is focused especially on a comparison between Prague on the one hand and Vienna and Budapest on the other in the period 2003-2011. For the research presented in the submitted thesis, secondary data from national statistical offices of the selected countries and specialized statistical databases were used. This quantitative research has been combined with qualitative studies. Since 1989, Prague has transformed from a destination of "former Eastern bloc" into a destination comparable with major cities of Western Europe. The development of tourism in Prague has been rapid and misbalanced. Tourism impact on Prague is higher than in other capitals of Central Europe, especially in its historical centre. Politico-social aspects of remodelling of Vinna at the turn of the century throws light on the reasons and effects of liberál period in Austria-Hungary and its reflecting in the face of the city. Most attention is given to the street itselves, its genesis and its meaning. Rightly the buildings, parks and memorials in singles have huge symbolical meanings. They inpersonate ideas of the period.

The supplying of Schwarzenberg households in the second half of the 17th century

The thesis consists of several parts discussing the issue of the supplying of aristocratic homes in the Baroque period. Everything was done on the example of the Schwarzenberg households between the years 1656 and 1683, during the reign of Jan Adolf I. of Schwarzenberg. The first part involves the organization of the servants in his household. The second part deals with looking at the residence of his wife Marie Justine from Schwarzenberg, born in Starhemberg, Prague, around 1658. On the basis of their personal accounts, the authors presented this reconstruction supplying her household in Prague and a wider analysis of potential internal view of the expenditures in the category of alms. The following chapter deals with food supplies for Jan Adolf I's wife's household at Trebon. The last part relates to the analysis of transport of food to Schwarzenberg households in Vienna in the third quarter of the 17th century, part of which is closer to the probe focused on local supply and consumption of alcohol.
