Attitudes toward the death penalty in the Czech Republic

My diploma work follows up Czech Republic inhabitants' attitudes toward the death penalty. It also describes changes in death penalty perception in terms of historical aspect, its presentation to public society, changes in approach to death penalty and violence in general over time. It deals with execution types development, executioner's social position and craft. It brings elementary thoughts of advocates and opponents of the death penalty and describes related contemporary situation in the world. All these chapters are included for broader context description to allow me better use and identify results from the survey. The other part of my diploma work is survey with focus on attitudes toward the death penalty in Czech Republic. It was conducted in 2012-13, based on online respondent panel, with use of quantitative methods. This market research survey was executed on Millward Brown Czech Republic online panel with sample of 821 respondents. Results basically deliver knowledge of relation between attitudes toward the death penalty and sociodemographics, main arguments for and against the death penalty, clarifies the relation between attitudes toward the death penalty and some factors such as experience with crime or death penalty basic facts knowledge. Death, Murder, Manslaughte As a Medial Topic The subject of this diploma thesis is the analysis of the texts which concern violent death. Printed media articles and articles from news portals on the internet are being analysed. The work focuses on the manner death is presented and how the picture of the dead and of the manslayer is created. How the words "murder" and "manslaughter" alternate in various cases, their euphemisms and their relationship to reality is being researched. The method of stylistic and content analysis are being used.

This thesis called "Crime of murder under Section 140 of the Criminal Code, criminal-law and criminological aspects" focuses mainly on description of variety aspects connected with the above mentioned crime. It does not thus concentrate only on a legal standpoint. In the beginning, it contains history of legal regulation of the crime of murder, depiction of punishment for such crime in a "historical" area of the Czech Republic within past centuries, as well as development of principles governing the main criminal codes (or regulations) throughout history. Term and principle of protection of the human life is, as an integral part and key term of the thesis, mentioned therein including very precise and detailed definition of the commencement and termination of the human life such moment being very important for determination whether the murder may have been, in certain cases, committed or not. Actually, right to life is also one of essential notions used also in international-law treaties and declarations whose list is also contained in the thesis. OF THE THESIS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE The methodology of murder investigation (selected issues) The methodology of murder investigation is one of the areas of the special criminalistics, which attends to the methods of investigation of individual criminal offenses. In consideration of the variability of murders and of the overall natural development of the company, it is necessary to be consulting also the methodology of investigation as the process which is dynamic and subject to the development. One of the essential and the relatively unknown phenomenon in this area of the last time was the increase in committed murders made to order - hired murders. This type of murder is at the same time often the link with another relatively new phenomenon of post-revolutionary period in the territory of the Czech Republic, the organized crime. The bachelor thesis consists of two parts. The first part is a translation of selected chapters from the book written by Tony Parker The Violence of Our Lives: Interviews with Life- Sentence Prisoners in America, which was published in London in 1996 by HarperCollins Publishers. The second part of this thesis is a commentary on the translation based on Christiane Nord's model of translation analysis. The commentary includes a translation analysis; it focuses according to relevance on extratextual and intratextual factors and on various translation problems that occurred in the process. The commentary describes strategies for dealing with the problems as well as the typology of translation shifts that occurs in the target text. It concludes that the text is expressive and embedded in the source culture.

107 Forms of crime committed by organized crime - Abstract The aim of this work was to map the range of criminal offenses and other criminal acts perpetrated by perpetrators of organized crime. Members and supporters of criminal organizations commit a large number of different offenses, primarily with the intention of obtaining illegal profits. However, some actions aim at legalizing previous revenues, establishing contacts in police, justice, and public administration, or to prevent these groups from being exposed. A specific crime may have multiple meanings in the overall strategy of the organized crime subject. Such an act is committed to both profits and cover- up (eg murder, extortion). This work is divided into three parts. The first part, consisting of Chapter 1, deals with the theoretical and legal definition of organized crime and other related concepts, such as organized groups and organized criminal groups. This diploma thesis addresses the issues of the murder investigation methodology. It is divided systematically into four chapters. First three chapters may be perceived by the reader as the fundamentals of the thesis aiming at contextualizing and highlighting the final chapter which bears the core ideas and findings. Chapter One deals with crime against life from the perspective of the criminal law in the Czech Republic. An account of legal definitions of murder, manslaughter and murder of a new-born infant by its mother, as defined in the Criminal Code, is offered in the chapter. Certain features of the constituent elements of those crimes are compared and commented on in greater detail. Chapter Two presents murder in view of criminology and includes the statistical data regarding the intentional homicide rate within the Czech Republic. As for the statistical data, it is predominantly recent and up-to-date. However, there may also be included statistical data gathered over an extended period of time which better demonstrate the dynamics of crime development. Murder and manslaughter within the Czech criminal law

The crimes of murder and manslaughter described in this thesis consist in intentional killing of other person. These crimes are very serious ones and are contained in the first part of first chapter of Act No. 40/2009 Coll. the Criminal Code, as amended, and attack against one of the highest and the most protected interest - the human life. The aim of this thesis is to provide its reader with a rather complex and well arranged description of the above-mentioned crimes from the criminology and criminal law standpoint. The author tried to capture the most essential differences between the murder and manslaughter, both being often called the intentional killing. The author endeavors to briefly outline in this thesis a historical development of legal regulation of intentional killing from the past to the present day. The thesis also defines the human life, the moment of its commencement and termination as a crucial moment from which the crimes of murder and manslaughter are considered accomplished. 1 A comparison between Manslaughter in the English and Czech law Abstract The thesis compares the Czech and English legal regulations of the crime of manslaughter. As such, it is divided into an introduction, six parts and a conclusion. It aims to provide not only a comprehensive analysis of the crime of manslaughter in both legal orders, including a subsequent comparison, but also the possible adoption of certain institutes from one legal order to the other. In the first part, it deals with the issue of the differences between the two legal systems, i.e., continental and Anglo-Saxon, as well as with the general interpretation of the crime of murder and manslaughter. In doing so, it introduces the structure of the formal sources, the interrelationship between murder and manslaughter, and the terminology of manslaughter in England. In the second part, it provides an analysis of the facts of the crime of manslaughter, with the actus reus and the mens rea being analysed more extensively than through the fragmentary optics of the crime of manslaughter. Particular emphasis is then placed on causation.
