Jungmann's translation of Paradise Lost

This thesis examines Josef Jungmann's translation of Milton's Paradise Lost. Josef Jungmann was one of the leading figures of the Czech National Revival and translated Milton's poem between the years 1800 and 1804. The thesis thoroughly describes the Czech cultural situation at the beginning of the 19th century, covers Jungmann's theoretical model of translation and presents Jungmann's motives for translation of Milton's epic poem. The paper also describes the aims Jungmann had with his translation and whether he has achieved them. Also described is the reception Jungmann's translation received after it was published and its significance for the Czech literature. Primarily, this thesis focuses on detailed translation analysis of how Jungmann's translation compares prosodically, lexically and stylistically to the original and the first Polish translation. It also explores assumptions of some scholars who claimed that Jungmann's translation was indirect. Key words: Josef Jungmann, John Milton, Czech National Revival, indirect translation, neologism
The language of medical reports and its information-lexical analysis

The objective of the dissertation thesis has been the information-lexical analysis of Czech medical reports and the usability of international classification systems in the Czech healthcare environment. The analysis of medical reports has been based on the attributes of the Minimal Data Model for Cardiology (MDMC). Narrative medical reports and structured medical reports from the ADAMEK software application have been used. For the thesis SNOMED CT and ICD-10 classification systems have been used. There has been compared how well attributes of MDMC are recorded in narrative and structured medical reports. The language analysis of the Czech narrative medical reports has been made. A new application for measuring diversity in medical reports written in any language is proposed. The application is based on the general concepts of diversities derived from f-diversity, relative f- diversity, self f-diversity and marginal f-diversity. The thesis has come to the conclusion that using a free text in medical reports is not consistent and not standardized. The standardized terminology would bring benefits to physicians, patients, administrators, software developers and payers and it would help healthcare providers as it could provide complete and easily accessible information that belongs to the process of...
Commented translation of a teaching material for electrical engineering

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na překlad skript z oblasti elektrotechniky s cílem přeložit a analyzovat odborný text. Přeložená skripta budou pak používána k výuce technických předmětů se zaměřením na analogovou technikou. Práce má dvě části. Praktickou část, která prezentuje kapitolu ze skript přeloženou z českého do anglického jazyka, a analytickou část, kde je poskytnut rozbor přeloženého textu, včetně příkladů, který se převážně zaměřuje na shody a rozdíly ve vyjádření informace mezi českým původním a anglicky přeloženým textem.

Účelem této semestrální práce je dozvědět čím je E-learning a odkud to příšlo, popsat historii vytváření electoního studia a pochopit klady a zápory tohoto typu školení. A samozřejmě pochopit, je takový studium efektivní nebo ne. Práce je rozdělena do sedm hlavních částí: definice, formy e-learningu, historie e-learningu, výhody e-learningu, nevýhod elektronického elektronického učení, vliv na vyučovací proces. Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na analýzu práce zástupců "e-learningu". Popis procesu učení jazyka a efektivity výuky angličtiny prostřednictvím e-learningu. Příspěvek popisuje proces výuky angličtiny pomocí dvou elektronických platforem. První objekt je placená online škola, největší společnost studující angličtinu ve východní Evropě. Druhou částí práce je bezplatná mobilní aplikace zaměřená na vývoj a výuku angličtiny, nejoblíbenější aplikace na světě v sekci online školení. Informace o firmách, historii vzniku a principy práce používané v aplikacích jsou prezentovány formou přehledu firem.
Names of trees: design of a multilingual terminological database

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of terminology databases, including the creation of a terminology database that incorporates names of trees in Latin, Italian and Czech language. In the first part lexicography, terminography and terminology, disciplines related to the topic of the thesis, are presented. It includes also the summary of their historical development and introduces some basic notions associated with them, such as term, nomenclature, taxonomy, etc. Basic differences between terminography and lexicography and between terminological dictionaries and databases are briefly presented as well. The practical part describes basic methods and procedures used while creating the terminology database in Microsoft Access 2016. The database is also enclosed with the thesis and contains names of trees in Latin, Czech and Italian and some additional information related to those names.
Terminology in the field of the Industrial property law of and Analysis of equivalent

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to present the terminology of Czech industrial property rights and to find or to suggest the translation of these terms into French. The paper is composed of two main parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part firstly focuses on the basics of the legal language and its uses and then on the introduction to the methods and principals of translation when translating a legal text. In the first section of the practical part the evolution of industrial property rights is presented, with a focus on international conventions relating to this field. The main part consists of the presentation of the legal terms used in Czech law, which are then found in Czech-French dictionaries and the results of this research are then confronted with French law and the international conventions with the aim of finding appropriate legal language equivalents. This work is concluded with a French-Czech glossary and a summary in French.
The Terrible Twos: A translation and stylistic analysis of a passage of Ishmael Reed's novel

This bachelor thesis consists of two parts. The first is comprised of a side-by-side translation of five selected chapters from the novel The Terrible Twos from the English to the Czech language. The second, theoretical part is formed by a stylistic analysis of this translation. This part is further divided into multiple sections dealing with the morphological, lexical and the syntactical level of the two languages. The most developed level of these three is the lexical one since it was the most challenging issue that had to be dealt with. Both Czech and English source books formed the basis for the theoretical part. The authors of the prominent publications were for instance Dagmar Knittlová, Jiří Levý, and Peter Newmark.

Účelem této bakalářské práce je překlad česky psaného technického textu do jazyka anglického a analýza rozdílů mezi oběma jazyky, jež se vyskytují v překladu. Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních částí: teoretický úvod, překlad technického textu a analýza překladu. Teoretický úvod se zabývá typy překladu, charakteristikou odborných textů a jejich překladem. Přeložený text je z oblasti "počítačových sítí". V závěrečné části jsou na příkladech z přeloženého textu analyzovány jazykové jevy a charakteristické rysy anglického a českého jazyka.
Romanisms in the terminology of the New Civil Code and their French equivalents

This work is concerned with romanisms which appear in the terminology of Nový občanský zákoník (Czech Civil Code) and with translation of selected terms into French while special attention is paid to legal concepts. The first chapters deal with the themes of legal language and its translation, translation techniques, loanwords in the Czech language, and romanisms. The following chapter describes the research and the methodology, in addition to analyse of the received results from the perspective of found romanisms and from the perspective of searching appropriate French equivalents. The output of this thesis is a glossary which contains the selected terms and the proposed French translations.
