Testing ways of use of secondary raw materials replacing naturals aggregate.
Vašek, Tomáš ; Holák, Michal (referee) ; Hela, Rudolf (advisor)
Master's thesis consists of two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical section are listed basic information about alternative aggregates used for concrete mixture, like polystyrene, cinder and recycled concrete. Further, the influence of these alternative aggregates, used as secondary raw materials, on the behaviour and properties of fresh respectively hardened concrete. Possibilities of application concrete containing secondary raw materials are mentioned. In the practical part are experimentally verified physical and mechanical properties of concrete containing crushed waste polystyrene beads, furthermore thermal insulation properties and resistance to elevated temperatures is tested. Influence of heating plant cinder powder as active addition to concrete mixture was tested. As a next is prepared concrete with replacement of coarse aggregate by cinder and recycled concrete and tested. The influence of these secondary raw materials on workability, compressive strength, frost resistance and water permeability of concrete is also defined. The last part of research is focused on recycled concrete such as main material used in mixture of aggregates bonded with cement, dispose for base layers in roads. In conclusion are discussed results from experimental research and summary of knowledge’s about using polystyrene, cinder and recycled concrete as aggregates for concrete mixtures.
Practical approach to bulk polymerization of styrene
Pukančíková, Andrea ; Petrůj, Jaroslav (referee) ; Kučera, František (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with radical bulk polymerization of styrene. Recent knowledges about mono- and multifunctional initiators of radical polymerization and coordination polymerization of styrene with metalocene initiators are summarized in theoretical part. Experimental part of diploma thesis is focused on relationship between polymerization conditions and conversion, molecular mass and distribution of molecular mass. Experiments carried out with monofunctional initiators (dibenzoylperoxide, dilauroylperoxide, tert-butylperbenzoate) and with bifunctional initiators (Luperox 101 and Luperox 256). Polymerizations took place at temperatures from 80 to 134 °C, reaction time was from 1 to 24 hours, and pressure was 100 and 500 kPa. Conversion of monomer was determined by gravimetry and infrared spectroscopy. Molecular mass and indexes of polydisperzity were measured by gel permeation chromatography in solutions of polystyrene with tetrahydrofurane at temperature 23 °C.
Infidel?
Krnáčová, Andrea ; Fajnor, Richard (referee) ; Gabriel, Michal (advisor)
In my bachelor's thesis, I am based on my own memories of my childhood and adolescence, which I spent in the community of Jehovah's Witnesses. I liken individual memories to pieces of concrete furniture from the Kingdom Hall, which I regularly visited. I decided to process this topic using a hanging installation made entirely of polystyrene.
The study of sulphonated polystyrene nanofabrics with encapsulated sensitizer
Hrdinková, Veronika ; Mosinger, Jiří (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Pavel (referee)
The diploma thesis is dedicated to the exploitation of sulphonated polystyrene nanofibres as ion exchange nanomaterial. Ion exchange capacity of these nanomaterials has been determined by titration method and AAS. The effect of sulphonation on photophysical, photooxidative and photocytotoxic properties of sensitizer 5,10,15,20-meso- tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) encapsulated in polystyrene nanofibres has been studied as well. Properties of TPP have been examined with time-resolved spectroscopy, photooxidation of uric acid as substrate and bactericidal tests on Escherichia coli DH5α with pGEM11Z plasmid. It has been discovered that following the sulphonation of the nanofabrics, the encapsulated sensitizer is partly present even in aggregation form. The polystyrene nanofabrics with encapsulated sensitizer keep its bactericidal efficiency also after sulphonation.
Application of analytical pyrolysis for the detection of plastics and microplastics in the environment
Havlíčková, Lucie ; Cajthaml, Tomáš (advisor) ; Innemanová, Petra (referee)
The issue of microplastics is becoming increasingly important every year and so is the need for finding solutions. Plastic fragments smaller than 5 mm have already been found all over the planet in all spheres of the environment. Among the crucial factors of resolving this issue are, for example, restrictions in the production and overuse of plastic materials, unification and improvement of the waste management system, prevention of unintended release of plastic waste into the environment, the study of possible toxic effects of microplastics on living organisms, and the development of separation and detection techniques for the precise detection and identification of microplastics and nanoplastics. In recent years, the combination of pyrolysis, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry (Pyr-GC-MS) has proven to be a potentially suitable instrument for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of these plastic particles. This Master's thesis proves that the Pyr-GC-MS method can, above all, be sensitive and accurate enough for the detection of microplastics in real environmental samples, where the particles are present in very low concentrations. Due to the broad diversity of physical and chemical properties of polymers, it is highly difficult to develop a single analytical method for the whole range...
Possibilities of Using Microwave Radiation to Accelerate the Solidification of Mixtures Consisting of a Polymer Matrix Binder and a Waste Thermal Insulation Filler
Průša, David ; Šťastník, Stanislav ; Šuhajda, Karel
The presented work deals with the possibility of using the action of microwave energy on fresh mixtures consisting of a filler from waste thermal insulation expanded polystyrene and a binder from a polymer mixture to accelerate the time required for the mixture to solidify. The influence of microwave exposure time on thermal engineering material properties of mixtures was experimentally tested.
Technology of injection molding of thermoplastic test specimens
Khamzin, Yersin ; Petruš, Josef (referee) ; Kučera, František (advisor)
The diploma thesis focuses on the optimization of technological parameters of plastic injection molding and the study of the influence of technological parameters on the quality of molded test specimens’ type 1A. The quality of molded parts for 3 types of polypropylene (PP) with different melt flow rate (Mosten GB 002, Mosten GB 218, Mosten MA 230) and 1 type of polystyrene (PS) (Krasten PS GP 154) was evaluated in terms of dimensional stability and weight. The contribution of software for modeling the plastic injection molding process was evaluated in this work. SOLIDWORKS Plastics software was used to optimize technological parameters. The construction of the bodies, mold and cooling system was constructed, and test bodies were produced on the basis of parameters obtained from the simulation of the injection molding process. Their quality parameters were compared with a 3D model and for each of the studied materials the optimal technological parameters were selected in terms of quality and the degree of influence of individual injection parameters on the quality of moldings was evaluated. The accordance of the results of the theoretical simulation with the real experiment was proved and a computational module independent of the optimized quality parameters, generally suitable for optimizing the quality parameters of the injected parts, was developed.
Grandfather
Auerová, Veronika ; Sobotka, Jiří (referee) ; Gabriel, Michal (advisor)
In my bachelor thesis I portray my grandfather as a life-size sculpture. The main emphasis is on the surface treatment of the sculpture, where I imitate the texturing process using photographs, which usually takes place in a virtual environment. The resultant statue is very lively, even naturalistic.
