Social Functioning of the Netholics
BEČVÁŘOVÁ, Pavlína
Professional literature terms addiction on the internet as a netholism. At the same time the netholism is ranked among the most often types of risky additional behaviour. Presented bachelor thesis is a probe into the life of young people which have certain problem in relation to using the internet. This problem affects unfavourable their behaviour in the free time, their relationship with close surrounding, it means with those people they are frequently in contact (family, friends, acquaintance, etc.). Bachelor thesis is typically divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is engaged in the concept of social functioning and living situation of an individual. Also it describes how an addiction come into existence, how it is defined, for what is marked, divides the types of the addicts and introduce with the term of an addiction. Presents which modern communicational instruments netholics use at the same time and with which troubles they can meet during their using. At the end of the theoretical part there are presented various solves of an addictional problem with the internet recommended by the authors of the professional literature. The practical part is processed by the assistance of qualitative research strategy. In this place I have chosen the asking method and the technic of self-structure dialogue for gaining of material to next processing of datas. The analysis of interviews of five voluntary informants from 19 to 25 years is contained in this part. Their selection take place by the methods of snowball sampling, when I got contacts to next people, from the first addressing participants, which could fulfil conditions for my research. I sent the test of an internet addiction to potential netholics, and the addiction was confirmed or disproved with the aid of so called "The Chen internet addiction scale". I analysed datas by means of open coding, axial coding and selective coding. After that in discussion I answered to prepared research questions in advance. I have decided to make the thesis on theme "Social functioning of the netholics" out of the reason that I wanted to continue in graduate thesis from college institute where I dealt with the influence of (all) media on youth. I felt that it is necessary to aim only one medium and simultaneously explore his deeper influence to group which is close to me by its age: "the young adults". In this thesis I wanted to find out how internet influences young people in the context of their close social surrounding. The aim of work was to describe how the netholism subjectively changes social interactions and relationships. In the context of this aim it was made the main research question: "How an approach of the internet and his next excessive using influenced the life of informants in their social surrounding?" I answered this question by means of another next research questions: "What is the reason of their change according to the informants?" "How the internet influenced the leisure time activities at informants?" "How the internet influenced the relationships with friends and family?" Out of the results it follows that the netholics look support in social sphere on the internet (they have fear of a personal interaction, or they are solitary and this means of communication is more comfortable for them). Their behaviour point at their own weeknesses in interpersonal communication and interactions between them and their social surrounding. The replacing of personal communication by the written communication (chating) has the side effect that the certain group of people prefer shallow chating on the internet, and it with absolute foreign people, to interaction with close social surrounding. It can have consequence incomprehension and arguments between netholics and their immediate social surrounding.
