Prošková, Nikola ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Říchová, Blanka (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with detailed characteristic of the transformation of the british Labour Party in 1979 - 1994. The core of the work is to provide a deep insight into organizational and personal structure of the party and to analyse party's policy statements. The 1979 ended Labour Party's government performance for a long time. The aim of this work is to observe organizational as well as ideological changes by which the party reacts to its own unsatisfactory electoral results. Finding the reasons why approved modifications did not help the party to win general elections is absolutely crucial. The period before 1979 including the description of international situation and electoral change is described in the opening part to outline initial conditions of further observed stretch of time. Afterwards particular periods between general elections are presented themselves. A full image of problems pursuing labours between 1979 and 1994 is given by analysing manifestos, organization of the party, development of pre-election campaigns and public opinion. The one of the main cause leading to the long-term lack of success was voter's displeasing experience with the last government of the Labour Party. Economic problems profoundly connected with the stagflation, repeated strikes and culminating into...

Kližanová, Júlia ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Kasáková, Zuzana (referee)
In this thesis the author is concerned with relationship between trade unions and the Edward Heath government from 1970 to 1974. This thesis will be also concerned with period of time before the Edward Heath government. It will be describing the development of relationship between post-war governments and trade unions. The author will be describing the Labour party government (1945-51), Conservative party government (1951-64) and again the Labour party government (1964-70). We can divide the period of Conservative party government into two parts. During the first one, which is set between 1970 to 1972, the government was trying to change the post-war consensus and undermine the influence of trade unions. During this period the main part of legislation was introduced, which was aimed to improve the relationship with trade unions and limit its influence. Then the thesis will be concerned with miners strike in 1972, which led to the change of governments policy. It will be also describing the last years of the government. During these years the government was not able to challenge the demands of trade unions, as well, the bad economic situation. The most important event of this period was again miners strike in 1974, which led to the fall of Conservative party government. The aim of this thesis will...

The Social and Political Regulation of Labour Migration: The Case of the Czech Republic
Čaněk, Marek ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Kostelecký, Tomáš (referee) ; Woolfson, Charles (referee)
This dissertation is about the changes in the regulation of labour migration in the Czech Republic, specifically between the period of economic boom in 2007 and 2008 and the beginning of the global economic and financial crisis. The developments of labour migration processes and policies were studied in relation to the political economy of foreign direct investment and the rise of the competition state in the Czech Republic. The materialisation of these developments resulted in the Czech Republic's further integration into the global labour market. Labour migration policy changes in the case of the Green Card project, however, did not confirm the thesis that the Czech Republic's migration policy eventually became subordinated to the competition state project. Not only did the Ministry of Industry and Trade lack bureaucratic capital in the field of migration regulation but also, there were tensions between different notions of the competition state project while 'migration management' was reorganised in the interest of the Ministry of the Interior. Closely following struggles over the regulation of labour migration in the administrative and political fields, this dissertation contributes to literature on the labour migration perspective of the competition state. The migration crisis is studied from...
Phenomenon of Strik: Analysis of the Dynamics of Industrial Conflicts in Contemporary France
Sabová, Katarína ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis aims to outline the different dynamics of strike activity and thus understand the basic principles of industrial conflicts in France in the 90s of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century. To study this problem we decided to use a dual approach. A quantitative one, which helped us to critically evaluate the statistical resources of the Ministry of Labour and to made first assumptions about decline of strike activity in France. We used as well qualitative approach in order to understand the use of strikes in various conflict situations. We tried, based on several practical examples of protests, to identify the factors and mechanisms explaining the constraints that may prevent representatives of trade unions use strikes as mobilization agents. Last but not least, our study is realized in the context of the ongoing debate in the French academic environment regarding the conversion of the repertoire of collective action. Unlike works that try to apprehend this transformation giving emphasis on the "new" forms of protest, our goal was to answer questions leading to an understanding of the conditions of continuation of the strike as a traditional way of collective struggle.
The Media Image of the Campaign "Děkujeme, odcházíme" in Selected Czech Daily Press
Koppitz, Radim ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
The Media Image of the Campaign "Děkujeme, odcházíme" in Selected Czech Daily Press Abstract The aim of the thesis is to analyze an overall image of the "Děkujeme, odcházíme" ("Thank you, we are leaving") campaign in two Czech dailies - Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny. The protest campaign run by medical unions resulted from the fact that doctors in Czech hospitals had not been satisfied both with their salary and working conditions. The unions asked a professional PR agency to manage the campaign, which is why the campaign was in the end much more effective and successful than any of the previous attempts. Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as a method for this research. Content of dailies is being analyzed from several aspects - overall coverage of the topic, its development over time, analysis of how media presented key motives for doctors' wanting to leave the hospitals, analysis of negative aspects of doctors' leaving and their development in time, evaluation of balanced access of conflict's key parties and their actors to the media and also an analysis of preferences of the media articulated via opinion texts. The research covers the period from May 2010, the actual beginning of the campaign, to April 2011, i.e. - just two months after the peak of the campaign. Theoretical part...

Seemanová, Petra ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis "Structure of Trade-Union's Press Between 1948-1956" is focused on the period from 25th February 1948 till 26th February 1956. The first part is mainly focused on the situation within this period. Firstly it was needed to mention the historical background with focus on the official state policy. This thesis describes also the development of The Revolution Trade-Unions (ROH), which was done in its way as reflection on the state policy. For the better understanding there is described the situations of the Czech press in generally, as trade-union's press reflected that as well. The second and third part is firstly focused how trade-union's press was working; it means its organisation-structure, distribution, promotion or archival-collection-process. This work is concerned also on the editorial site - there is focus on the redactors and their tasks. As the examples of redactors there are mentioned two personalities: František Dvořák and Jiří Síla. Both of them did significant work for trade-union-press and it is interesting to put the light on their lives within 1948-1956. In more details there is described the issue of "work- writers", who should have created the "spine" of Trade-Union's press. The publishing company Práce and its business have to be described as this was the...
Europeanization of the selected actors of the Czech social policy
Nigová, Eva ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
This thesis deals with the Europeanization of the selected Czech social policy actors, among them some trade unions and non-governmental organizations. It examines their changes in some particular areas: in an organizational structure, in financial resources, in activities, in interests, in the used argumentation towards representatives of state power and in attitudes to the cooperation with partners from the other EU countries. These changes are observed thanks to the country's accession to the EU and/or thanks to the actors' membership in the European interest groups. The thesis tries to prove that these changes have been caused, at first, by the misfit among the Czech actors and their counterparts from the other EU member states. In the latter case it assesses if it is possible to attribute changes to socialization into the European interest groups. It also focuses on the fact whether there have been suitable conditions for the social learning of the observed actors. The questionnaire and secondary literature have been used for the evaluation. It has been proved that the concept of misfit is not suitable for these cases and thus the observed changes cannot be ascribed to this concept. Another situation occurs when evaluating changes resulting from socialization. There has been shown that the...
