Cocaine abuse in the Czechoslovak republic in 1918 - 1938

Backround: Cocaine is an addictive substance which was very popular during the First republic in higher society, although there was no historical tradition of its use. Interest in foreign culture, however, brought many phenomena to the Czechoslovak Republic, including drugs - hashish, morphine and cocaine. Aim: The aim of this work is to chart cocaine abuse in the Czechoslovak Republic during the First republic and describe this period in the context of drug use. Methods: I used content analysis of documents for data collection. The documents were categorized according the years of their release. I used text documents, sound and video recordings. Text documents were most often historical newspaper articles published during the First republic, but also literatue dealing with the relevant issues published in the later period. I also searched for sources from already published documents. Results and conclusion: Cocaine was abused in the Czechoslovak Republic during the First republic abundantly. At first, it was promoted as a miracle cure for the treatment of morphineism and also for its local anesthetic effect. Before long, however, its dependency potencial became apparent. Gendarmerie and criminal activity in the microregion Jindřichohradecko between 1918 and 1938

This bachelor thesis deals with Czechoslovakian gendarmerie in the microregion Jindřichův Hradec and Kunžak at the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic. The aim of the thesis is to introduce the everyday life of the gendarmerie, its personnel composition and criminal activity. The first chapter deals with the history of gendarmerie from the ancient and medieval foundations to the Habsburg government. The following chapter describes the organization, training and performance of the service in the newly established Czechoslovak State. The third chapter deals with the landscape, cultural and political environment in both areas. The core of the thesis is the last fourth chapter, which shows the activities of the Jindřichův Hradec gendarmerie, criminal activity and compares both gendarmes.

The diploma thesis describes the various aspects of an advertising in the period of Czechoslovakia. It follows the continuity of an interwar advertising culture in the cultural and historical context of the time. Furthermore it poses a different beliefs of advertising culture compared to today on the one hand and a very modern approach of advertising through the use of new media, advertising tactics, the amount of advertising studios or innovative design on the other hand. On the theoretical background is established an interpretation of selected product advertising posters to reveal unifying characteristics of poster creation of the time. At the final part is searched for a continuity and use of the topic in present art education.

This thesis discusses the general education in Czech lands during the formation of the first Czechoslovakian Republic. It introduces the term general education, which is nearly forgotten nowadays, even though several sections of general education are adopted in new science branches, such as andragogy. The thesis describes general education during its biggest expansion and people's interest, which resulted especially from the excitement about the formation of the independent Czechoslovakian country and from people's self-education desires. By researching the position of general education in Czechoslovakia, we can better understand the principles which today's adult education is based on, and how has the ideas of general education reflected in our perception of the Czechoslovakian society. The first part of the thesis introduces an outline of the historical development of Czechoslovakian Republic during its formation, an organisational structure of public administration at the end of the Habsburg Monarchy, and the form of general education before 1918. The Plans of the Czechoslovak Resistance-In-Exile for the Post-War Organization of Czechoslovakia and Central Europe in the Period of 1938-1945

This bachelor thesis aims to describe the Czechoslovak resistance plans for the post- war organization of Czechoslovakia which were to be implemented after the end of the Second World War but have never been accomplished. Firstly, the situation in the Czechoslovak resistance is presented. The paper discusses the formation of the Czechoslovak resistance, its transformation into the Czechoslovak government-in-exile, activities of the resistance and problems which needed to be dealt with. This part is essential for understanding latter chapters of the paper. The plans for the post-war organization of Czechoslovakia are studied in the main part of the thesis. The paper features concepts concerning topics such as potential territorial changes, federalisation of Central Europe (including the Czechoslovak-Polish Confederation project), future political system, and the Sudeten German issue. Each concept is described in the context of its background, its development over the course of war, and position of the Allies. The thesis explains the reasons why these plans were abandoned and not carried out after the end of the war.
Military Chaplaincy in the Czechoslovak Army in the years 1918?1939 with special emphasis on the Roman Catholic Church

This dissertation deals with the history of military chaplaincy in the space of the historic Czech lands. It mainly focuses interwar period of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. The first part of this work deals with the history of activities of military clergymen until the time of founding of the First Republic and briefly passes through a period of many centuries. Then it informs about founding of Czechoslovak Army after year 1918. It notes especially the receipt and development of military chaplaincy until the reorganization of the armed forces in the thirties. Also, it informs about the development in a stable chaplaincy and about its general organization, both in peacetime and in time of the state of emergency. The next section informs about the activities of chaplains in different specific environments. The most comprehensive fifth chapter is dedicated to the life stories of individual chaplains. The consequential part shows life and work of the last chief of military chaplains General Jaroslav Janák. These biographies are key resources for understanding the real duty life of catholic military priests. This dissertation is primarily compiled on the bases of archive resources.

This bachelor thesis describes the time context and the life of Adolf Němec. It presents the situation before his life to put his life into the historical context. The period he lived in was not easy - the time after the First World War, the economic crisis and then the Second World War and finally the rise of communism after the war. His risky escape across the border could have cost him his life if it had not been succesful. Adolf Němec was a brave man. He was not afraid to leave his family he never saw again. He did not hasitate to go to a foreign country where people spoke a language he almost didn´t know, practically off into the wilderness, where he faced death.

This thesis is about the proffesional life of Milada Paulová. The thesis deals with the reaction of the historical community to her decision to focuson contemporary history (origin of the Czechoslovak Republik, Czechoslovakia South Slavic cooperation of rebels from the First World War). This decision caused her many problems (for example her nomination as a professor and the conflict between her an her teacher Jaroslav Bidlo). Three books by Milada Paulová (Jugoslavenski odbor. Povijest jugoslovenské emigracije za svjetsko rata od 1914-1918, Jihoslovanský odboj a česká Maffie I. díl. Chorvatská politika za světové války do otevření říšské rady ve Vídni v květnu 1917 (1914 -1917) a Dějiny Maffie. Odboj Čechů a Jihoslovanů za první světové války 1914 -1918 ) are compared in the last part of the thesis.
The Attitudes of the Witnesses to the Transfer of the Germans from Czechoslovakia after the Second World War

This diploma thesis is focused on the attitudes of the witnesses to the transfer of Germans from Czechoslovakia after the second world war (WWII). The aim of the thesis are attitudes of the eye witnesses of the incidents of the WWII and incidents that happened directly after the WWII to this issue, as well as to find out why is this their attitude and if this attitude wasn't possibly changed in passing years. The work consists of a contextual part, where is analyzed relevant literature and where is created a picture of the context of the times before the transfer and the times of the transfer and all this in the light of nationalist phenomenon. The work also contains a research part of a qualitative survey, an empirical survey. The research approach is biographical approach and narative and narative semistructured interviews were chosen as a data collective method. The research as well as its subsequent analysis are based on the methodological literature.
