Utilization of Educational Attainment of Foreign Migrant Workers in the Czech Labour Market
Valenta, Ondřej
This doctoral thesis addresses one of the most significant topics in contemporary research in international migration; that is the education-occupation mismatch of highly qualified foreign workers in the labour market of a host country. The thesis focuses on the situation in the Czech labour market in the time-period between 2009 and 2016. By the possibility to utilize a unique set of non-public, anonymized individual data on foreign employment this thesis provides a first thorough empirical evidence on the level of mismatch of skilled migrant workers in the Czech labour market, with a dominant focus on quantitative approach to the given issue. Results of the research reveal that the mismatch between the migrant employees' attained (tertiary) and required education at their job occupations on the Czech labour market does exist and it is encountered by 20-30 % of tertiary educated foreign workers; moreover, level of mismatch has been gradually increasing over the given time-period. The differences in the level of mismatch then fundamentally differ across particular citizenship groups. The resulting level of mismatch of highly skilled foreign workers in the Czech labour market seems to be driven predominantly by broader social and economic drivers. More specifically, these are particularly a limited...

Based on classification and rating of SR activities in selected institutions that was reached through qualitative research (the analysis of the current state) in accordance with ISO 26000, there was suggested an official integration of SR principles to the organisations of tertiary education and CSR reporting. Furthermore, CSR should be integrated to study plans of private HEIs in form of a special course. The recommendations also aim to areas of communication with stakeholders, sustainable development, and community engagement.
Propagace studia PEF v rusky mluvících zemích
Alekseeva, Anastasiia
A visible increase in the number of students from Russian speaking countries, who are interested in obtaining higher education, is observed nowadays in the Czech Republic. This fact provides a good opportunity for the Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno to attract foreign students and improve the quality of the study process due to the strong competition among the applicants and potential students. The aim of this bachelor thesis is a proposal of an electronic promotional campaign in the Russian speaking countries, presenting the possibility of studying at the FBE MENDELU. A promotional campaign on the Internet is proposed after a deep study of the educational system of the former USSR countries and collecting a survey from potential and existing students of the FBE MENDELU.
Plagiarism in the opinions of FRDIS students
Herbočková, Lucie
In the last decade, plagiarism is a frequent form of misconduct in the academic environment in the Czech Republic. The aim of this study was to analyze the attitudes toward, perceptions of, and understanding of plagiarism among students of the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies, Mendel University in Brno. The questionnaire was administered between May and July 2018 to 249 students enrolled in the Summer Semester 2017/2018 at the FRDIS, including students of Bachelor and Master Study programs. The findings indicated that citation literacy and awareness of plagiarism have been briefly discussed in the faculty’s curriculum. The knowledge and understanding of plagiarism among respondents were quite high; however, many students are still intentionally plagiarizing. One of the main problems is the lack of citation ethics education every study year, which brings a high level of uncertainty in students’ minds. The respondents lacked comprehensive information about and solutions for the issues of citation ethics and plagiarism. There is a need to introduce a plagiarism policy and its consequences as well as shedding more light on citation ethics in general. Moreover, it is crucial to create materials, including lectures, courses, and online manuals to help students feel more confident while referring to citation sources.

Panfilova, Kaselina ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
1 University education of foreigners in the Czech Republic Abstract The thesis examines evolution, trends and structures of foreigners in tertiary education sector in the Czech Republic and at the same time aims at finding common aspects or differences between students with Czech citizenship and without it. In the theoretical part of examining university education for foreigners the concept of third demographic transition has been applied. The Associated Student Register Information (SIMS) has been used as the main data source. In this thesis, the analysis is based on individual anonymized data of graduates in the period between 2001 and 2017. The analysis focuses on net duration of study with such independent variables as gender, age, study field, form of study, type of university and citizenship. The analytical part also examines the relationship between gender and its possible dependence on citizenship, study field and on the net duration of study. One of the conclusions of this work is that the number of Czech students has been progressively decreasing in the last few years, while the number of foreign students in the Czech Republic is growing. Still, the net duration of study is shorter for Czech graduates than for foreigners, with an exception of Slovak students with a shorter net duration of study...

Comparison of unemployment rates of czech university graduates based on various factors
Ryba, Lukáš ; Brázdilová, Michaela (advisor) ; Vltavská, Kristýna (referee)
Observating unemployment of Czech university graduates while using different characteristics of them is a good foundation for evaluating their employability. Comparing unemployment rates between groups of students sorted for example by a study focus, type of a study program, or a gender can be valuable for evaluating actual work opportunities. Detailed analysis of the unemployment rates by different factors can also bring new knowledge regarding employment of the university graduates. Goal of this thesis is to compare the unemployment rates of the Czech university graduates by some of their key characteristics, and to evaluate the progression of aforementioned characteristics.

The Price Elasticity of the Demand for Higher Education: A Meta-Analysis
Kiiashko, Olesia ; Havránek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Korbel, Václav (referee)
The main question of this study is whether the demand for higher education is relatively sensitive to tuition fee changes or is price inelastic. There is no definite answer in the literature. Approximately 52% of the estimates show it to be insignificant, 43% rate it as statistically negative, and approximately 5% are statistically positive. In a quantitative survey of 562 estimates reported in 48 studies, it has been found that large increases in tuition fees have a disproportionately negative impact on enrollment when potential publication bias and method heterogeneity are taken into account. The publication bias tests show that negative results are more preferable among researchers, because it is well supported by theory (when prices increase demand decreases). The results also suggest that four aspects of study design are especially effective in explaining the differences across primary studies: (1) the longer time period negatively associated with the price c of demand for higher education, (2) while the cross sectional estimations have reported more negative results, panel data estimations have reported fewer negative results, (3) controlling for endogeneity is crucial, (4) while controlling for unemployment rate has no clear conclusive impact, controlling for income is not significantly...
