Fungi in the Teaching of Natural History and Biology

This diploma thesis deals with mushrooms (Fungi) and their inclusion in the teaching of natural sciences and biology. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with textbooks of natural history and biology in relation to the issue, the characteristics of the mushroom kingdom (Fungi), their structure, systematic division and meaning. The content also includes an analysis of the issue of fungi (Fungi) in the FEP for basic education, in the FEP for grammar schools and in selected school educational programs. The following is an analysis of a textbook of natural history and biology from various publishers focusing on the topic of fungi (Fungi). The work also includes proposals for worksheets and practical exercises that will introduce students to the issue of mushrooms in an interesting way. The thesis contains an interview with eight teachers form practice about how they implement the teaching of this topic in their lessons. In the research part, I present the results of the analysis of science and biology textbooks in the form of text, tables and graphs. I also present the results of interviews with teachers from primary schools and higher grammar schools in the form of text and tables. Analysis of school education programmes of natural science for lower secondary education

8 Abstract About fifteen years ago, the Czech education system underwent a curricular reform. Thanks to that, schools have gained more freedom, but also responsibility how education will look in their case. The implementation of the reform was accompanied by various expectations but also by misunderstandings and problems. A revision of Framework Education Programme (FEP) is now planned. At the moment, however, it is not yet clear what will be the subject or the goals of this revision. This work aims to examine the current situation in the field of natural science and to subject selected school educational programs (SEP) to quantitative analysis. SEPs are understood here as one of the possible indicators of how some ideas from the Framework Educational Programs for Lower Education were conceived and developed by teachers. The thesis focuses mainly on areas that have been newly accentuated by the curricular reform. These are topics of key competences, interconnection of subjects (either within cross-curricular topics or interdisciplinary links through selected curriculum) and last but not least the topic of methods and forms of teaching and work with the content itself. The Catalogue of Convenient Stands for Natural Scientific Observation in Opava District with the Application at the Elementary School

This diploma thesis serves as a foundation and guide for the pedagogical staff members to improve the teaching of natural science in the field at the first level of elementary schools in the district of Opava. The main aim and output of the thesis was to create a source material for teachers and their practice in preparing of the natural science excursions and walks in the terrain. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part deals with the description of the natural phenomenon of the district. It captures the specifics of the area and its landscape potential, it also includes an overview of didactic methods of teaching with use for scientific observation. The most important part consists of a catalog of stations suitable for nature walks and excursions, which should facilitate the search of accessible areas. Each catalog station has a thematic focus, its location and accessibility, brief characteristics and key terms are described. The aim of this paper is to find out the actual placement of the topic Fungi in the education on the primary level of the elementary school and to inspire teachers to use the great variety of this kingdom, for example by implementing the mould, yeast cells or wood-destroying fungi into their curriculum. Practical use of Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science Charles University in Prague for Education of Lower Grades of Primary School

The theme of this diploma thesis is Practical use of the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague for Education of Lower Grades of Primary Schools. The main purpose is to chart current status of a theme of botanical garden in curricular documents, namely The Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and School Educational Programmes of chosen elementary schools located in Prague 2. Further, the presence of this theme is explored in the sample of schoolbooks for the 4th and the 5th grades of elementary schools. There is a questionnaire survey realized among teachers of the 4th and the 5th grades in the schools listed above. The aim is to find out, how much the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague is used for practical education. The results are shown in charts and graphs. The readiness of this botanical garden for practical education of lower grades pupils is found out by an interview with its vice-director. The next part of thesis contains planning and realizing a lesson with the 5th grade pupils. The lesson demonstrates a possibility of more frequent practical education in the botanical garden. 4 The Abstrakt: The main target of the thesis is to complete and check the materials of inquiry- based education on the topic of 'water in human life'. This thesis has been based on the ESTABLISH project and it is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of inquiry-based education, its benefits and history. It introduces us to the national and foreign project and works that treat this type of education. The main passage of the thesis deals with the compilation and verification of materials for the inquiry-based activities within the thematic unit of 'water in human life'. Part of the materials is methodical handbook for teachers and worksheets for individual activities. Further on this thesis includes the results of a questionnaire for students. The feedback reflected verification of the activities and course of materials content and suitability assessment. Consequently, the thesis also includes the application of the questionnaire for educators which evaluated the awareness of the inquiry-based education and its existing usage by biology teacher on Prague grammar schools. Práce analyzuje její vývoj v České republice a popisuje situaci ve vybraných zahraničních zemích (Norsko, Švédsko, Dánsko, Francie, Velká Británie, Německo, Polsko, Itálie, Bulharsko, Chorvatsko, Švýcarsko, Nizozemí, Japonsko, Indie, Keňa, Mexiko). Zabývá se implementací sexuální výchovy do vzdělávacích programu: Základní škola, Obecná škola, Národní škola a do rámcového vzdělávacího programu a analyzuje "Doporučení MŠMT CR k výuce sexuální výchovy". Praktickou část představuje výzkum, který je zaměřen na výuku, metody a zkušenosti učitelů sexuální výchovy na 2. stupni základních škol.
Science knowledge of pupils at lower primary school

This diploma thesis verifies the knowledge of some specified science topics among pupils at lower primary school. The pupil´s knowledge was inquired by using their own drawings, and by a didactic test. The work mentions the analysis of science textbooks and workbooks that are used in schools as one of the knowledge sources of products of nature and animals. The results of the work are used to get the idea about the real extent of science education at lower primary school, and to find out what knowledge of this field the pupils actually have these days.
