Leisure Time of Roma Children and Youth at Prague 3

PhDr. Monika Nová, Ph.D. MPH The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis describes leisure time - the history of leisure time, functions and leisure time of children and youth. It also describes the Roma community, the history of Roma in the Czech Republic and the topic of integration, segregation, discrimination and social exclusion of Romani people. It also focuses on Roma children and youth and their leisure time. The theoretical part concludes with a list of institutions working with Roma children and youth in Prague 3. In the practical part, a quantitative method was used to collect data through a questionnaire survey. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to find out how Roma children and youth in Prague 3 spend their leisure time.

Support of the education of socially disadvantaged Roma pupils in a selected primary school

This thesis focuses on the issue of support strategies used for socially disadvantaged Romani pupils in a selected primary school. In the theoretical part, it defines the basic concept of social disadvantage, the term socially disadvantaged pupil, and the reasons for educational failure due to social disadvantage. It introduces the fundamental manifestations of social disadvantage and the barriers it creates in the educational process. The thesis further specifies the issue of the Romani ethnicity, provides a brief history of the Roma people, describes the specifics of Romani families, the upbringing of children, and the position of individual family members. It then addresses the issue of Roma education and the support system. In the context of the thesis topic, it describes the support strategies used in the education of socially disadvantaged Romani pupils. The aim of the practical part was to find out how support for the education of social disadvantaged Romani pupils is implemented in a selected primary school. Using a semi- structured interview method, it was determined which support mechanisms the school uses and with what effect, as well as which support options are not used and why. Employment of Roma in the labor market in the Týn nad Vltavou region from the perspective of employers

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of placement of members of the Roma minority in the labor market in the Týn nad Vltavou region from the perspective of employers. The aim of this work is to analyze the issue of employment Roma from the perspective of employers in the region of Týn nad Vltavou. At work I set two research questions. My research questions are: "What is the employer's opinion on the employment of Roma" and "What is the employer's experience with employment of the Roma". A qualitative research strategy and technique of a semi - structured interview were used in the research part. The research took place in the Týn nad Vltavou region, where the interviews took place with 7 respondents. The interviews were rewritten and then encoded. Research results show that from the perspective of the employers in the Týn nad Vltavou region, most of them have experience with a Roma minority in employment. Furthermore, it was found that employers think that Roma on the labor market have the same possibilities at work as others. In the next topic it became clear that the informants think that the Roma have the same possibilities as the others in all terms. Out of prejudice that causes unemployment to Roma, employers think this claim is true. The last topic discussed resulted in the conclusion that employers are of the opinion that the involvement of a Roma minority in a team at work would be trouble - free. The benefit of this work is that it can serve as a better insight into this issue. It can be used as aid for the Labor Office in Týn nad Vltavou regarding this topic.

Without a trace

Without a trace explores the possibilities of working with the so-called memory of landscape, which I understand as a certain open, ongoing and changing composition of narratives, motifs, people and objects of different origins and different natures. These components and sources of memory all relate to the period of World War II and in particular to the theme of anti-fascist partisan resistance. The resulting intermedia work was preceded by field research, during which I gathered a wealth of material on the subject that led me to create a kind of alternative cartography. The map and the educational trail through the landscape of Vysočina, supported by text in the form of an audioguide, are the formats of the resulting work and an attempt to break away from the great simplistic narratives of war, partisans and resistance. They focus on the small stories of the actors of the resistance, not only Czech and Soviet partisans and refugees, but also local residents. The resulting format guides the user through the physical landscape and connects it to different interpretations of its history. My own version of the landscape memory is admittedly also influenced by my personal experiences from my childhood in Vysočina.

The issue of foster care with Roma children from the perspective of experience from Strakonice

The bachelor thesis consists of 3 chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the Roma, their culture and customs, family relationships and their history. The second chapter is about foster care, how we divide it, about the work of a social worker and work with Roma families and children. And the third chapter is dedicated to the organization Prevent, specifically the Center for Foster Families and whether work with Roma families is different. This chapter also contains interviews with workers from the Center for Foster Families. It was ascertained how many Roma families the workers have, whether working with them is different, and if so, how. What kind of work does an employee do at the Center and how was the Center affected by the change in the law. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to find out in the organization Prevent 99 z. ú. in Strakonice how foster care with Roma currently works and what is the role of the social worker.

Comparison of national public policies of Roma integration in Central Europe

The societies of most European countries, especially those in Central Europe, are plagued by a high incidence of social and civic exclusion of Roma. The living situation of a significant part of the Roma community is a long-standing human rights challenge for modern welfare states. Since the collapse of the bipolar world, with the flowering of liberal values of equality, it has been assumed that Roma would be relatively swiftly integrated into mainstream society and that unjustified disparities in access to public services would be eliminated. Over the last thirty years, all states affected by significant levels of exclusion of the Roma minority have attempted to address this sensitive issue through a wide range of policies, but without any relevant and lasting impact. The present thesis examines national public policies in the field of Roma minority inclusion in Slovakia, Poland, and Czech Republic and Hungary in the current period. The main objective of the thesis is to compare the national integration policies of selected Central European countries by applying Actor-centred Institutionalism Theory and the A-A-A Model. Situated at the intersections of reproduction, population politics, health care services, and marginality in Central Europe, this dissertation explores the diverse ways Romani women living in precarious circumstances demonstrate reproductive agency. In particular, it examines the ways their agency critically engages with the discourse of responsibilization (Rose 1996, 2007) on the affective and social levels in a context ruled by a moral regime that calls for reproductive governance (Morgan & Roberts, 2012, 2019). Discussion and analysis are based on long- term participant observation in a segregated Romani settlement in Slovakia, as well as a short- term observation of staff and patients at a maternity ward in the Czech Republic. The ethnographic methodology and analysis are inspired by critical medical anthropology and the anthropology of reproduction. Building on this mixed-method approach, the analysis focuses on the individual, communal, and societal aspects of reproductive decision-making. It discloses the significant material and moral constraints surrounding women's reproductive decisions and it shows that marginalized Roma women both revere and refuse the discourses of self- governance, responsibility, and accountability in their reproductive practices. The Long Road to Dignified Status: The Contribution of Applied Ethics to the Research of the Roma Holocaust Eighty Years After the Events

This dissertation is based on three case studies of selected families of the original Romani inhabitants of the Czech Republic who were affected by the Roma Holocaust. It contributes to the detection of ethically sensitive aspects in the background of the coexistence of Roma with non-Roma environments in the Czech lands and at the same time to capture the risks associated with this research. The main tool of thinking is the concept of human dignity. The work pursues the two following main goals. Firstly, through historical-genealogical research, the project resulted in the reconstruction of the history of these families since their arrival in the territory of Moravia, through the process of their settlement and the gradual transformation of their ways of life, especially in the interwar period. The research easily maps the post-war period as well. Despite their gradual involvement in the life of society, there is a visible continuity in viewing these families from the point of view of local and central authorities as "gypsies" - their secondary status. The central period, which is more elaborately discussed, is the Second World War, the work is focused on the impact of the Roma Holocaust on these three families, and subsequently the efforts of the survivors to cope with the war traumas are mapped....
