Then, we specify the most important characteristics of transnational corporations from developing countries, we identify major incentives and strategies of their integration into the global competition, we also devote our attention to measurement of degree of their integration into the global economy and evaluate their main competitive advantages and disadvantages. In the analytical part of the work we use quantitative analysis in order to find the differences between transnational corporations from developing countries and their counterparts from developed countries in the transnationality index, diversification of industry and industrial sector in which these companies operate. The last part is focused on a case study of an Indian transnational conglomerate Tata Group. On this example we show the practical aspects of integration of transnational corporations from developing countries into the global economy.
Rational Irrationality in the USA
Kleňha, Jan ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
In this thesis, the theory of rational irrationality is used to explore the incentives behind seemingly irrational beliefs held by a large part of the contemporary American society towards anthropogenic climate change. Applying causal analysis, three questions are answered: "is it rationally irrational for people to be indifferent towards climate change?" "Are Americans inherently more likely than others to hold irrational beliefs about global issues such as climate change?" If so, "is this phenomenon rooted in certain values that constitute the American identity?" The author focuses on specific "American values" and uses statistics and recent empirical studies to find correlations and causality between those values and the exhibited behavior of individuals, while discussing its possible causes and implications. The study concludes that the root cause of irresponsibility of the American citizen towards climate change is a lack of social mechanisms rewarding individuals for holding epistemologically accurate beliefs. The author then proposes a set of general measures to be prioritized in order to improve social reward mechanisms in the American society. If implemented, those measures should be able to effectively enforce epistemic rationality in the U.S. political debate, which is desirable...
The Impact of Incentives on Electric Vehicle Sales in the European Union
Tláskalová, Andrea ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Havránková, Zuzana (referee)
This thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of electric vehicle incentives and investigates their impact on the uptake of electric vehicles within and beyond the European Union over the period of 2010 to 2019. Depending on the kind of benefit they provide and their timing, the incentives are divided into one-time monetary, recurring monetary, and non-monetary incentives. To properly evaluate the effect of incentives, a fixed effects and difference-in-differences methods are employed, allowing us to control for unobserved factors affecting the electric vehicle market. A fixed effects analysis revealed a significant positive effect of one-time monetary incentives on battery electric vehicle sales, and a significant positive effect of both one-time and recurring monetary incentives on plug-in hybrid electric vehicle sales. Additionally, when considering the effect of individual incentives, the most important ones were found to be rebate and point-of-sale tax incentive. A difference-in-differences analysis confirmed a statistically significant effect of rebate on the sale of battery electric vehicles. Do National Hockey League Players Perform Better During Their Contract Years?
Liehman, Jan ; Opatrný, Matěj (advisor) ; Janhuba, Radek (referee)
This thesis analyses the validity of the contract year phenomenon in the Na- tional Hockey League (NHL). This notion, that players increase their perfor- mance in the final year of their contract, has been supported by previous find- ings in baseball and basketball, but ice hockey has been largely overlooked thus far. This thesis further extends the analysis to the second-to-last year on players' contract and distinguishes between unrestricted and restricted free agents. Rigorous analysis of the NHL contract structure is employed to elimi- nate contract states that would bias the results. By using a within-player fixed effects model in combination with advanced performance metrics, it arrives at an unexpected conclusion that upcoming unrestricted free agents improve their performance in the second-to-last year of their contract, but there is not enough evidence to suggest that they improve in the final one. No performance increase was found for upcoming restricted free agents during the final two years of their contract.
